They already added a subscription.

Up front cost cannot cover the ongoing API costs they must be paying for Google Maps. So either this has to be free and just a front end for the same shit, or they’ll still end up net negative.

Mumblings originally in 2017, job openings at the studio in 2018, officially announced in 2020. October 2022 Andrew Walsh, a senior writer from the Horizon Forbidden West team joined the Fable team. June of 2023 had an in-game trailer.

To be honest, that seems to be a reasonable timeframe, especially given the pandemic in the middle, if you aren’t following the “rush it out the door ASAP, fix it after release, if you ever do” approach.

We all know he would have been a forever incel without his daddy’s money. So it tracks perfectly.

Onimusha was such a good series. Happy to see it being remastered.

Capcom is always a toss up with whether they care about any given IP anymore.

    Not really here, this would have been a dummy weight either way since it was the test payload for Falcon Heavy. So *something *was going to be sent up. The Tesla specifically was a publicity stunt, but a similar weight was going into a similar orbit.

    The bigger question is why they lost tracking on it in the first place to where they weren’t sure what it was. This wasn’t from any sort of failure, this was a planned and fully successful launch payload into a planned orbit.

    SpaceX rockets don’t add Methane to the atmosphere. When you burn something, you’re not adding that thing to the atmosphere, you’re adding byproducts from the combustion, and Methane isn’t one of the byproducts of any rocket fuel.

    Starship uses methane as a fuel, but that’s not at all the same thing. Methalox engines are one of the cleanest burning rocket fuels after Hydrolox. When burnt, methane just becomes CO2 and water vapor along with a bit of NOx (Nitrous Oxide, aka laughing gas, aka that boost you see in Fast and the Furious) as well.

    Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy are Kerolox (Kerosene, RP-1) engines. RP-1 is basically just a highly refined kerosene. When burnt, it will produce CO2, water vapor, NOx, carbon soot, carbon monoxide (which again mostly becomes CO2) and a little bit of sulfur compounds. The exhaust is nasty but it is not that different from what a normal internal combustion car produces. And even with the large amounts, it is still lower than what cars/trucks/SUVs output to get everyone in your city back and forth to work, the grocery store, and home on a daily basis.

    Better fine the US government or NASA for all the Saturn V upper stages that are floating around up there as well. Nearly every Saturn V third stage was sent into an orbit around the sun after the Lunar injection maneuver, they’re all still up there. In fact, they lose track of those and “rediscover” them all the time because. The three-body problem is not fully solvable with our current technology, and the further out you get from initial conditions the less accurate calculations become.

    The point is that it’s nowhere near Earth to cause an issue like Kessler Syndrome, which the space junk comment is clearly referring to.

    The car is space junk like every other test payload or probe we’ve ever sent out into space that we’ve lost contact with is space junk.

    This entire thread is filled with people that know absolutely nothing about Space but the basics modern “media” poorly conveys, but feel the need to comment and display their ignorance proudly just because they hate Musk. It’s quite sad actually for an actual Astronomy community, there’s worse discussion in here than reddit.

    Yeah. You might want to look into some other foreign owned companies as well. Tencent owns a metric shit ton of “American” companies for instance, I bet there’s several on that list that would surprise you.

    halcyoncmdr,
    @halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world avatar

    Tencent happen to own large portions of nearly every video game company on the planet to start with, and a ton of other large companies, 600+ of them in fact. Large enough positions to directly affect board decisions if they wanted to. And that assumes overt sudden changes and not more subtle things.

    Gacha is a type of loot box.

    You aren’t purchasing a specific item when you spend money. If there’s any sort of chance involved with that purchase it’s a loot box.

    halcyoncmdr,
    @halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world avatar

    As a person that have played Genshin since the launch. Those are all loot boxes. Just because it’s limited or has a pity system, that doesn’t change the fact. It just limits the results or gives you a guarantee

    If you are taking a chance at all to get something from a list of items, as opposed to selecting a specific item to buy, IT IS A LOOT BOX.

    The specifics of limits or pity systems, or guarantees after X amount do not matter. The slot machines in Vegas have a fixed and regulated chance to payout as well, it’s still gambling.

    halcyoncmdr,

    I’d say it’s more on how the developers setup their system to utilize (or not utilize) those dynamic capabilities.

