The Plucky Squire Should Have More Faith In Its Players (kotaku.com)

You see, The Plucky Squire falls prey to one of modern gaming’s most well-intentioned, but still utterly annoying, sins and overtly tutorializes everything. When it deigns to allow the player to pop out of their storybook for a 3D platforming level, the camera pans across the entirety of the stage outlining the intended path...

chloyster,

Gotta agree on UFO 50. It’s an absolutely stellar game. I’ve mostly dropped plucky squire in favor of it, although I do want to at least finish it

chloyster,

More or less. It’s like action 52 but good.

It also has a whole fake narrative tied to it. The collection is 50 games released by the company “UFO Soft,” a fake game company. Each game has little blurbs on its history. Some games have multiple entries to their series, some are one off. Others are “spiritual successors” to others. It’s a whole little universe in the game. And even though not every game so far has been for me, they are all at the least creative and interesting. And some games I absolutely adore and want to play through to the end asap. I’ve only just touched the 25th game and have ~ 15 hours. And I know some will take me a long time. There are also secrets to find outside of the 50 games. The menu has a terminal and you can find hidden codes that give God modes to games, and some provide hidden lore of the universe this game company exists in

chloyster,

I have a bit of an obsession with handheld systems. I’ve always been on the lookout for cool handhelds. Probably started with some leapfrog devices I had when I was a kid.

Some of the more interesting ones include a piboy. A raspberry pi 4 stuffed into a gameboy dmg like shell to emulate games. More recently I’ve been very into my analogue Pocket. I play a ton of stuff on that as it can accurately recreate a ton of older systems. I’m also quite interested in getting a playdate at some point, but have yet to justify it.

I also have some modded GBC and GBA systems. With USB c charging and nicer screens

chloyster,

Fair warning. If you are looking at the piboy by experimental pi, their website has been mostly down for months now. They seem to have abandoned the project :(

chloyster,

At the time, PT was the scariest thing I’d ever played. Was super obsessed with that demo.

Will never get over silent hills cancelation

chloyster,

For homebrew shooter stuff you can check out

bulletgba.pqrs.org

It’s bullet hell but pretty simple and fun

For other homebrew stuff definitely check out Apotris. One of the best Tetris clones out there.

chloyster,

Ah, yeah it might be kind of rough on an SP. You could play it normally though tbh. The menus are flipped but once you’re in the game there’s not much difference playing it flipped on its side

chloyster,
chloyster,

I think the title does a fine job explaining it isn’t to be trusted 🤷‍♀️.

But yeah for real it’s not legit. These people poached the trademark and are trying to cash in

chloyster,

Talk of emulation is definitely allowed but might be for the best to not link places to get roms. Just out of an abundance of caution

The Eurogamer 100 - 100 best games to play right now (www.eurogamer.net)

Not a particularly interesting article necessarily, but I wanted to share this as the list is actually quite good in my opinion, and it’s laid out very nicely. It’s one page that’s very easy to scroll through. Might find some things you havent played!

chloyster,

Similar boat. I’ve tried with friends on numerous occasions and it’s never clicked for me. I will say MH rise and the wolf mounts and weird grapple shot thing got me the closest to getting into one. The movement those 2 afforded made the game feel better to me.

chloyster,

I feel like short of making it free to play and having a complete art style rework this game doesn’t have great hopes of ever being relevant. I mean from what I’ve gathered the gameplay itself is decent to good. But yeah they just misfired so hard with this.

Despite it all, I feel bad for the majority of devs who spent so much of their life working on this and who are likely going to be out of a job. Of course I don’t know anything about the inner workings, but I’d be willing to bet it’s not most of their fault’s that sony had been pushing so hard for live service stuff under their former leadership

chloyster,

It’s def not a great look but it’s also only 1 former dev. I’m not going to judge the whole team on the words of 1 person who isn’t working there anymore

chloyster,

Tbh the fact you even know a character’s name makes you an expert in my book. You know more than anyone I’ve ever talked to! 😅

chloyster, (edited )

I mean that’s one way to look at it I suppose. However I don’t think the story being secondary to gameplay means we have to discount what is there available to us. Like if you want to ignore it that’s fine but I don’t think you can say it’s wholesale not canon.

zeldadungeon.net/dont_misinterpret_aonumas_words_…

Edit: also want to say I am not taking this link as gospel, but just showing how the words can be interpreted many ways.

Also the newest timeline is on display at the official Nintendo live event in Sydney, which I would argue is more legit than a licensed book

Regardless it’s not really that important, so if people like the timeline, who cares? Nintendo clearly acknowledges it, and the devs don’t use it when making new games. Both can be true

chloyster,

I keep trying to get into the games but never finish :/

I got very close to the end of p3p way back when that was a new game. I got past the second palace in p5r but fell off again. I feel like I get fomo in games where I try and do everything when I play a game but that’s just not really feasible in persona. Same reason baldurs gate intimidates me.

It’s a mental block I need to get over

chloyster,

Damn that timing! I just posted the same thing (article though). I’ll delete mine though.

Regarding the news though this is awesome!

chloyster,

Yeah we posted a similar story at basically the exact same time

chloyster,

Fair enough! It’s back up :)

beehaw.org/post/15796285

chloyster,

No problem! Glad you figured it out :)

chloyster,

Game looks like some chill fun if / when I end up in the mood for an open world game. Sounds like some technical issues need to get ironed out so seems like a good pick up on sale game for me

chloyster,

Idk. Some apps have link previews which def makes it longer. You also have the option of not including review quotes which shortens it. I don’t think it’s too bad ¯_(ツ)_/¯

chloyster,

I go to the open critic page and nab their reddit formatted review thread from the copy button under “share this game.” Then I click on the reddit export.

This formats it nicely for Lemmy as well and I just paste that in

Just finished Alan Wake 2 angielski

I just finished Alan Wake 2 and the 3 episodes of the DLCs. Alan Wake 2 is a literal masterpiece in my opinion, the gameplay was similar to its first game but refined, the story dark, mood, mysterious and weird. I also loved the references to the other games. Like Ahti. The ending of Alan Wake 2 made me wonder and sad (I won’t...

chloyster,

Alan Wake 2 was published by and likely would not exist without Epic. It is unlikely it will come to steam

chloyster,

Control is on steam because it was published by 505 games.

Don’t get me wrong I’m anti epic buying exclusivity for games. But like if they fully funded the development and published it…

chloyster,

I find the game plays a lot better than the first one. I played the remaster recently and found it a bit of a slog to get through but absolutely adored the sequel

chloyster,

Oh for sure I definitely agree there haha. As far as software is concerned I don’t like the epic store. Steam is much better on that front. But I also don’t have any true moral issue with the epic store. Especially for playing a game they funded. Epic also funded and published the Alan Wake remaster. They effectively were able to bring back a long dormant series, and for that I am happy since Alan Wake 2 ended up being one of my all time favorite games.

I wish they didn’t have to keep it in their store, since I like steam more, but at the end of the day I’m not too bothered by it
