I like to play my games knowing the developers optimized it for exactly the hardware I’m playing on.

Starfield had a crippling issue that they made the wrong decision at the very start of development — thousands of procedural generated planets instead of a dozen hand-crafted planets.

If they hadn’t made that mistake than Starfield would have been a hit.

World of Warcraft and Elder Scrolls Online subscription rolled into Gamepass to convert mmo players into Gamepass subscribers.

Diablo 5: Sold individually at launch but accessing new seasons require Gamepass. Same with CoD.

Minecraft Base Game F2P and packaged with every Windows OS. Full game with updates and multiplayer require Gamepass subscription though.

Ubisoft’s bread and butter were never assassin’s creed type hardcore games, but those trashy looking pet sims you could find in the bargain bin. The only reason they’re able to make the hardcore gamerz stuff is because of the financial security the shitty pet games brought in

They only made $1.45 billion last year, just up 56% year-over-year.

They were expecting to make over two billion. Which from the perspective of an American corporation, means they lost half a billion dollars. So the end of year bonuses for the c suites are only half as much as they were anticipating, which from the perspective of American executives is like they lost hundreds of thousands of dollars this year.

So you see, it makes perfect sense why hundreds to thousands of employees must be laid off. The business is in a dire position!

This is largely propelled forward by teenage boys and YouTubers and steamers who cater to teenage boys.

I remember being a young boy and getting enraged at Jack Thompson. It felt like he was going after me personally.

These youngsters perceive their primary identities—male, white, and gamer—as under siege. The mere hint of such challenges triggers a stress response, flooding their brains with cortisol. Consequently, when they retaliate by harassing developers, they experience a rush of dopamine. It completely turns off their higher thinking, they’re only interested in the next hit.

You’re right though, the jump between generations is getting less and less noticeable. N64 to Gamecube was like night and day.

I had this happen with me for Hearthstone. It’s so easy and quick to play that it ends up taking up a huge chunk of time.

Once I stopped playing it though, nothing else could really fill the void. So my playtime decreased and never really recovered

That’s nothing to feel guilty about as long as you’re not neglecting trying to find a job and self improvement. Your 20s are rough, all opportunities available are pretty shitty and exploit your energy and inexperience. Videogames are a great way to stay sane during this.