    The game devs not taking advantage of that properly should be on them. Put the blame where it belongs.Don’t let the devs off the hook just because you want to at least partially blame the MS cloud. Microsoft’s systems CAN handle dynamic loads when setup properly, we see it all the time.

    halcyoncmdr,
    @halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world avatar

    There is a nearly zero percent chance that the game developers are also cloud experts. Having the same parent company means almost nothing, especially when you get to the size of places like Microsoft. The internal bureaucracy can actually make getting things accomplished properly worse. External contracts are usually pretty clear on what’s provided for the payment. Internal processes are often much more blurry, if not completely muddy.

    Not to mention that the formatting is so bad that the client requires you to basically be in fullscreen but you’ve still gotta scroll a mile down to get any info.

    For Xbox, that’s because the PC app is literally copy/pasted from the Xbox console app. Hell, it probably is the same universal app since that was a big Microsoft push to have more apps available on the consoles and Windows Phone.

    The worst part is when they DO have a weight. I’ll drop a decent weapon or shield in exchange for that 300th medpack. Never know when you’ll come across a boss enemy that I have built my character very poorly against and just decimates me. Which never happens. But it could. Gotta be prepared.

    halcyoncmdr,
    @halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world avatar

    I can go with that. With one exception, bullet sponge enemies. If I headshot a guy without a helmet, he needs to die. I don’t care what the level difference is. If bullets just do a set amount of damage, and it starts taking a full magazine from a rifle in the head to kill someone, then I better be getting PLENTY of ammo and it better not weigh a damned thing.

    I only remember it taking so long to come out it became an early meme, and then finally coming out as a wet fart after all those years.

    To be honest, it wasn’t bad, for a Duke Nukem game. The issue is that the Duke Nukem style just wasn’t good compared to modern games anymore. It was a late 90s game released in 2011. It also didn’t go all in on the campiness either so it couldn’t even cross into that territory and wrap back around to being good.

    Not a Doc watcher, not a big fan, but the Internet’s hard-on for taking claims at face value even without any actual evidence pisses me off. Public opinion doesn’t require innocence until proven guilty, but it’s a good idea. There have been enough situations of people lying about shit for some personal gain, especially lately.

    I have only seen one situation that seems to match ALL of the claims from the hearsay on the Twitch side, because NONE of the people tweeting are first hand sources (they are repeating what they’ve heard from others), that matches Doc’s comments about it, AND the fact that there were no criminal charges filed (these are public record). Because otherwise if it is true at face value, that means Twitch actively helped cover up the fact a streamer was messaging minors like that, AND paid the the contract price as if THEY violated the contract, which certainly has a morality clause in it that Doc would have clearly violated if that were true.

    1. Doc was exchanging messages with a user via Twitch Whispers.
    2. Twitch thought this user was a minor through internal information, like previous messages/chats, account info, etc. but not something another user would have access to.
    3. The conversation itself did NOT include information about whether the user was a minor.
    4. Doc would not have known that user was a minor, because it was not in the conversations.
    5. Twitch acts on the information they have, cancelling the contract under something like a morality clause.
    6. Doc would have no idea why he was suddenly permanently banned without any warning if they acted on this information without contacting him prior.
    7. Through the litigation it is determined that either the user was in fact NOT a minor, or they WERE but Doc would not have a way to know that based on the messages alone.
    8. That would mean Twitch, not Doc, had violated the contract by unilaterally cancelling it, and would need to pay it out, AND that there would be no criminal act to prosecute, hence no wrongdoing, even if he DID message a minor.
    9. Depending on the wording of the NDA for that settlement, he almost surely cannot talk about specifics, hence the vague legalese responses, because that’s the limit of what he’s allowed to say without Twitch also agreeing to release more info. That settlement likely leaves Doc’s ban in place in exchange for paying out the contract, Twitch not admitting anything, and Doc likely wouldn’t want to continue working with them after a reaction and contractual cancellation of that magnitude without even an attempt at contact.

