Day 307 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games l've been playing

Today’s game is Super Market Together. I found it randomly on the Steam Store, saw it was multiplayer, and it was free so i figured “eh, why not blow an evening with a friend running a grocery store”. We intially called our store TwoBros, but we had a third friend join us so we were due for a rebrand:...

This seems a bit better than most [retail store type] simulator releases that look like cash grab asset flips (and are often quickly abandoned).

There are also two adventure Dune games. One from the early 90s (before any of the RTS games were released) and another one from the early 2000s.

There is a Tom Cruise mummy movie?

The first two mummy movies are OK. I saw them in the cinema as a kid. Not all that great movies, but entertaining. The Scorpion King spinoff was fine too. 3rd mummy was not very entertaining.

An AI upscaled version of the intro teaser of the second release of Simcity 3000; Simcity 3000 Unlimited (US), World (UK).

Based on the source TGQ video files from the GOG release of Simcity 3000 Unlimited.

I really got to try Daggerfall, some of the mods radically improve the coherence and depth of the open world.

For some reason, I really like the graphical style (probably nostalgia).

Agent_Karyo,
@Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world avatar

I agree. I love the style. But that being said, I have some younger family members (in their 20s) who are into gaming and they think this is some old school stuff that’s unappealing (they like modern RPGs).

This is an excellent point. An organisation the size of Sony is simply incapable of not attempting a live service hit as long as they have the resources to do so.

A smaller player can pursue a strategy where they gain profits from their (somewhat specialized) segement of the market. Sony lacks that flexibility due to their size.

Zarya does look very interesting.

Love for Sail is probably the pinnacle of the older LS releases.

Definitely worth checking out if the Leisure Suite Larry series seems appealing.

I never backed (I only back single player games on Kickstarter). Just wanted to share with others the saga of this 12 years in-development indie crowdfunded MMO.

I don’t think Jacobs is a scammer like Chris Roberts with Store Citizen, but you got to agree the 12 year history of CU does not inspire confidence.

I say this as someone who enjoyed Darkfall and can’t stand pure themepark MMOs. I tried to get into DAOC, but the UI/UX is simply too old school for someone who hasn’t played it back in the day.

As someone who doesn’t play on consoles, the first time I encountered Kingdom Hearts, I thought this was a satirical piece. As if the gaming site made up a fake game. Goofy, Donald Duck and the Final Fantasy fellow together sounded like a teen fanfic.

No disrespect intended. I am genuinely happy if KH brings entertainment to people. Just sharing my literal “first impression”.

@Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world avatar

I really like Gravity Bone, Atom Zombie Smasher and Thirty Flights of Loving.

I believe Jazzpunk is not made by Blendo Games. Cool experience if you are into these sort of games.

I really hope indie gamedevs start moving off Discord. Sometimes it’s the only source for finding help or reporting bugs.

Agent_Karyo,
@Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world avatar

It’s a comically bad experience.

I get it that it’s probably easier to setup a Discord server, than to run your own forum, but you can always get a managed solution or use reddit (I would prefer if Lemmy was used, but I am also realistic).

Agent_Karyo,
@Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world avatar

Agreed. Just at this point I think it’s fair to say that this policy is definitely not in effect.

Tried out the demo in late 2024. I really like the concept. It didn’t feel like all those "[retail store type] simulator] UE5 asset flips that are all over Steam. It has it’s own visual style and IMO has more refined core gameplay mechanics. Sure, some of the gamplay is similar (and can be very addicting), but you can see that thought was put into the gameplay mechanics.

If the 1st person store simulator concept seems intriguing, but you are looking for something beyond a quick UE5 asset flip, I would recommend to check this out.

I am surprised that it was released for free. I briefly interacted with the dev in late 2024 and I was under the impression that there would be a commercial release in 1H 2025.

Agent_Karyo,
@Agent_Karyo@lemmy.world avatar

I was wondering if this is the case due to the “first store label”, but I wasn’t abel to find a link to the Steam store page for the full game.

I guess I didn’t look well enough. :(

Fascinating business model.

rental sales of CDs

CDs? What would you rent CDs for? The only thing I can think of is music and win 9x games.
