Strayce, do games w Outer Worlds 2 no longer exclusive to Xbox, is now coming to PS5 – WGB

The first one wasn’t even good.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

It reviewed well, and I personally loved it.

Deceptichum,

Same here, huge fan and think proper funding will lead to a great sequel.

iAmTheTot,

It was good, not great.

Lucidlethargy,

I was more engaged by this than the Witcher 3. I’m not saying it’s better, I’m just saying it was engaging.

ms_lane,

I wouldn’t even say it was good.

It was aggressively mid.

I own it, I’ve played it through. I don’t think I’ll ever pick it up ever again. I’ll get this sequel when it’s under $10.

iAmTheTot,

I’ve played many, many good games only once and don’t think I’ll ever play them again.

EnderMB,

It could have been good if all the planets were actually playable.

It felt like half a game, and another six months to bake would have probably turned it into a great game with some replayability. Put a gun to my head, and I couldn’t tell you the plot, but I remember both “some” fun, and a lot of frustration of how short it was.

NOT_RICK,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

I liked it despite its clear flaws

BertramDitore,

I really wanted to like it, but just couldn’t get into it. It was completely forgettable for me, and I like nearly every game that has a sci-fi setting. My bar is very low for that genre, but this one was not engaging at all for me.

MajorHavoc, do games w Mars Attracts is a new theme park management game based on cult classic movie Mars Attacks. – WGB

Whether I buy this game may depend entirely on whether abducted humans can be turned into chuaua hybrids.

I hope they understand that this game needs to be deeply deeply weird, to succeed.

setsneedtofeed,
@setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world avatar

The trailer with the despairing astronaut and the skull themed rollercoaster is a positive sign.

Gradually_Adjusting, do games w Avowed Launches to Strong Reviews – WGB
@Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world avatar

I’ll probably get it if I hear Obsidian took any creative risks, but so far I’m hearing that it’s a mass appeal oversimplified ARPG with looter shooter vibes. Not really the kind of thing I crave from Obsidian.

arun,

I haven’t seen much coverage on the game yet myself, but I did see the review SkillUp uploaded. Apparently, the writing is pretty bland and mid, like that of Veilguard.

Gradually_Adjusting,
@Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world avatar

Seems like games with that good old novelistic style is now entirely dependent on indie developers.

ArcticFox,
@ArcticFox@lemmy.ca avatar

Skillup gave good reviews to Diablo 4 ignoring its shortcomings completely. Not sure I can trust his reviews after that.

If you’re on the fence about avowed, in the meantime I’d highly recommend Eternal Stands.

simple, do games w Tony Hawk teases a new game: “there will be a future.” – WGB

Considering how Skate is going the live service route, I really hope they make a new proper skating game.

DarkThoughts, (edited )

Really hard to imagine that they won't milk the shit out of it.
Edit: First thing I saw checking on Reddit was a repost of a Tony Hawk photo and comments claiming the anniversary being today. Totally not marketing.

Plastic_Ramses,

3.99 for a new skater that one would have unlocked by just playing the game in the earlier installments.

RightHandOfIkaros, do games w Atomfall Hands-On Preview: Rebellion’s New IP is More Than Just British Fallout - WGB article

IDK, reading this really solidified the idea that it actually is just Fallout: Britain. Gameplay is incredibly similar, and there appear to be a lot of instances of “Fallout has X, so this game has X too.” Kinda like “I will copy your homework but change it a bit so its not too suspicious.”

Also, a spelling mistake in literally the first sentence is not a good look for whoever the Editor is.

wwb4itcgas, (edited )

I don’t disagree, but my problem is the ways in which it clearly isn’t Fallout. Specifically, FO has some deep lore that justifies the existence, mannerisms and internecine postures of the various factions, but here it’s apparently just… Waves of nutters take the first opportunity to move into a radiological quarantine zone and set up shop as conveniently thematic gangs for… reasons.

“Just think about it lads! Not only can we live in a place that’ll kill us on the cellular level, but we can wear theatrical facepaint - don’t ask where we’re getting a steady supply of that - like a 24/7 Kiss revival concert! It’ll be awesome! There’ll be matching top hats for everyone. Millinery is a real growth industry in here. Mind the mercury.”

But other than that, it looks fun enough.

Edit: Spelling.

surewhynotlem,

Not only can we live in a place that’ll kill us on the cellular level, but we can wear theatrical facepaint

This no longer seems like a stretch.

BOFH,

I wonder if the comparisons are just lazy journalism. Saying “it’s like that” has to be much less effort than properly summarising the content.

The comparison I’d reach for is STALKER tbh but I’m trying to let it be its own thing in my mind. Because mumbles I’m looking forward to trying it as I really like fallout…

atmur, do games w Wreckfest 2 officially announced at THQ Nordic showcase

Fuck yeah. After Test Drive Solar Crown turned out to be live service garbage, I’ve been waiting for another racing game to look forward to. Hopefully the career mode has a bit more depth than Wreckfest 1.

stembolts,

For similar series, I recommend Burnout and Flatout. See my comment in this thread for elaboration.

Career wise I think Burnout : Paradise City is the most fun of the games I mentioned because you have to go around the city finding hidden jumps, hunting cars roaming the city (when you catch them (by crashing them, of course) you get to drive them), and beating time trials that create unique opportunities to fly through the air and blast through traffic, ideally crashing your opponents into them… anyway, I love the genre, hope you find your game!

atmur,

Oh hell yeah I’ve played almost all of both series.

