fushuan,

Yeah elden ring SotA, I finished all the bosses and all the content but 1 optional boss on saturday, and the last boss yesterday. Good dlc but the balancing is kinda whacky and is has the typical complainers about difficulty, the typical defenders that have not finished the dlc, and then people that have done all bosses that know that the last boss is the most overtuned piece of shit to be ever crafted in ER. The other optional hard boss (bottom right) is also kinda stupid but it’s optional and it does give you SOME breathing room, but the last one is just completely un enjoyable.

fushuan,

Because elden ring lags and struggles to keep fps at 60 sometimes with a 3080, why even try to go higher. I’d also saybthay playing ultra wide gives a vision advantage and PvP and invaders being a thing I’d prefer not.

fushuan,

It’s because their competitor does the same, see? Since few people purchase the mtx they rise prices to compensate. Please ignore the 70$ price tag, thanks.

fushuan,

but… this is not the math you see at STEM, this is the math you see at high school at best. There’s no deeper meaning in actual STEM math problems, they are way too abstract or specific. There’s no watermelons, it’s just some a, b, n1, nk… maybe some physics formulas that apply to velocity, mass… I read 0 problems in my uni math and physics courses where they used real world examples.

I see your point but that’s for high schoolers, not STEM students or alumnus.

fushuan,

Hack and slash through hordes of enemies, it’s kindnof the point of the game.

fushuan,

Maybe because those terms are confusing. Is dark souls an arpg or a jrpg? Or both? I know that jrpg is a specific genre of Japanese games, but it’s still confusing. Are final fantasy games jrpgs? Kingdom hearts? Xenoblade?

It’s just easier to say RPG and not enter in a pedantic war with the community.

fushuan,

I agree, honestly. I also like specifications, but I don’t like the game to be inaccurately specified. I feel that it’s better if an umbrella term is used in the title instead of a more specific fake one, and then a short description describes how the game is played or what kind of experience I should expect in several words, instead of a single term. That, alongside screenshots, let’s plays, and all sort of resources are plenty help to decide if I should buy a game or not.

RPG is used for games where you take the role of a character, and it should somewhat tell the story of either the character or the world around it. That alone differentiates some games from others like rocket league or fifa, where there’s no story, you don’t take the role of nobody that matters, what matters is the gameplay.

Hack&slash was a term used for games where you killed tons of monsters with weapons, and then Diablo started using the ARPG term to say that besides killing tons of monsters, you also get to enjoy a story in a particular ambiance. Dark Souls games also fit the description where it’s more about the action than reading, but feel like a completely different genre, right? no isometric, itemisation is vastly different, the gameplay loop is completely different… This is why just reading ARPG means nothing to me nowadays, I have to dig into the description anyway.

Another example, is “Ys origins” an ARPG or a JRPG? both? It has fast paced combat where you kill tons of mobs and a story, but it has a very japanese style, however, JRPGs are being known for having to manage a party and usually turn based combat, sooo? idk, a 3 line paragraph and 3 5 second clips would be much better than just a term for me.

Sorry for the late response btw, I just forgot lol.

fushuan,

Path of Exile! I began with a minion sacrifice build, and while it’s good and I’ve killed all the major basic bosses sustain is hurting so I swapped into a BAMA build, and let me tell you haters of the Maw build, it clears faster than Bama because ignite is broken in Poe.

fushuan,

The game is designed so they feel like a limited resource, so that you don’t rely on them. The game is so much more enjoyable when both wakestones and ferrystones are a limited resource, you learn of carts, having to get away from the cart when fighting goblins in the way, fighting accordingly and avoiding npc deaths… Of course they felt limited in the first 20 hours, they are supposed to be a precious resource.

Revivas and teleports on key moments feel way better than having them around, honestly.

I don’t really get how you are disappointed in Capcom about the mtx, when is not something new at all about their products to offer mtx revivals and such. You can be against it of course but to be disappointed because it’s something new? It’s not.

fushuan,

“how many companions you have”

??? Renting companions of your level has always been free, they only cost rift crystals if they are higher than you. Killing strong monsters and getting your pawn rented give plenty resources.

The character creation tome is easy to get, idk what to tell you.

If you want to throw horseshit to a wall, not this one please. If you had played the game you wouldn’t have even mentioned half of what you did.

fushuan,

Rift crystals are an in game currency, you don’t need to pay money for it! I’ve been recruiting companions 1-4 lvls above me all the time, I’m lvls 30 now, with the in game currency. The higher the pawn is you get less exp so it’s not something that you should do anyway.

Imagine thinking that renting a LVL 200 companion is core gameplay. Geez…

This game is an improvement over the first one in almost all sides, with great content. It’s stupid reading all this takes from people that clearly have not played it, let alone the original.

And before you mention the eternal ferrystone from the original, that came with the expansion, not the release.

fushuan,

I’m gonna ignore all that stuff you extrapolated from my strawman.

Anyway, of course I’m enjoying it! I loved the original and this is the same and more. This is a great game with BS corporate microtransactions sprinkled in. I agree that the MTXs are BS, but saying that the game was designed around baiting the player into using them outs you as someone that wouldn’t enjoy the first one nor the intended gameplay, so it’s kinda pointless dosucssing further.

Have fun lying to yourself about the intended mechanics I guess.

fushuan,

Brothers, a tale of two sons. It’s a 2h ish long story, really good.

fushuan,

This sounds really cool. It would be cool if it could work with other services like Google fit or other devices that count steps so that we can go out without phone and it would still count those steps after syncing.

