Day 75 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots (lemmy.world) angielski

Today’s game is New Vegas, and it also marks the end of New Vegas for me. For the screenshot I originally considered doing my ending slideshow, but I thought that might 1) contain too many spoilers (though I doubt there’s many people that haven’t played it) and 2) make for too long of a post as I got almost all the slides....

Viking_Hippie,

I mean, isn’t the real Mojave desert quite beige? It would probably be weird if they made it green or blue 😛

Viking_Hippie,

The real Mojave is actually very tan

Makes sense since the sun is always shining on it 😁

Forcing you to shut up or go to court isn’t great either, though.

On the big stuff where they’re liable for a lot of money and you might be able to get a pro bono lawyer, sure.

On the small stuff, though, the prospect of having to pay for a lawyer and likely have your case thrown out by a judge for not being worth the expense and effort of suing a foreign company is probably going to deter a LOT of legitimate claims.

If, for example, I want to return a game in accordance with the rules and they won’t let me, I’m not gonna lawyer up and sue them from the other side of the Atlantic.

Viking_Hippie,

as I understand it, arbitration is still available (if both parties agree, I assume), it’s just not a requirement anymore.

Unless the OP is a forgery of some sort, you evidently DON’T understand it.

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/1ab2e3fb-318b-403c-a3cd-a01066023184.jpeg

still seems to me that consumers are getting more options which is usually a good thing.

Nope. They’re switching from one mandatory method which favors companies liable to get into big disputes where a court case is advantageous to the consumer, which isn’t the case with them, to one that favors a company wanting to avoid a lot of issues too small to warrant a lawyer.

It’s not anywhere near as bad for consumers as when a utility company that poisons thousands of people forces everyone to corporate-friendly arbitration procedure (likely with the “neutral” third party much less neutral than the ones Valve used), but it’s certainly not GOOD for Steam users to not be able to complain without lawyering up.

Viking_Hippie, (edited )

Which is why it’s best to let the user choose rather than force one or the other.

The reason why we always hear about companies forcing arbitration is because arbitration is best for them when it comes to the big stuff that the news report on, compared to court.

The reason why we never hear about the opposite is twofold:

  1. it doesn’t happen as often and
  2. “yamanii didn’t get their refund approved even though they were entitled to according to the rules” isn’t something that makes headlines or even makes it to court.
Viking_Hippie, (edited )

I don’t think it is. If it’s anything like the US court systems I know more about (criminal, juvenile, immigration, main civil court), it’s extremely backlogged already.

And that’s even before considering jurisdiction and how much more a lawyer licensed to practice in at least two countries charges.

Even IF you decided to go through with it in spite of everything, you could easily end up spending thousands of dollars fighting an $80 case and STILL be likely to lose.

Viking_Hippie,

But doesn’t the change open up for litigation in small claims court?

More like mandates it. For those who live in the country to even have ACCESS to it. The vast majority of Steam users don’t (while the US has more users than any other single country, it’s still only ~14m out of 120m) and would also need a lawyer licensed to practice in both countries afaik.

So nah, I don’t suspect that this change will benefit the users in general, rather the opposite…

Viking_Hippie,

The problem isn’t the people voluntarily participating in the world’s biggest grift losing money.

The problem is the real world consequences for other people.

Viking_Hippie,

Only way to turn up to a party tbh…

Viking_Hippie,

Honestly looks a lot better than I thought

cautiously optimistic

This looks more akin to Final Fantasy

Day 20 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots (lemmy.world) angielski

the game is Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. I took this while exploring during the main story. I’m in love with the way this game looks graphically. The way the lighting is handled is gorgeous

Viking_Hippie,

Better than grabbing the blade with his bottom, at least 🤷

Viking_Hippie,

So what you’re saying is that it’s doomed?

Viking_Hippie,

Unfortunately, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 was taken.

Viking_Hippie,

Where did you find the toggle to disable teenagers? Does it work IRL?

Viking_Hippie,

We’ve informed Microsoft, we’re confident the problem will be fixed

Famous last words

Viking_Hippie,

Watching the first half of that video gave my eyes double cancer. Thanks.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) The Sims 4 just got surprise incest, and it's not even the first time (www.pcgamesn.com) angielski

This is one of those genuinely funny bugs, tbh. I remember Singles 2, the slightly more naughty competitor from years ago, had a ton of these weird quirky interactions, like masturbating with guests around and stuff.

Viking_Hippie,

They keep winning the cases themselves in courts very much rigged in their favor, sure, but for each headline, they risk alienating more gamers who don’t appreciate them bullying comparatively tiny sites who are just providing games that Nintendo themselves refuse to sell.

