Coelacanth, do games w Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl - Smoking Barrels Gameplay Trailer
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

I still can’t get over how “wrong” it sounds and feels to have native English speaking accents for the voice work instead of the heavy Ukrainian and Russian accents. This is one to play with Ukrainian VA and English subtitles for sure.

theunknownmuncher,

I noticed this, too. “FUCK HIM UP WITH A GRENADE!”, “Cover me, I’ll hide”; I need a Ukrainian language setting for these voicelines. I need that panic “Oh shit!” feeling of not really knowing what the AI were shouting about like I had in SoC, and then getting surprised when they had flanked and crept up around me. That was pretty core to my experience, while the accents built a lot of immersion and feel in the world.

For sure, STALKER is just not the same without Cheeki Breeki!

theunknownmuncher,
GoodEye8,

Counterpoint. Get out of here stalker.

I think Stalker 2 needs a mix and match option where we can choose the language of the dialogue line by line. Or at least a future “meme” language option where the best lines of every translation is used.

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

I think that was supposed to be an attempt at an accent?

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

The game will have a Ukrainian language option afaik. There won’t be a Russian dub though.

The development company is Ukrainian, I’m sure they agree with you but are working with some tighter constraints than typical for game development. Please give them some slack on feature requests.

theunknownmuncher,

Believe me, I have nothing but patience and slack to give them. I see how my tone could be read as more demanding than nostalgic in that message. I’ve waited like 14 years for this game, that I thought would never be made when the original studio dissolved, I wouldn’t even be phased by an additional delay.

Even where this game may have faults, I have faith that there will be incredible work done by the modding community delivering more than I can ask for, such as there was for SoC/CoP

PunchingWood, do games w Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl - Smoking Barrels Gameplay Trailer

I don’t know, it looks pretty weak and mediocre to me, quite dated too honestly, both visually and gameplay wise.

A while ago I read impressions from people that got to try this game on events and they did not seem to be too impressed.

I don’t think this title will live up to its name.

Hubi,
@Hubi@feddit.org avatar

Gamestar, the largest German gaming site, recently stated that they are very optimistic about the game and that the preview they got to play behind closed doors was excellent. Maybe it looks a bit outdated, but that was also the case for the previous titles when they came out.

theunknownmuncher, (edited )

So what kinds of gameplay differences would you have liked to see, that would not be “weak” and “mediocre” to you? What would you have them deliver?

One of the things that gets me excited about this game is the fact that the gameplay and visuals feel and look true to SoC. Which is exactly what most have been asking for, a “modern” S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, and wow does it appear the have nailed it.

PunchingWood,

It just looks like a generic 2015 game or something. Gunplay seems very bulletspongy, weapons seem very static and weightless, general atmosphere is dull, AI enemies just run around like imbeciles and spray into the general direction of the player. In a game like this immersion should be a huge priority, but when it comes to shooting it just looks so incredibly generic.

It just makes it look like this game was made for the sake of having a sequel, without really knowing what they could add to it. It just looks like a Fallout game with all the interesting parts stripped out of it.

theunknownmuncher, (edited )

Gunplay seems very bulletspongy

It is S.T.A.L.K.E.R… you compare it to fallout, is fallout not bulletspongy? This isn’t a PvP game, it is an open world RPG… There is various levels of armor, some of it is pretty strong, and there is also extensive differences between types of bullets and weapons. Without armor, you’re going to be dead in a couple quick shots. With armor, you will bleed to death without bandage or medkit. Some of the bullets will specifically be good for high armor penetration, some more effective for soft targets. If it is like the past S.T.A.L.K.E.R. titles, head shots are a 1 hit kill with any bullet, unless protected by armor. If you think S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is bulletspongy, clearly you’ve never had to try to run by the military base machine gun tower outside the cordon… Or the number of times an NPC gets a good headshot and BOOM game over, time to load from save, in an instant… You can get very far in SoC with the silenced pistol only by going for stealth and headshots to insta-drop enemies. So satisfying.

weapons seem very static and weightless

?? Attachment options, ammunition options, jams and equipment damage, upgrade-tree for every individual weapon… You can set up one AK-74 for sniping and another for close-up bullet spraying.

general atmosphere is dull

AI enemies just run around like imbeciles and spray into the general direction of the player

Have you ever played a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. title? SoC had literally revolutionary AI, where NPCs behaved in ways never before seen in video games prior, such as intelligently grouping, splitting up and flanking, scouring an area in a human-like-way instead of just walking to wherever you were and then giving up when you aren’t there, taking cover, reinforcing and covering each other, and applying grenades in actually useful ways. I mean yes, it was still a 2007 game, it definitely wasn’t perfect, and there was loads of wonkiness and weird NPC behavior that you could exploit, but at the time it was mind-blowing. Clear Skies took this idea even further and applied it faction-wide to the entire map, and suddenly you were dropped into a highly dynamic full scale war with shifting fronts and struggles over strategic objectives. Amazing AI is one thing that the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. titles are known for.

