I think even in back 2012 an argument could be made quite easily, but it’s a shame Roger Ebert didn’t live long enough to see some of the games released over the past decade that quite convincingly demonstrate how video games can indeed be art.
I agreed with him very often but that was one instance of him having an inexplicably bad take.
GAMERS ON THE WELL MANNERED PUPPY-GIRL ALPHA CHAD FEDERATED REDDIT ALTERNATIVE WHEN YOU BEG THEM NOT TO BE TOXIC TO THE DEVELOPER (THEY WILL DEFUSE THEIR SHITTINESS/THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY OR TAKE A TIRED DEVELOPER’S PLEAS GRACEFULLY)
GROW UP fuckers. The game sucks, I’ve played it. I’ve also been playing increasinly bad Dragon Age games long enough to know ITS EA, ITS ALWAYS BEEN EA. Everything they touch turns to shit. Veilguard was a live service team-based wave survival game like ME3 multiplayer until eight months before launch and you can reeeaaally tell.
I don’t give a fuck about blue haired devs, pronouns, none of that shit. If you do, grow up. Yes, Bioware is a skeleton crew with hack writers and a captain hired to go down with the ship and get the game out the door… BECAUSE OF EA.
ARE YOU JUST NOW PLAYING VIDEO GAMES FOR THE FIRST TIME? DID YOU NOT KNOW ABOUT THE PUBLISHERS IN GENERAL?
Gamergate’s still fucking going on. Bitching about Anita Sarkeesian in 2025 in response to a dev begging to stop being harassed, PATHETIC.
When I played the first game, I eventually become a bit annoyed at how some systems worked, such as how frequently henry became hungry, so I downloaded a mod that extended the time between meals, which made the experience a bit more realistic and less annoying.
Though on the topic of degrading equipment, I kinda like shoes wearing out of it’s not too frequent, because for some odd reason I find it enjoyable to have to plan trips around such limitations 😄

If you haven’t played it yet, you might really enjoy Death Stranding.
Ok guys valid points from everyone here. But who here has bought the latest 11bit Studios games? And I’m not talking about Frostpunk 2. I’m taking about Indika, The alters (not out yet, my bad) , The Traumathurge, Creatures of Ava ,… all of these games seemed like really cool things to me, sadly I could not afford them.
The Alters isn’t out yet. Expected release Q1 2025. It’s on my wish list because I love the demo.
Indika they were just the publisher. On top of which, maybe has a story that not everyone is interested in. I watched these guys play it, youtu.be/MuiHtAYOqgI and while it’s creative and it’s overall a fantastic game, is not one I’m going to play myself.
The Thaumaturge, again they are just the publisher. I hadn’t even heard of this one which means as the publisher they did a terrible job marketing it.
Thank you for the correction. The alters is indeed not out yet.
In my opinion for the other I doesn’t matter whether they are just publishing or actually developing. The games are not bar but apparently don’t sell well. Maybe their not the greatest at marketing but I enjoy the vibes they are going for
Boy those are some memories! My comment was actually just a cheeky response to “you do you” - which always triggers me for some reason. I can understand the douchevotes it’s getting lol.
They tried too hard to be a CoD/Siege clone without offering anything new. I'm surprised it ever launched in the first place.
It really feels like somebody at Ubisoft is intentionally trying to tank the whole company or something lately. They used to be such a competent studio, so much so that it's hard to believe that these major failures as of late are an accident.
In the DLC, it’s still open world and extremely flexible in how you explore it, but there’s less wasted space.
It’s very tightly knit and the pacing is better as a result.
It’s like Elden Ring was watching masters of their craft cut their teeth on something new, and then the DLC was them applying everything they learned in that process.
Can’t wait for their next game in that same vein (especially not held back by last gen consoles).
“Remembering Prey”? The game is 7 years old, and has a release on current gen consoles. The nostalgia cycle is starting to spiral in on itself. Get ready for “Remember Baldurs Gate 3” next month.
If we want to talk about a game that is about ready for a nostalgic revival, featured unique gameplay for the time, told a story with interesting lore, and had the potential for interesting sequels, let’s remember Prey (2006). Also, it had a bus full of evil ghost kids on a spaceship. Can’t beat that.
Prey is barely functional on modern systems. They never had a PS5 update and it barely hits 30fps there. The PC version is quite buggy and crashes for many.
I try to replay it every once in a while and just give up. It’s unfortunate.