Viking_Hippie,

The only way to truly win this fight is for the devs to face potentially life-ruining circumstances to fight it in court

So you’re saying we release lions in the courtroom?

…oh wait, life-RUINING. Hmm… Including their browser histories in discovery?

I still don’t see how punishing the already victimized helpers is supposed to solve anything…

Viking_Hippie,

Confirmed. They were two spots ahead of me in the line.

Viking_Hippie,

Less than a day after I find out from an old article that there was supposed to be a modernized remake of Gothic 1 on the way to be published this year and got all excited. Fucking fantastic 😮‍💨

Viking_Hippie,

We have cake and chocolate starfish

Can I have my cake sans anus, please?

I’m sensing the beginnings of a meme here…

Speaking of Alpha Centauri sequels, have you considered Beyond Earth?

    Viking_Hippie, (edited )

This and the Fable trailer was what I needed after the ghastly Dragon Age: Veil Fortnite announcement trailer!

    Viking_Hippie,

In the end Larian is a subcontractor of Hasbro

That’s not at all how it works, no. They have a licensing deal with Hasbro to be allowed to make a game with Hasbro’s IP. Hasbro didn’t hire them to make the game.

who’s preparing their own ‘virtual tabletop’ for a while now.

D&D Beyond is not a video game. It’s not even a toolset for a video game. There’s no clash there.

I always suspected it’s not because they won’t, but they can’t due to the licensing issues

This is probably still true, though: according to the release, you won’t be allowed to publish NSFW mods made in the toolset (because apparently that’s legally too close to Larian making D&D porn) even though you’ll still be allowed to do so NOT using the toolset like people have been doing for months.

I’m guessing that not letting people make or change maps and quests is either the same thing or simply just a much bigger undertaking to make a toolset capable of right now 🤷

    Viking_Hippie,

Why can’t you just set a standing order of “make unit x” or “make unit x while we have gas until we get to 50 of them”? That’s strategy. Having to tab back to a building and manually queue a couple of units every several seconds is just creating busywork for players

I agree completely. Related: have you considered turn based strategy games?

    Viking_Hippie,

Bethesda titles outside of Doom and Wolfenstein

    …wat

    Viking_Hippie,

Probably because announcing it would require sharing the reason for it and thus lead to questions about why they and others are still ruining other games with Denuvo…

    Viking_Hippie, (edited )

    TIL!

Edit to make next comment make sense again:

I originally answered “definitely not the original ones!” ør something tø that effect, but found that it might be needlessly combative, so I changed it to just TIL 😁

    Viking_Hippie,

what with them being significantly more popular than the earlier games

Dude! The original ones were cultural touchstones in a market that wasn’t yet oversaturated. They literally invented and defined the whole genre!

More people might be playing the new ones NOW, but the original ones were undoubtedly MUCH more popular in their time.

    Viking_Hippie,

which is why most folks are probably not talking about the old games when they say they like wolfenstein and doom

I wouldn’t be so sure about that, what with the “It runs Doom” meme and the fact that most people on Lemmy seem to be old fucks like me who played them when they originally came out 😄

    Viking_Hippie,

I thought Virtual Boy Pro was what Ben Shapiro’s famously dry wife called him until he paid her to stop?

    Viking_Hippie,

You’re right and I’m sorry for any confusion as I very much intended to blame the human silica packet for his sexual ineptitude and general repulsiveness lol

    Viking_Hippie,

Then this is clearly the article for you!

    Viking_Hippie,

Denuvo continuing to be to gaming what Monsanto was to farming. 🖕

    Viking_Hippie,

Yes and no: they were bought by Bayer 5 years ago, so they don’t exist under that name anymore, but I don’t know how much of their worst bullshit they’re still doing under the new name.

For example, I was unable to confirm or rule out whether they’re still doing the suicide crops and food DRM bullshit as Bayer or not…

    Viking_Hippie,

I’m replaying Baldurs Gate 3 again. Now with even more mods, bringing my total of “nope, can’t possibly play without that one” into triple digits 😄

    Viking_Hippie,

Not mods per se, but there’s walk-through guides living up to their name by walking you through every step of every puzzle. As someone who loves CRPGs but is absolutely awful at puzzles, they’ve saved me countless hours in BG3 alone, let alone game’s in general.

An example search string would be “Baldurs Gate defiled temple puzzle”

As for the barrels, I can’t find one about those specially, but the Fair Fire mod removes unavoidable fire damage fromsurfaces, so that might be of interest 🙂

Is it Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen? World renowned celloist Yo Yo Ma? Former Liverpool FC left back Steve Harkness?

    Viking_Hippie,

Fair enough, I’ll retract that part heh
