If BG3 doesn’t win the game of the year, someone paid someone off, lol

MrGerrit,

If tears of the kingdom doesn’t win game of the year, then the show is rigged from the start, rofl.

Jk of course, I just like the conspiracy theories of these things.

Faydaikin,

I don’t know about Game Of The Year. But Zelda definitely deserves a few catagories under it’s belt.

My money is on BG3 for Goty. It addressed a ton of the complaints there had been circulating about modern games for the last 10 years.

MrGerrit,

I only played totk and wonder at the moment but I think every entry on the list would be justified to win it. With the amount of great games we had this year, it’s already impressive to be on the list.

Here’s to who ever you’re rooting for to win!

simple, do games w Final Fantasy XVI PC Version In 'Final Stages Of Optimization,' Expect A Demo Before Release

I was really excited for it before launch but now that the dust has settled I probably won’t buy it when it hits PC. The RPG mechanics are apparently really shallow and there’s a lot of fluff and sidequests that ruin the pacing. I kept seeing gameplay and I still can’t get over how tanky enemies are too, it looks like you’d wail on one enemy for 3 minutes until it gives out.

Hopefully they can pull a FF15 and fix most of the issues with the game in patches.

midori,

That’s just, like, your opinion, man.

aStonedSanta,

This made my day. Thanks. ☺️

Even_Adder,

If it’s three minutes for a boss, I think that’s reasonable. Do you have any examples you can show me? From what I’ve seen, the fights are pretty quick in this game.

gamermanh,
@gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The first Eikon fight (probably what you could describe as the end of the tutorial) took me almost 20 minutes to finish.

I was barely hit by her, I didn’t have to redo it, it just took fucking ages.

And yes, I was using my special abilities and not just spamming square. My wife was watching me play out of slexcitement and halfway through she literally said “oh my God why is her health bar that big this is so boring”

ETA: I feel that my skill as a gamer needs to be elaborated on for full effect. Not bragging, just saying:

I’ve beaten every Souls game more than once. I beat lies of P on my first playthrough with less than 30 deaths total. I’ve been playing third person action RPGs for 20 or so years now and this is the FIRST MAJOR RPG I’ve EVER played that felt this dumbed down and boring. I was trying to be hyped with Sokens amazing music blaring and the cool visuals and all, but the gameplay is boooooorrringg

Even_Adder,

Souls games are a whole different beast from this type of game. It doesn’t really prepare you for managing cooldowns and doing complex attack strings. They train you to be careful and win without taking big risks, which sounds like the strategy you executed. From what I can tell almost half of that fight is cutscenes, which isn’t ideal.

I will agree with you that the gameplay seems boring though. They could have done more. I’m told that it gets better when you unlock more moves and mechanics.

aStonedSanta,

I had this same thing happen with kingdom hearts 3. Even on hard. So god damn boring.

newthrowaway20,

it looks like you’d wail on one enemy for 3 minutes until it gives out.

Oh you’ll wail a lot longer than that in some cases. Some of the summon boss fights took like 30~45 mins of wailing. And yes. The RPG elements are non existent, and the side quests are incredibly shallow and boring. You are spot on. No status effects, no elemental affinities, absolutely minimal equipment and weapon systems which amount to basically making a single number go up. It was honestly embarrassing as far as gameplay goes.

sub_, (edited ) do gaming w Here Are The Nominees For The Game Awards 2023 - Game Informer

Dave the Diver shouldn’t be categorized as an indie game

Dave the Diver is developed by Mintrocket. Mintrocket is not an indie company, it is not acquired by Nexon, it’s actually a sub-brand / division by Nexon. It is a sub-division of a giant company.

There are many indie devs that rely on being nominated to Indie category awards, for exposure, for the ability to stay afloat in business. What Dave the Diver is doing, is to take over a slot that might be the make / break event for smaller indie companies.

Think about the reason why there are specialized bundles for indie games, why people retweet / share info for indie exposure.

  • If Ubisoft were to spin-off a sub division to make Child of Light, would we have labeled Child of Light as indie (not some weird AAA indie game)?
  • If ALDI came into United States and spun off smaller mom-and-pop / bodega looking shops to compete with local mom-and-pop stores, do you still consider this spinoff as a local shop that need local support?
  • If your government creates a grant to fund small local companies, and a giant MNC spun off its brand to compete for the grant, are we even still in this discussion?

Dave the Diver should be competing in other categories, just not in indies.

Also Nexon is scummy kinda like EA of Korea, shutting down games abruptly, fined for loot box exploitations, they have market cap of $17B.

Excerpt from an interview with the devs: www.gameple.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=207…

Q. There are questions as to whether ‘Dave the Diver’ was a success purely due to development. One indie developer said, “Is it true that Nexon is invading the indie market?” There are also voices saying: Please give your brief thoughts about it.

Jaeho Hwang: To put it simply, our game is not an indie game. Indie respects developers who work harder and with fewer resources than we do. There is a GJA indie game candidate from overseas. It seems that the definition seen overseas is a little different. Unlike receiving overwhelming support from Nexon, they gave us autonomy.

MJBrune,

While I agree at heart, the term indie sucks for this reason exactly. It fits the definition and most indie games you’d find wouldn’t actually fit the definition.