    That would fit all of the “facts” as we have heard them from every party, without any criminal charges, with Doc getting paid, and Twitch officially silent. The largest red flag for the “he knew he was messaging a minor to meet up” is no prosecution at all, not even a paper arrest and charges later being dropped. There was never any public legal involvement, which indicates there was never an actual crime, which is what is being claimed.

    Also, Cody tweeted multiple times advertising his band’s show and stating if it sold out he’d talk more about it. So at that point, he basically loses all credibility as far as I’m concerned, not using it as marketing for his shows. Without hard evidence it not just looks like a way to try and boost his band’s sales while he knows everyone will be talking about him and looking him up.

    If Twitch helped to cover up a criminal act, they’d be opening themselves up to liability. Especially since they supposedly provide the product used for the communication AND apparently knew about it.

    The simpler answer is, the reality isn’t as simple as the tweet makes it out to be. Twitch may have thought/known the user was a minor based off internal-only information, like previous messages, account information, etc. not anything in the conversation with Doc. In that case Doc would not have known they were a minor, and thus his actions would not have been illegal, and it would not be a story at all if Twitch reached out to advise Doc that the user was a minor… instead Twitch acted unilaterally and essentially burned the contract in the process. That would fit the same “facts” we’ve been told from all parties, but with a vastly different context that also matches the lack of criminal liability.

    halcyoncmdr,
    @halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world avatar

    Not sure why you seem so personally invested

    There’s nothing personal, I just expect accusations like this to have real evidence. All the “evidence” we had through Twitter was hearsay, and we’ve all played telephone before. Hearsay is no different than gossip, and it quite often is incorrect, that’s why it’s not admissible in court. Sorry for actually wanting proof of egregious claims instead of just trusting a former employee, who already had questionable trustability, and who was using the publicity to promote their own shit. Not exactly a great source of accurate information.

    he admitted to it so a lot of this conjecture is moot. There’s links to his statement ITT.

    My post here was made around the same time his tweet was posted. In fact looking at the times, it was posted here the same minute of his last edit. So, no chance to have even seen reports about that response yet, nonetheless read it.

    Blood and Wine was exceptional. Much like Shadow of the Erdtree, there was enough content added that they could have almost justified releasing it as a full game. There are full games released today with less content than Blood and Wine brought to TW3.

    100% this is the way things should be handled. If we get rid of or hide mistakes of the past, they will simply be repeated as people forget.

    GTA 6’s Publisher Says Video Games Should Theoretically Be Priced At Dollars Per Hour (www.forbes.com)

    While Take-Two is riding high on their announcement that a GTA 6 trailer is coming, its CEO has some…interesting ideas on how much video games could cost, part of a contingent of executives that believe games are underpriced, given their cost, length or some combination of the two.

    halcyoncmdr,
    @halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world avatar

    That may be true for many, but I’m willing to bet most of those “hours” they count are for GTA Online. Have they ever mentioned what percentage of players play Online versus all sales? Because that is something many of us have never and will never touch so it isn’t included at all in my value consideration other than a negative for the company to focus on INSTEAD of additional single player content.

    If they want to turn GTA into an always online Game as a Service, that is their prerogative, but don’t try and hide it stuffed alongside a single player game they’ll ignore after release, and don’t be surprised when some people stop buying and playing when the only option is online multiplayer.

    halcyoncmdr,
    @halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world avatar

    Ah but see, that may only be due to GTA V actually having the development time and releasing as a single player game because Online wasn’t near being ready when the game launched. Now that Online is out and that’s where their focus has been, we will most likely see the base single player game quality suffer dramatically. Look at games like Call of Duty. They used to have phenomenal single player experiences, and now you’re lucky if you get something worth playing at all.

    It’s licensing terms. FIFA was asking for double its $150 million licensing fee to allow Electronic Arts to continue using its name.

    FIFA doubling the license cost is clearly bullshit. EA has decided that the FIFA brand in their game is not worth $300 Million, and the existing license requires them to discontinue sales once the license expires.

    Can’t really blame EA for saving $300 Million for something that doesn’t really matter, especially when it used to cost half that. This 100% is FIFA being greedy, as usual.
