I’d be totally OK with some of the songs from SDV making an appearance in the new game. SDV’s music was so relaxing and it fit the game perfectly.

I’m actually quite surprised that nobody has stumbled across that 2014 “Moonlight Jelly” and discovered it was his bandcamp. This is a trove of 2010s vaporwave that I’m glad to have on my radar now!

To all the OPs out there: You don’t have to copy the title verbatim, you can make it easier for your fellow Lemmings by making it less clickbait.

The game is Only Up, which is like a 3D version of Getting Over It.

That’s a my bad of not noticing the title, let lemmy generate the titles and do some minor editing but I miss this.

I wonder why he removed it instead of just leaving it there as is and not updating it anymore.

sugar_in_your_tea, do games w Only Up, one of 2023's biggest Twitch games has been removed from Steam, due to developer's stress

I don’t really understand the decision here, wouldn’t it be better to just put out a notice saying that it won’t see any more updates, discount it, and then move on? A lot of people like it, so I doubt it would require any real work.

Then again, if the OP actually did steal assets, I can understand taking it down to limit liability.

platypode,
@platypode@sh.itjust.works avatar

Even if they didn’t steal assets, a copyright suit is a massive pita to defend against

sugar_in_your_tea,

Created by SCKR Games, Only Up was previously removed from Steam amid accusations of copyright violations connected to various in-game assets

It was already removed for that. I’m just wondering if the accusations weren’t satisfactorily resolved, or if this is something different entirely.

Either way, it’s up to them, but I just think it’s a little odd. It seems like a great game for getting some residual income from.

ech,

They’re the developer, or “dev” if you prefer. OP doesn’t make any sense here.

From what I’ve heard Last Epoch is a good game, but you’re not really doing it any favors by saying “made by redditors”.

manapropos,

That bit makes me think the game is chock full of millenial writing

conciselyverbose,

Holy shit that borderlands 3 "turn the generator on" quote nails why I struggle to push through for the really fun gunplay half the time. They really do just vomit words at you.

GrayBackgroundMusic,

That was amazing. Thank you for linking it.

MonkCanatella,

It’s so funny how people who have no idea about linguistics/communications have such strong know-it-all attitudes about how people communicate. Remember the phenomenon of vocal fry? All the youtube vids like “i discovered this thing that millennial wimmin do and once you notice you’ll HATE IT.” and they just describe vocal fry which is just an absolutely normal part of speech and done by men just as much as women.

$35 Early Access with unfinished story but polished cash shop really shows you where the devs priorities are.

MonkCanatella,

Give it a try on the high seas. I did and I ended up buying it because it really is that good. I never interacted with a cash shop in my entire time playing

fushuan,

… On the story. Their priority is the story. The cash shop is quite recent and the time it takes to develop isn’t even in the same universe as story content. Story content requires developing new zones, new enemy types, voice acting… They spent tons of time developing multiplayer, that’s a huge undertaking by itself where they are improving constantly. They just reworked some quests and remade the tylesets of some campaign zones. Developing the cash shop can’t have been more than 5% of the time they spent developing last year.

Either you don’t know about development in general, you are blinded by rage with the drama they had with the release of the cash shop (which they reworked) or you are being malicious. I’m guessing 1 or 2.

yuri,

I’ve seen early access games that go their entire dev cycle without adding real-cash shops. this pervasive idea that microtransactions are just an acceptable thing in any new game has me absolutely incredulated.

it doesn’t matter how long it takes to develop, putting a cash shop in an unfinished game is a bad move optics wise.

fushuan,

it doesn’t matter how long it takes to develop, putting a cash shop in an unfinished game is a bad move optics wise.

Sure, but the game already has content enough to be a good single player experience for 35€ so w/e.

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

It’s also lacking. I come back every few updates but the game isn’t very good. It’s no Torchlight 2 or Grim Dawn.

Questy, (edited ) do games w Last Epoch - Meet Diablo 4 and Path of Exile's biggest rival, an ARPG designed and built by Redditors
@Questy@lemmy.world avatar

I always marvel at how Grim Dawn isn’t in the conversation. It’s easily top tier, has no microtransactions, is single player offline, but also supports co-op multiplayer. It features a full cosmetic system that is entirely in-game with no cash shop nonsense. There are so many skills and builds with an outstanding itemization system. Robust crafting system. Repeatable end game challenge content.

Also, it is just recieving another huge free patch, and another full expansion has just been announced.

It took me forever to actually try it, I thought it was going to be janky indie stuff etc. I’m closing on 3000 hours and still dropping back in with new build themes and ideas. I paid $35 for that 3000 hours in a Steam sale.

But yea, Last Epoch is ok I guess.

Edit: a word

Edit 2: just to add since I saw a comment about multiplayer, there is a community run seasonal ladder League as well. Grim League, for those interested.

hogart,
@hogart@feddit.nu avatar

Yeah so many people have missed out on Grim Dawn. It’s a bit sad it doesn’t have multiplayer but in the grand scale of things its what a lot of people wanted with D4. Let me play Singleplayer offline! This game does it. And boy does it do it well.

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

O. It’s has full fleged multi-player

hogart,
@hogart@feddit.nu avatar

How do you go about the multiplayer part? Any private servers or how does it work?

