@Kolanaki@pawb.social

I’m just a weird, furry, pan guy (cis he/him). I also have a big, blue username.

Currently on Earth for 8 years ensuring steps to unite humanity and usher us into the galactic civilization just so I can see my boyfriend again.

Lance is the best! But it’s also one of the hardest to use effectively.

Look up the actual combos, because most of the games I’ve played in the series do not tell you every single combo you can do in game, and some of them are extremely helpful. Especially with the lance.

The Dwarf Fortress community has been doing this exact thing for years now. IIRC, Boatmurdered was also one of these where the save was being passed between multiple folks.

What more do they need to do besides having Steam Link to let you stream your PC games to your phone?

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

It hasnt needed a local connection for a while. I usually play Civilization over it when out of the house.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I don’t think it would be hard to fake these screenshots. Bethesda shadow dropping a game of this high profile within a week, without ever having officially said anything about it or even replying to media asking about it just seems incredibly unlikely.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Having been playing it again recently, it still has a lot of what Morrowind had, and Skyrim doesn’t. Plays like Skyrim, but still has more depth than it. Not a lot more, but still more.

I hella want to mod KCD2 to have magic spells and dragons. Though I do find it funny to say “It’s a great RPG based in reality. You get to do awesome quests like digging a ditch or herding sheep!”

Ecco the Dolphin. (Genesis)

Sid Meier’s Pirates! (PC)

Subnautica (PC)

Uncharted Waters: New Horizons (SNES)

I would really like something that is a modern Uncharted Waters or Pirates! game. They are both very similar games, and both are also quite old.

I have used a tool (not this one specifically) that could do this specifically for its other function of calculating the worth of all your steam trading cards/marketable game items, and to batch sell them when I have enough to get something with the cash.

The input emulation system in Steam is also heavily affected by accessibility needs. A part of the system that isn’t really seen or talked about is how it is used for many non-standard input devices made for people with physical disabilities.

Newell (himself, afaik not within Valve) is also currently researching BCIs, with making devices for disabled people the biggest thing those are being used for currently.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Is this like a remake/remaster of the OG 2033 or its own game?

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I wonder what this’ll do to the price of used physical copies

Probably nothing. The used prices aren’t necessarily reduced based on the retail price of the new copy, but by the supply vs the demand.

I can definitely hear the difference between my PC and my PS5.

My PC’s fans are way louder than my PS5.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

It’s literally the GPU’s (a 1660 Super) fan that’s loudest. I can’t change that out, afaik. The case fans are Noctuas and the CPU has a Corsair AIO liquid cooler.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I don’t have a desk job. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I also always end up taking a break in the suggested (or rather, the suggested manner back when video games straight up had warnings about playing too long in the manual/splash screens when starting them) when I am playing. Just stand up, walk to the kitchen/bathroom/whatever and look at something other than a screen for like 5-10 minutes every 45-minutes to an hour.

You should be able to do that at work, too. Just stand up, stretch, look at the ceiling/floor. You don’t even have to leave your cubicle/office.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

More new content? God damn, how many times am I supposed to play this game? They haven’t even dropped DLC yet!

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I forgot the name of it (Ex Machina? 🤔), but there is a top down diablo-like game with somewhat QWOPish controls and physics based combat. You control movement normally (assuming you’re standing), but you have to actually swing your sword around with the mouse and because it’s a top down view, this becomes a real challenge. It’s also presented as a soul like, so the AI is generally actually good at combat, and it’s also slow, and heavy feeling.

I don’t think it ever got finished, though. It was semi-popular for about a week before I never really saw it anymore.

Kolanaki,

Kinda why I’m not jumping to get a Steam Deck. I have a desktop, and I already know if I had the deck it would almost never get used outside my apartment anyway, since I’d never actually have time for it.

Now if I was still a kid with no responsibility and didn’t have to drive myself, it would be a different story. That story being I still wouldn’t have a deck because I wouldn’t have money and my parents wouldn’t buy it for me. 😩

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Put the onus on the retailer to limit how many units a single customer can purchase. Why would Nintendo give a single fuck about scalpers, anyway?

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Prototype was my jam back in the day, since I had Xbox and not a PS3 and couldn’t play Infamous.

Having played Infamous finally on PS5… Prototype is actually better anyway and it’s insane how it was overshadowed by Infamous to begin with.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I can’t even play JC4 because JC3 was just so good. Why the hell did they change the formula in 4? The missions are boring as hell in 4. They kept the “fight these guys,” “open these doors,” “release these prisoner” missions, but I have yet to be tasked with destroying, well, anything. 😮‍💨

The only thing in 4 I liked more than 3 was that the rocket things you can stick on stuff can be used multiple times and don’t automatically explode, so you can use them to fly a car without fear of blowing up.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Do any of them other than the first two (Wolf 3D and Spear of Destiny) actually have Hitler as a boss fight?