Flatout 1 is alright, hasn’t aged especially well. Suffers from being completely overshadowed by its sequel in every way.

Flatout 2/Ultimate Carnage is still my favorite Bugbear game, with Wreckfest being a close but firm second.

Flatout 3 is.

Flatout 4 is honestly not terrible, but still feels like a cheap imitation of the first 2 games.

Burnout 1 also suffers from sequel shadow.

Burnout 2 is a great arcade racer that no one talks about because…

Burnout 3 is quite possibly the best arcade racer ever made. Absolute masterpiece.

Burnout Revenge is somehow just as good. Whether I prefer this or 3 depends entirely on how much I enjoy traffic checking on that day. I posted Junkie XL - Today to the music community a few days ago because I was playing Revenge recently, what a soundtrack.

Still haven’t played Dominator, should probably get around to that.

Burnout Paradise is also excellent in its own right, but I think going open world took away some of the charm that the previous games had. Tracks were so well designed in 3 and Revenge. Still love Paradise too, but 3 and Revenge are just absurdly good.

ms_lane, do games w Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will come to Game Pass on August 8 according to reliable source

Too bad, cancelled Game Pass due to the price rises, won’t be resubbing.

wizardbeard,

The game is worth picking up on sale, in my opinion.

Katana314,

I’ve stopped using my Xbox entirely since Tango Gameworks was murdered.

Aielman15,
@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

There’s not much point in subscribing for $20/month to play a game that frequently goes on sale for less than that and can be owned forever.

domi,
@domi@lemmy.secnd.me avatar

Damn, it’s 20 bucks now? You have to play a lot of different games to make that worth it.

drmoose, do games w New Darksiders game teased by THQ Nordic

so they’ve covered all 4 horsemen in the last 4 games:

  • Darksiders 1 - War
  • Darksiders 2 - Death
  • Darksiders 3 - Fury
  • Darksiders Genesis - Strife (+War)

What do you think is next?

Sylvartas,

The original plan was to have all 4 together in a co-op game iirc

warbond,

Dude, seeing the 3 other horsemen come down at the end of the first game had me so fucking hyped

addie,
@addie@feddit.uk avatar

Genesis is a different style of game tho, isn’t it? Diablo-like rather than third-person hack and slash?

Love the series. Personally prefer 3 due to its more limited scope; the other two are great, but to on for a very long time, and I really can’t be bothered playing through the Portal-like bits again. Happy if 4 is the same length as 3.

ytsedude, do games w Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered hints at San Diego Comic-Con

OMG, I would lose mind over remasters!!! The story, writing, voice-acting, and design were all amazing. Gameplay was OK. Maybe they could give that an upgrade!

PythagreousTitties,

I played 1, 2, and Kain 2 a couple years ago. The gameplay has not held up at all.

I’m pretty sure the guy that played the octopus god passed away awhile ago, sadly.

ytsedude,

Aw man. Sorry to hear that. What a voice and performance, though! I can still hear him in my head.

PythagreousTitties,

Yeah, same. Kinda too bad that whole team didn’t turn the story into an animated series or something.

GuerillaGorillas,

I’m really hoping they somehow held onto the master tracks, Tony Jay’s voice is irreplaceable. Hell, a big part of this series is the voice acting, if they could use the original takes not compressed that’d be the best case scenario.

Fredselfish,
@Fredselfish@lemmy.world avatar

That would be awesome! I loved playing those on Ps1

cybervseas, do games w Borderlands 4 narrative director hints at dialling back the toilet humour – WGB

I don’t know that there is anything left in borderlands if you take out the toilet humor…

I never played 3, only 1 and a little of 2. Does anyone have a good video recommendation on how severe the problem is in 3?

Passerby6497,

There’s a lot of decent non toilet humor and some really good gunplay. The tiny Tina dlc was amazing, but I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews of the stand alone game.

flop_leash_973, do games w Tony Hawk teases a new game: “there will be a future.” – WGB

Tony Hawk pro wheelchairs

setsneedtofeed,
@setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world avatar

Unironically, I would play this.

einlander, do games w New Darksiders game teased by THQ Nordic

I don’t know, embracer has their hand in this.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

They’ve had their hands in plenty of other games, good and bad, including the previous Darksiders.

Viking_Hippie,

So what you’re saying is that it’s doomed?

tb_,
@tb_@lemmy.world avatar

Nordic Games bought what remained of THQ back in the day when the latter went bankrupt. (THQ used to be comparable to the likes of EA and Ubisoft before they made some poor decisions)

The holdings company behind THQ Nordic rebranded into Embracer some years ago.

False, do games w Warcraft II: Remastered internal alpha spotted, hinting at an announcement soon – WGB

Can they fix Warcraft 3 while they’re at it?

Fiivemacs,

No, only remasters of the remakes while remastering a remastered remake.

dinckelman, do games w Warcraft II: Remastered internal alpha spotted, hinting at an announcement soon – WGB

If they block access to the originals, and also release the remaster in a miserable state, like what happened with 3R, they can keep it

pinball_wizard, do games w More Halo: Combat Evolved Remake Details Emerge, Including Who Is Making It

This feels sad for everyone involved.

There’s so many okay games that could be remastered into excellent ones.

If I didn’t have the Master Chief Collection, I would obtain my copy before Microsoft makes it have an “accident”.