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

You select multi-player and join a game or you can host a game. It’s the same multi-player format as Divinity Original Sin.

hogart,
@hogart@feddit.nu avatar

Uhm. Now I feel dumb :) Last I played you had to enter an ip adress for the game you wanted to join?

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

Yes. That is the Lan option only though.

Multi-player let’s you join open games or host your own game.

There is a little circle that you can select to change which you want to do before hitting multi-player.

hogart,
@hogart@feddit.nu avatar

Mind. Blown.

Minnels,

I played all current dlcs and the base game on separate occasions alone and with my friends and the game never really clicks for me. I don’t know what it is but it never got as fun as many other arpgs for me. Doubt that I will look at this new expansion as it feels I could have more fun spending my time with another game instead. Kind of weird as I have over a hundred hours and like the game genre but… Yeah.

MonkCanatella,

It’s just old. People talked about it back when it came out. POE I think gets recognized because it’s free to play (with DLC/MTX). I’ve played every ARPG under the sun and Last Epoch is one of the best I’ve ever played. It feels like the real successor to Diablo II

fushuan,

The biggest difference is that PoE gets huge expansions every 3-4 months with new content while Grim Dawn only mostly gets numeric patches. Yeah there’s a new expansion on the horizon, but it’s been a good while…

I don’t even understand the delays. They have claimed that the tools they release are the same tools they use to build out their games. Shouldn’t they already have working tools? And what really changes between the games that I can’t just use Fallout 4’s or Skyrim’s creation kit? I’ve always found this to be odd.

Chailles,
@Chailles@lemmy.world avatar

The tools are usually stripped down versions of their internal kits. At least, that’s what I’ve read on the topic. I don’t actually know whether that’s entirely true or to what extent if it is.

The other reason may also have to do with console modding. Getting that set up or whatever.

Dirk_Darkly,

After playing their games for many years, I’m not convinced their tools are working.

DrQuint,

When Bethesda launches mod support, they will do it as a Creation Platform. They don’t want mods to merely exist, they want to control its presentation.

simple, do games w Todd Howard says Starfield mod support is on the way next year

It’s really disappointing the game hasn’t released with mod support. People are making do by editing a few scripts, but full mod support would’ve helped this game so much out of the gate.

BlinkerFluid,
@BlinkerFluid@lemmy.one avatar

Yeah, modders could’ve filled it out into a full release by now.

AngrilyEatingMuffins,

it's definitely a full release. i'm like 20 hours in and just scratching the surface with no real bugs to speak of. it's just not mind-blowingly amazing and there are too many loading screens. it's fun enough to entertain me until phantom liberty drops.

all-knight-party,
@all-knight-party@kbin.cafe avatar

Agreed. Holy fuck are there so many unique quests with full voicing (at about 20 hours in). I've heard people say they aren't getting that "losing yourself accidentally seeing five different POIs", but it's definitely still there in a different package.

I get that by going to do one quest, having to stop off at other planets along the way, where I'll poke my head in and talk to whatever named NPCs I see, who'll inevitably give me a few quests, some of which lead to other places where I'll pick up other quests.

It was especially apparent with some random side quest somebody gave me in New Atlantis where I just had to go get a dead drop package from some other planet, which turned out to be the site of the Red Mile which is its own sort of arena/quest that I then enjoyed in the middle of the other quest. I've just been ping ponging around like that picking up stuff and stopping now and again to knock a few out.

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

It’s a certified Bethesda banger.

dsemy,

Man people are really entitled these days…

The game is fine, and what most people who play Bethesda RPGs expected (or even better).

Also, if I’m not mistaken, previous Beth RPGs released without official mod support and had it added later as well. Almost no game by any company has released with official mod support; almost no game even has official mod support.

BradleyUffner, do games w Todd Howard says Starfield mod support is on the way next year

By the time they release official mod support, we’ll already have it all figured out on our own.

H2207, (edited )

There’s already a script extender that’s gaining traction, so these tools will need to have some serious capabilities.

leftzero, do games w Todd Howard says Starfield mod support is on the way next year

Is he talking about trying the paid mod thing again…? Because the game’s been moddable since day 1 (or -7, if you don’t count the early access as day 1), and the nexus is already full of mods, including the script extender…

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I’m sure he’s just talking about the Creation Kit toolset. We can do script related things and add models and textures; we can’t add new locations or NPCs afaik without the toolset. Or at least, nowhere near as easily. If it can be done, I’d like to read up on that.

Ser_Salty,

He’s talking about the Creation Kit, the proper mod tools to make more complicated stuff like quest mods

leftzero,

Eh, it’s all the same 26 year old gamebryo engine, we can probably just use the Skyrim tools. Or the Morrowind ones. Hell, at this point modders have probably made their own better ones, like they made the script extender, and wrye bash, and whatnot. 🤷‍♂️

Ser_Salty,

That is not how that works.

dudewitbow,

The mods made by creation kit, and the mods made using script extenders arent the same kind of mods.

CK allows modding in custom NPCs, followers and more models, as well as modifying vanilla asset models in the game easier (part of the reason why the only thing you see in modding space are texture swaps and full model swaps) as well as quest mods. These are the types of mods you see like in skyrim that can be enabled by console as well.

Script extenders enable mods that rewrite how the game functions, be it physics, adding new interactions and such.
