I mean, this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone considering they’ve been doing the whole paid mod thing for a good while now with Skyrim and FO4.

Yeah, I kind of agree. I wish they’d make a new Quake or something, Doom is cool and all but this barely resembles it. Eternal was fun, but too goofy and campy, Doom 2016 did it perfectly.

Decided to go back to Dwarf Fortress after a long while, I’ve been basically re-learning the game and trying some !!fun!! stuff I’ve never done before. Funnily enough I think I just built my most successful fortress, outside of a really nasty tavern fight that resulted in the death of two children, one dwarf and their cat (the drunkard literally grabbed the poor sod by the tail and smashed it into a statue to death LOL), everything went rather smoothly. Lots of forgotten beasts passing through the caves, one got in while I wasn’t looking (lol) but was dispatched easily without casualties.

Thinking about building a fort on a volcano next, see if I can do some crazy magma wizardry.

It definitely has a learning curve at the start, if you’re still interested the new version has a tutorial in-game now, I can’t vouch for how good it is because I’ve never used it though. There’s also plenty of quick and easy tutorials online, I learned the basics from this one by Peridexis but it’s rather outdated by now, the wiki has some recommendations on more up-to-date ones.

I don’t even know how I feel about this. On the one hand, it’s great we’re moving away from 4 which was always a shitshow to begin with, on the other hand I have no faith whatsoever 5 is going to be even on par with 4.

Except for Nintendo, they’re still just doing what they’ve been doing for the last 20 years, releasing consoles with outdated hardware and relying on gimmicks to sell them, at this point they’re not even trying to compete anymore, Valve is a stronger competitor for Microsoft and Sony than Nintendo nowadays.

The game has like four major maps, that’s why it feels tiny compared to your average CRPG that has dozens of smaller maps to create a sense of a big diverse world.

I guess, but so the owner chose to get a refund, right? If so then that’s to be expected, if that’s the case then I don’t see what the fuzz is about. Unless the refund was forced onto the customer.

Honestly this whole thing was a massive disappointment, 30+ announcements and of those only 4 new games while everything else were minor (often meaningless) updates and release dates of early access games. Maybe it’s time these game showcases went away as a whole, they’re never good.

Honestly I doubt this is going to change how games are made, I’ve seen this one opinion floating around that if this thing goes forward only the wording on the marketing will change and knowing these companies I agree. Products will become services, ownership to leasing, buying to subscribing and so on.

Free and without bullshit is a tough ask, you’re not gonna find many games like that. I do have a few recommendations though:

• Mindustry
• Shattered Pixel Dungeon
• Endless Sky
• Pathos

You could also download Retroarch and some roms, it would require some setup but once done it works like a charm.

Got the two DLCs for Melvor and that’s probably that. Although I’ve been eyeing both Oxygen Not Included and Blood West ngl.

Township does seem rather tacked on I agree, outside of the tasks there isn’t much to do and it doesn’t reward you enough to justify the money sink. Quite frankly, there’s a lot in the game that seems rather pointless outside of getting to lvl 99 (120 with DLC), but I guess that’s the point.

In Japan PCs always had this weird association with porn, and Japan wouldn’t be Japan without all the antiquated traditionalism, so PCs fell out of favor for a while. Now that they’ve noticed PC as a gaming platform prints money in ludicrous amounts they’ve started changing their minds… So it’s a matter of time until the boomer execs get a stroke or something and younger people take their jobs, really.

Weird, considering how low quality Japanese porn games usually are, and how big the porn industry in Japan generally is.

This is precisely the reason why though, in Japan porn games have existed since the introduction of the home computer and they flourished because of the lack product standards in the platform. With the release of the Famicon, consoles started getting really popular to the point where many devs and consumers stopped buying PCs for gaming, and since Nintendo (among others) enforced strict standards porn games obviously weren’t allowed on their platforms. After a while, because of this shift most games available on PC were Visual Novels, many of them having porn in it in some form or another, so the platform got increasingly associated with pornography and a stigma was created.

Dredge comes to mind. It’s a nice game and all, but outside of the two endings (which are basically a choose left or right situation) you see pretty much everything there’s to see in a single playthrough.

I love Doom 2, it’s one of my favorite shooters in part to it’s modding community. The official episodes are all fine and dandy, but some of the megawads people have made in the past truly elevate the game to a whole new level. Case in point, Eviternity 2 is absolutely amazing.

Let’s say the PC doesn’t count and you aren’t taking into account backwards compatibility, emulation, online play, homebrew games, and the cost/availability of games.

I’d rather quit gaming altogether at that point.

That’s a tricky one, but if I had to pick, maybe Ashley from Mass Effect. She’s very insubordinate and disrespectful towards you, I hate her speciesism and (fittingly enough) she’s a Bible thumping Christian, whenever she opens her mouth I wish I could eject her through the airlock. It doesn’t help that you can’t deny her joining the team or even kick her out, safe to say that whenever I get to Virmire I always kill her without even thinking twice.

I don’t always play female characters, but I can think of a few reasons:

• With rare exceptions I just prefer how the female characters look, be it prettier or cuter, they usually have way better character customization than the male counterparts.
• Female clothing and equipment in games also just look more stylish and flamboyant, especially in Japanese ones.
• And honestly I just like playing as someone different from me, if I can’t choose to be an alien or whatever, then the next best thing is a woman.
