I was thinking about this in another thread where someone made this joke: With how much stuff Valve does outside of gaming, are we sure they have never done a 3rd iteration of something before? Like, they do business stuff too and are into a ton of random tech related things like BCIs. We only ever really hear about the game related stuff, tho. Or possibly when Gabe gets a new boat since they interview him on it.

The only thing ever called a Steam Machine before was the PC architecture they tried to push over a decade ago that was more or less just cheaper PCs of various builds that all ran on the original SteamOS. None of them were made or sold by Valve itself.

The only other steam hardware that was cancelled was the Link; because you can do what it did through an app without the need for specialized hardware now.

Okay what the hell is up with the Frame?

It says it is a stand alone headset and doesn’t need a PC… Right before it goes on to say it’s meant to be used with a PC but wirelessly. Is it stand alone or not? If I have Beat Saber in my library, do I have to stream it from an actual dedicated PC or can it run straight off the headset like I can with a Quest?

I hope the Frame is as cheap or cheaper than a Meta Quest 3. It’s almost identical in the specs, but goes back to monochrome external cameras instead of full color. But also has eye tracking which the Q3 does not. I want eye tracking so fucking bad… I set up cameras for it before I was like “Hold up… They can’t see my eyes with the headset on 😬” lol

I could have had one and didn’t get it because I never really go anywhere other than work. But boy did I regret it when I was at BLFC recently. My hotel roommates all had one and were playing Helldivers and Rocket League every night 😩

I could have brought my Quest… But I don’t have anything for the stand alone system; all my VR games are on Steam.

I’ve been under the impression that it is very likely to be a sequel to Alyx. Possibly a launch title for the Frame.

But I don’t think any of the rumors expected a new Steam Machine. We thought it was gonna be a new Deck.

They have done some pretty questionable advertising by manufacturing controversies in the past for previous GTA games.

World has everything 3 introduced and more with better visuals. So SMW is the right answer.

Really it comes down to level design. And IMO, the secret star road levels are some of the best even counting later games. Tubular! Gnarly! Radical!

Friend of mine in high school was super into Star Wars Galaxy. Was pretty much all he did after school at the time. One day he got into an argument with his guild leader or some other member with thw power to remove him, and they kicked him from the guild. This pissed him off enough that he recruited another friend of ours to infiltrate the guild and then spent the next month or so getting to a position of power within it so they could re-add the original friend and kick everyone else out while also draining the guild coffers. Effectively destroying the entire guild.

Compared to Dishonored, Prey lacks all the movement. But I wouldn’t have compared it to Dishonored anyway; It’s more like System Shock 2 and is pretty good compared to that.

The new Silent Hill 2.

The use of DLSS makes it look like a fugly, smudged mess unless you’re totally motionless. The combat is inconsistent; hit a monster, it gets stunned but then jankily cancels the stun animation to grab you or attack through your attack so it hits you but you don’t hit it.

Not sure what is better than the original other than the graphics when standing still. Even the voice acting is the same not good delivery as the OG, despite having been re-done.

If you already have a BT controller (like any modern console’s controllers) you could just get a thing that lets you attach the phone to that controller. That’s what I did. They can be purchased for cheap, or printed yourself if you have a 3D printer.

1. HD2 is not an extraction shooter.
2. It does have MTX in the form of SUPER CREDITS and the stuff you can only buy with SC… You just can also earn SC for free if you grind hard enough.

If it’s one of the oldest ones, I assume it’s for Java, which means it’s entirely run by the server operator and not one of those shitty 3rd party hosted servers you can rent out from within Bedrock.

I don’t remember ever seeing anything about how you need to run a server of your own in compliance with Mojang’s rules in the EULA or TOS.

The funniest thing I saw in Stardew recently, was that I have installed the Anthro characters mod and it’w really good at making everyone except some kind of anthro, even their dialogue portraits… But in one of the relationship sequences, it flashes dialogue portraits of various characters and in that once scene they were not altered by the mod, so there’s all these “random” ghost humans showing up.

I laugh a lot during games. Though, most often, it’s from some unintended consequence or bug or just game physics being game physics (like a ragdoll spazzing out cuz it’s stuck in something).

That’s pretty much been the landscape of major commercial gaming since I’ve been alive. Just replace Fortnite and Overwatch with the current popular game. Doom, Diablo, Minecraft, etc.

The MOBA genre as we know it today simply took Warcraft 3 and tweaked the gameplay a bit with the original DOTA mod. But then stuff started ripping it off and we got League of Legends which, from what I could tell when these were rerelatively new, was the same thing as Dota but with different characters.

Palworld gets a lot of attention for duplicating some elements of Pokemon, but the whole game is basically a reskinned Ark, which itself is just Rust with more gimmicks.

The BR genre started as an Arma mod, then became a stand alone game, which Fortnite shifted gears from some kind of PvE game to add the BR that is dominating now, and everyone is trying to copy that. As a 40 year old gamer, it really is starting to feel like there is nothing new under the sun.

All they did was make it an option in the controls like in 3 instead of always being on. You can definitely still dead-angle in DS:R if you turn it on. Or just don’t use lock-on.

I hate this shit, and it really sucks because I like competitive games, and all the competitive games made since, like, 2015 have been loaded with FOMO MTX bullshit which the devs exckusively focus on while balance and bug fixes get tossed to the way side. They are banking on players having more fun spending money than actually playing a fun game.