You can hear in the video ~1:24, an AI yells “Cover me, I’ll hide”. I’m guessing they included in this clip to hint and signal that this game will have the same kind of focus on great AI mechanics. In some of the indoor clips, you can see that the AI are actually taking cover during the fire fight instead of moving around. Even if they took the NPC AI code from Call of Pripyat and just directly shoved it into this game, it would 1) be nothing like what you just described and 2) be head and shoulders above NPC AI in even recent titles… I’d love to see some significant improvements and iteration still, though.

It just makes it look like this game was made for the sake of having a sequel

Hurray! Exactly what everyone was asking for! We just want more original S.T.A.L.K.E.R., yes, correct.

You can not like the atmosphere and environments, that’s fine, if so this game really is not for you at all. You can’t say it doesn’t look immersive, unless you’re just trolling.

What is really ironic is that ^ describes fallout perfectly, EXCEPT for dull atmosphere…

PunchingWood, do games w Enshrouded - Souls of the Frozen Frontier | Update 4 Highlights

Well, had to give it another try. Before, my 3070 could barely even handle the game at decent settings and higher framerates, now my 4080 Super shouldn’t be an issue at all.

After some testing I had hoped it’d be in a better state now, only shortly tried to load my save from a long time ago but it doesn’t look very promising, was at least hoping 100+ FPS at this point, but I face one side I get 70 FPS, and I turn to a misty valley and it burns down to like 20. Also initially had issues to even get the game running again, it would just freeze when the game window was active, I could hear my buttons having effect, but nothing would show until I took the focus off the game.

After rebooting it a couple of times and fiddling with some settings it seems to now work (still strangely the same settings as I started with), and sometimes it performs well and sometimes it struggles. Very inconsistent. If I turn off my MSI Afterburner undervolt config it feels like the game will melt my rig, the fans go absolutely crazy.

Also there seems to be quite some pop-in textures, terrain, trees and foliage. I don’t really recall this from before, at least not this noticable.

Hope it’s a driver thing or perhaps still more optimisation, because the game seems fun. Combat is still super basic and easy though, but being able to build a lively village makes up for it for me.

I wonder how the percentage of sales to reviews, unboxing, etc is.

Idk who else would buy these.

Stovetop,

I bought a PS4 pro back in the day but am giving this one a pass.

I’m all for incremental mid-gen upgrades, but not at that price point. If it can’t be priced competitively with the prices people have been paying, then it should not be made until the hardware they want meets that price point.

Should have made it $499 and drop the base price of the PS5 to $399.

Voytrekk,
@Voytrekk@lemmy.world avatar

I bought the PS4 Pro as well, because it didn’t feel like a bad value. It felt like a mid gen refresh where we got some extra power for no extra cost. Sony thinks players care about the extra performance for another $200, which is ridiculous. Up until this generation, consoles got cheaper over time as they become cheaper to produce. This is the first generation (that I remember) where the cost has stayed the same/gone up.

I fully agree that at $500, this would be a no-brainer for those wanting the extra power. A $350 base console would be a good pairing.

Every time I hear about eve, I remember how much I wished it was a slightly different game. There is no way to play eve without investing many hours each time. Everything takes a very long time.

On the plus side, just the feeling that someone may come up and kill you and take your stuff makes the game feel quite scary. I was doing wormholes for a while and pretty much was constantly nervous about getting killed. Never happened though.

Glytch, do games w Nintendo Music – Announcement Trailer

I’ve tried it and have a few thoughts:

Initial selection is only 23 games, not sure why they’re not just releasing everything. I guess they’re planning on parceling the music out like their emulators.

The choices of games are also kind of strange, like why 2 versions of Metroid? Why starfox 64 and not like Mario 64

The ability to extend songs up to 60 minutes is pretty cool

The idea of character specific playlists is interesting

It crashes semi frequently, not a good sign.

It does add value to the Switch online membership, but not much at this point.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

This was something i noticed too. I probably won’t be using the app much because i already have all their music i want in my iTunes cloud library but the selection is odd and the choice too release the music selectively feels strange too me. I feel like they’d get more profit if they had most of their stuff on their from the get go

DumbAceDragon,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Initial selection is only 23 games, not sure why they’re not just releasing everything.

It’s to keep people returning to the app by artificially boosting the amount of updates.

Either that or licensing issues, but I just wanna have my conspiracy theory.

Glytch,

I think Nintendo already owns the rights to most (if not all) of the music for their games so I’m pretty sure your conspiracy theory is correct.

If they don’t own the rights to that music they’ve certainly been militant in taking down any other platform that makes it available.

all their titles start with the name of the tabletop game its based on,
in this case its: “Vampire: The Masquerade”
the actual tille of the game starts at “Bloodlines”.

thanks to that naming scheme all their titles are fucked before they even start
