Sadly, I don’t think ray tracing is going to fix how boring this game is. I also backed the kickstarter because I’m a huge Banjo Kazooie fan. I started this game 3 separate times and could never will myself to get more than halfway. Not only is the gameplay uninteresting, the writing just doesn’t have the same charm as the BK games
Why does this game need a remake? It came out pretty recently. They could probably just release a graphics and content patch for the base game. Or a sequel. Why rerelease a game like this?
To me it’s kinda the perfect game to remake (hopefully it IS remade and not just rereleased) because it had a lot of potential that it just did not live up to. A graphics and content pack would not improve the game much at all, because the let down was the gameplay and mechanics. If they can re-tool that, they may have a solid game here.
Maybe! I don’t think there’s a right answer until hindsight shows us how the game does. I can also imagine it has a lot to do with what the folks holding the money think will sell better, a sequel to a poorly received game, or a (potentially) lower risk remake?
I guess if we get new games in the long run I don’t really mind, it just seems weird.
I played Yooka-Laylee on release and it was overall an enjoyable game. As I understand they fixed a number of bugs a few months after release, but by then us release day folks had beaten it (and reviewers reviewed it).
The first level of the game was excellent, the later levels felt more rushed (or at least lacking the same level of polish). Maybe the changes will be to those levels, although level layout is key so I don’t know if you can just resize/move things.
I played Impossible Lair about a year after release and thought it was awesome.
Based on this trailer I doubt I’ll play the original again, but maybe I can be convinced.
They probably are, but they decided to make it over in a new engine. Since they have to port the gameplay mechanics over anyways, why not release a remastered version of the original to help fund development of the next one.
3D models aren’t tied to Unity, so all 3D models could probably easily be imported to Unreal.
Unity also has a 3D model exporter, so they could have used that to get all 3D models positions into Unreal within minutes.
E: still stuff like animations and game logic obviously take more time. Not trying to say that porting a whole game can be done in minutes, just the 3D Models.
Yes, there are many basic file types that would be easy. That said, 3D models and raw image textures are only a few basic examples of game assets. Many like customized materials or maps just save in an engine-specific format.
Hence the comment suggesting they have tools that at least closely convert what someone has from Unity.
Sick! I tried the beta for this out and was very impressed. Game has been great for a while but the controller support for me is pushing it even higher
Never realized that was the first FF to have the same sprites on exploration and battle. And the characterization in just the hit animations. Thanks for posting this.
Weird. As a die-hard collectathon lover I thought the game was “ok”. I played it after all the patches. Some challenges were ridiculous and unfun, worlds felt empty and too big at times. Controls were okay. Still fun to explore the worlda and find challenges.

I’m optimistic, Yooka Laylee and the impossible lair was a very nice platformer so I would hope with more experience and budget they can make the original game much better. Still weird that they’re opting for a remake and not a sequel though.
And OP posted twenty fucking seven trailers in less than two hours. That’s positively excessive. Trailers are one of the least useful types of content here in the first place, but to fill everyone’s feed with them is completely unnecessary.
My prediction is that people will overhype it with lots of hopes for super complex systems, call it shit when it has fewer mechanics and civs than 3/4/5/6 with all their DLC, and then eventually decide it’s good after a couple years of DLC and patches.
You know, the usual Civ cycle. I’ll probably buy it day 1 assuming it isn’t actually broken, per usual, and dump a couple hundred hours in it, per usual.
The AI has never been great in the series for various reasons, but for whatever reason it just did not know how to play in Civ6. I’d either get crushed by the bonuses early on if I played on high difficulty or have the game firmly in hand by the Renaissance otherwise. Easily the worst game in the series for me as a result.
Yeah, it seems at a certain breaking point in the difficulty curve it becomes “catch up with the AI boni”, which made it a completely different game for me. And as you said, usually by renaissance you know if this is going to be a landslide victory (which at that point becomes a chore), or if you’re screwed.
Yes pretty graphics are nice, but I have never understood why it seems like all effort to make better game ‘AI’ just completely stopped.
Like I get getting game ai to act ‘real’ is/was virtually impossible, but it’s possible to fake it enough to make it enjoyable and has been for a long while and yet is always an afterthought.
The first game was funded through Kickstarter and a random Czech millionaire who really liked history. I don’t exactly blame them for not having the marketing budget needed to really make to first game as successful as it could’ve.
Hopefully, the amazing success of the first game can propell the second into being the Skyrim level RPG success they deserve.
AFAIK, modding is the main reason for Skyrims long term success. Sure, it did its part in inspiring people initially, but what keeps at least me coming back is my interest in trying new mods.
But it also didn’t start there with Elder Scrolls series. Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas use a very moddable predecessor of the Skyrim engine, and thus build the community up for Skyrim and later games.
Modability of KC:D was rather limited, so there isn’t a community around as big as the Skyrim one. That means with Skyrim, you get what you can mod into it, while with Kingdom Come, you mostly just get what you buy.
So I don’t expect it to be the next Skyrim, but never the less I am interested in it.
