Kojima is talking about Death Stranding. Miyazaki is talking about one of the Dark Souls games. Itagaki is known for the early 2000s Ninja Gaidens and Dead or Alive, so I'm pretty sure this would have been in reference to Ninja Gaiden.

It sadly happens in single player games too... People complain loudly that parts are too hard, then the devs put out nerfs in response.
A significant number of legendary bosses from the arcade and cartridge era are probably only famous because they were dialed up too hard and couldn't be tweaked after release, and I think it's more memorable that way.
Yeah, I can be pretty frugal with game purchases and will often wait for sales, but this one I didn't even have to think about. They're going to sell a bazillion copies at this price.
The analogy makes a lot of sense to me. Once you have an "easy button", it's hard to not use it. It's sort of like when you're at work and see the "quick workaround" effectively become the standard process....
Soulslikes are great if you're looking to scratch an itch for mechanical mastery, discovery, exploration, etc., but stories are not their strong suit. I'm not saying the stories are bad, just the delivery of them, unless you're the type of player who wants to play detective.
