Imo the biggest failure of the bits was the egregiously priced proprietary memory cards. Outrageously expensive for very little space. Made the value proposition compared to the post price drop 3ds (which used micro SDS) a no brainer unfortunately

Good luck to you as well! And I also get that. The first was so unique that it’s hard to get that same first experience. And I think I see what you mean too with the silence. If I had to guess maybe it’s dollman, or all the new fun ways to get around, or the Magellan being available all over the place. I did have a great moment trudging through the mountains yesterday though that brought me back to some epic moments I had in the first game

Oh and what I like about them. Exploration is 90% of a good metroidvania for me. Unlocking abilities and finding secrets in old locations is just my favorite gameplay loop. I don’t tend to love super linear metroidvanias a-la Metroid fusion, though it’s still a good game. But exploration usually can’t be all of it. Combat if it’s there should be decent at best, puzzles are always good. But really if exploration isn’t there just right I probably won’t love it. Also most of these I play on steam deck / PC. Except metroid

Well I can already predict this thread will be full of comments on the price so I’ll go ahead and give actual impressions on the game.

It’s really good! The free roam mode is maybe a bit more bare bones than I thought it would be but it’s still great fun driving around and doing challenges. Some of the challenges are legitimately difficult and some of the special ones have taken me ages to complete. The driving feels great, the new movement mechanics are really fun. Knockout tour is absolutely the star here and a great new mode. The AI is harder this time around which makes racing against them much more fun in my opinion.

Overall I’ve been having an amazing time. I do think $80 is steep. But that aside, the game is outstanding