SomethingBurger,

If you’re in the EU, they have to correct your personal information. Threaten to report them to your local privacy authority if they don’t.

lemmyvore,

If they’re as incompetent as they sound they’d have to change it manually and assuming you could make them do that it would probably break something in the account. 😄 There’s no good way to do this if it was badly put together.

Cocodapuf,

Cocodapuf,

That’s probably a good thing. I generally put different information into every service. If you keep track of who you told what, you can use that information later. If you receive spam from somewhere random, but they use the name you gave Sony, you can say “oh so Sony sold my data to you…”

Dragster39,

No idea. Never played it, no idea when it came out, never cared for it. I don't think it was necessarily a straight cut from one to the other but a gradual transition through various changes with the game and the company. I'd hazard a guess that this transition began before Story Mode though, even if it wasn't as apparent at the time, as it is today.

Sanctus,
@Sanctus@lemmy.world avatar

Because Xbox and Windows are fully integrated. Most people gaming don’t have to have a separate account, just an Xbox username that you create once and it is attached to your Microsoft account. You’re right about EA making you download the worst launcher in existence, but this statement about security is bs. Its more about them controlling the psn accounts and not the steam ones.

redcalcium,

Steam is available in 237 countries, while PSN is only available in 69 countries. Some people are going to be locked out from the game they bought. E.g African players are going to be fucked.

FeelzGoodMan420,

Account creation fatigue. I’m personally not fond of creating a one-off account for every fucking game I play on steam. It’s enough already. EA account, ubisoft account, rockstar account, PSN account, xyz account, ugh. Every new account I create is just an additional attack vector for when all of these companies eventually get hacked. I get occasional emails about security breaches or unauthorized attempts for random ass accounts I created years ago, and it’s so frustrating. I don’t even have a playstation. It’s just so annoying. I’m sick of it. I don’t believe for a fucking second that Sony is requiring this for “security and safety.” Those fucks just want to inflate their user numbers for the shareholders and collect our data to sell to 3rd parties. I am so fucking sick of this shit already. I bought the game on steam. Just let me use my steam account only god dammit.

n3m37h,

Wwwwwaaaaaaaa

I don’t have Xbox or PlayStation and I still signed up. Just use a stupid throw away password. Ya know how many times people have tried to log into my twitch account and I ignored it because even if they did get the password it means absolute jack shit. If ya do use the acct to buy stuff, use a virtual credit card to make payments so its as easy as shutting down that CCD and opening a new one.

Be more pissed about the rootkit of a anti cheat that they use

FeelzGoodMan420,

Maybe be pissed about both?

SmoochyPit,

Same— my understanding is that there’s now no option to play without making one, which for some countries and territories is not even an option, making the game unplayable for them.

This makes sense, that’s kind of a shitty deal for them.

Rubric, do games w Is The PlayStation Portal Worth A Purchase? - GameInformer

I got mine today, and whilst the layout takes a small amount of time to get used to, I find it pretty intuitive and easy to use. Obviously it’s not for everyone, but as someone who regularly loses the battle for the TV, this is hands-down a great purchase for me. Otherwise I’d have to use my phone, which is annoying as I have to disconnect my controller and connect it to my phone, and the screen is too small, or my laptop which is a bit too cumbersome. The Portal hits the sweet spot for me, it may not be for everyone, but I’m part of that niche that will use it regularly.

EDIT: My other gripe is the lack of being able to play through the cloud - I hope this is something to be added in the future as it’s literally just a WiFi controller with a screen.

Appoxo,
@Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Literally the Wii U rehashed lol.
Still useful.

kryptonianCodeMonkey,

The problem with the Wii U wasn’t the concept. It was the execution. The idea of a portable handheld console is a sound one, it’s just not a universal need. Making your console dependent on a niche feature and only having like 2 exclusive launch titles and bunch of third party ports is not going to compel people to buy a whole new console, especially when everyone and their grandma already owns your previous console that had hundreds of games available on it. I bought one with my brother mostly so I could play Breath of the Wild when it was impossible to buy a market price Switch. It’s perfectly fine as a console and I used the portable mode on occasion. It just doesn’t have a lot of other reasons to exist.

secondaccountlemmy,

At least the pad was included with the wii u.

Nintendoland was THE shit tho.

kryptonianCodeMonkey,

I recently got the G Cloud for the same reason. I’m sitting in the same room as my playstation, not allowed to exist in the other room all night or my wife feels like I’m mad at her, and don’t always want to sit and binge tv with her. Now I can us PSPlay and Steam Link to play games from my PS5 and gaming PC while sitting on the living room with her. It’s not as nice an experience as playing on a full sized screen with a lighter controller and no occasional connectivity issues, but it beats not being able to play at all. Been using it all the time.

Katana314, do games w Avowed's Creators On Why Romance Was Considered, But Ultimately Not Included And Skyrim Comparisons

What I want out of romance in games is to have it take you by surprise, which often means it’s not a “romance option”. Some of the best character scenes I’ve seen wrapped some other major plot point into the fact that one person cares a bit too deeply about another, and processes it all very suddenly.

So I’m fine with this removal. All those romance choices in RPGs like Fallout and Skyrim felt ultra shallow to me. Even BG3 just seems like raw wish fulfillment from a horny cast.