Shenmue

My thoughts exactly. Sure it was good; but influencial? I am trying to remember what, if anything, it even did that was novel for the time, let alone what’s been replicated from it that would show some influence it had.

Also: Baldur’s Gate 3 is so new, it’s hard to say it’s had any influence at all yet. I’m not even sure Larian has influenced much in the industry, and they have made a lot of public statements about the state of the industry since BG3 blew up.

Mice are cheap. Even Bluetooth ones, which wouldn’t need a dock or dongle to be used with the deck.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

They made Blood, didn’t they? I always think of Tron 2.0 first, and I don’t know if Monolith even did the game or if it just used the Lithtech Engine.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I don’t know how, I don’t know why… But no other game, even those inspired by and basically copying GTA, feels as good to move around in. Whether you’re on foot or in a vehicle, the GTA series just has this nice feel to it that I have only seen come close to being replicated with the very first Saint’s Row. And even it wasn’t as tight.

You can copy everything else, it seems, from the giant detailed cities, to the format of missions and the gunplay; but the driving always feels garbo compared to GTA.

Even without RTX scenery can look damn near real. But the moment there is a human in the scene, the uncanny valley fucks everything up. I don’t even get it because animals can look perfect and not trigger the uncanny valley effect, but humans always do. RTX won’t ever fix that.

BF bullets actually originates from your eyes. You’d think after 9 or 10 BF games they’d have made the bullets originate from the gun just to get rid of perceived “head glitching.” Even if it’s not truly head glitching, you can still shoot a motherfucker who can’t even see more than 2 pixels of of your head peeking over a low obstacle, let alone hit you.

This got me thinking about Computer Gaming World and how, even if they came back, it probably wouldn’t be the same since they likely would not have any of the same reviewers, editors, etc.

Used to love CGW. One of the few review publications I’ve ever read that actually managed to be objective and not just be based on subjective feelings. Like, I remember one for an RTS and the review author opened by stating they are not personally a fan of RTS games and yet still gave the game a fair (and high scoring) review for its presentation, systems, lack of interfering bugs, etc.

What are some old games that are hard to revisit, because a more modern and superior version exists? angielski

I tried playing Harvest Moon on the SNES today and having played Stardew Valley for hours, I thought I'd try and see how tolerable the original Harvest Moon was in comparison. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is basically worthless if you have Dark Souls: Remastered.

60fps, better graphics, better performance, QOL enhancements, and even better multiplayer features (up to 6 total players instead of 4, just like DS3).

Probably true of most remasters/remakes, outside of speed running. I do know that PTDE is still a popular version to speedrun due to certain glitches that aren’t present in Remastered.

Best game ever? angielski

Yeah pacman and pong were seminal but so was elite on the BBC, and Populous which I think was on the spectrum. Also unreal tournament, silent hill, vice city, homeworld, doom 2016, beam ng, I enjoyed em all but I can’t decide. Ppl here have done much more gaming than me, I’m wondering what you all think is the best game...

Somewhere between Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress lies the perfect life simulation.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I finally managed to invade someone and it happened to be just outside the clinic at the start of my NG+ cycle. My HP was lowered so much, and I did so much damage to the dude while he did basically nothing to me.

I thought BB had the same level/upgrade stuff as the other games? I felt like I just stomped a level 1 character of a player who has never played before 🤣

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

It’s puzzling how stupid of a decision it is leaving it at 30 FPS even on PS5.

It’s literally the same exact game, the system just has backwards compatibility. They never updated it to be faster, and it’s not exactly an easy fix either since the entire animation system is based on the frame rate. You at least don’t see it drop lower than 30 anywhere on a PS5.

DS1 didn’t get native 60fps until the remaster, and the mods that allowed it to go that fast would introduce a bunch of bugs.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I’m surprised to find it’s not already on Steam.

You’re Winner!

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Big Rigs is literally the only video game in existence I can think of that has the same “B movie” qualia about it. It’s so bad, it’s actually funny to play because of just how insanely bad and broken it is. I mean, what other game can you accelerate to literal infinity and beyond by simply driving backwards?

If they actually remastered it and made it a good game, it would actually suck more than the unique experience the terrible original offers.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Nope. VR exclusive.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

The “other reasons” people aren’t buying affordable VR setups is because they don’t trust Meta or their privacy policies. If the new Valve headset was $300-500 it would go a long way. But $1200 isn’t it.

Kolanaki,

Have you used any other VR headset? I ask just cuz I wanna know how the PSVR2 compares to other headsets.