I’d be willing to pay for this feature, although I get that it feels like a post release extra.

Really cool, I’ll sign up probably.

fushuan,

I guessed as much, it doesn’t matter if the game can pull step data from tons of sources if it doesn’t do something worthwhile with it haha!

I hope my bug reports are worth the hassle <3

fushuan,

That would be paying with your personal information, so it’s still a paywall.

fushuan,

Windows has 3 package managers. Chocolatey and scoop are third party while winget ia supported by Microsoft. There’s even a 3rd party made winget gui that interacts with all package managers. BTW, you can download windows store apps through the package manager, and shocker, it installs faster then from the store.

So yeah, having nvidia drivers through any of the package managers would be cool.

fushuan,

Considering that the game is done in unity, the graphics looking like a $5 asset pack from the Unreal store sounds like praise to me, given that they have custom made all the models now.

fushuan,

As bizarre as someone saying that incompetence and thoughtlessness shine through everywhere.

fushuan,

I have not looked it up but I do recall proton being a thing way before the steam console was.

Okay I looked it up before posting. The deck was released in 2022 and the initial release of proton was on 2018. Steam has had native clients for Linux and native Linux support for dota for ages too.

It’s true that their recent big push is because of the handheld but it’s also true that they have been pushing for gaming on Linux since way before.

fushuan,

You are absolutely right, I forgot about it. Still, this shows that they have been pushing for popularizing Linux (for their own devices, sure, but in exchange benefiting everybody else) far longer. As any company, avoiding blind trust is advice but they are kinda cool.

fushuan,

Their os is based on Linux, every tool they develop and improve can be used in any other Linux systems. I’m not calling them saviours of gaming, I’m happy that they improved the Linux gaming experience by a fuckton for everyone not only the people using their products.

Linux has always been a thing, gaming on Linux is what was not, and steam has always had support for it, I remember playing native Linux dota back in 2015 ish on uni.

I’ve been playing several games installed through steam offline, so idk about them locking games under drm. For example, stardew valley, grim dawn. Beside that, most other games I play have an online component so I would need to authenticate in some form anyway, like path of exile, last epoch.

They are not saviours, but the competition is so bad that it’s not strange for people to see the difference.

30% seems a lot yeah but I’m not discussing that, I’m talking about them being pro Linux as a policy way before the deck.

fushuan,

Well, my pc could barely run in in windows so the performance was basically the same haha. I tried it some years later and it ran perfectly.

fushuan,

Eh, depends. The laptop was not that good by any means, sure, but dota has always been the most demanding moba out of the competition, by far (league/hots). But yeah, then I got a proper desktop and it ran flawlessly ever since.

fushuan,

Isn’t MTG quite profitable? I don’t think they will sell all of wotc.

fushuan,

Hasbro owns wotc, wotc owns dnd. Hasbro can’t sell dnd, they would need to sell wotc and that’s not a good move because MTG is a money making machine afaik. If anything Hasbro could order wotc to sell dnd, but it would be wotc selling it.

fushuan,

Cool. I was explaining that hasbro and wotc are the same thing for this matter. They were apparently confused. Idk why you are making this point when I was clarifying them their confusion.

fushuan,

It’s a game. They are cancelling the game about the film series.

fushuan,

They are separate universes based on the common theme apparently, so there’s no need to play 1 to enjoy 2, technically. However, 1 is fucking great so you lose nothing. It’s a monster hunter with dark souls theme in a hard medieval setting. If that didn’t sell you on the franchise nothing will :)

fushuan,

Monster hunter with a dark souls theme and a hard medieval setting. Need I say more?

fushuan,

Sure, but this post is not about 7/10 games on release, it’s about 7/10 games now vs their perception now.

fushuan,

The user doesn’t send several different resolutions of video, the streamer just sends the source, and once thay have enough viewers, twitch reduces the resolution on their side so the viewer can choose either quality.

fushuan,

Maybe then watch better streams. I usually watch streamers play games while talking to the chat or commenting on the gameplay, while I play a similar game. It’s entertaining.

fushuan,

Lmao, good luck finding a good mouse that is also big enough. I’m 1.93 with comparable hands, and the typical razer trinity sized mouses are too small, and bigger mouses are just worse.

I guess I got used to the fingertip grip, it isn’t tiring at all after spending the whole day working on a PC and the remainder gaming with the same mouse.

BTW, when gaming sometimes I don’t even move the hand, only the fingers

fushuan,

I honestly don’t care if others see my skin. I bought it for me. In fact I’m super against people using skins that are visually confusing in league and such, and although they will never implement it I wish for a skins off mods where I see the base model of enemies, always.

fushuan,

Dunno, the story of sun wukong has been widely adapted over all of media in diverse ways. Dragon ball & songoku is the most known one maybe, but there’s tons of wukong adaptations in games, the trend is not recent at all. It’s a champion in League too. He exist in Dota2…

Cool character with a cool story.

fushuan,

Oh boy, the new zeldas’ have tons of collectibles and they don’t feel special at all. The fact that you have a menu telling you how many you got makes it worse.

Woodland critter counter

Poe counter

Shrine counter

Stable points

Fall challenges

And so on. It began as fun and as I progressed I started getting sidetracked and by the end it just wasn’t as fun anymore. The new zelda lack focus. And it’s intentional too, I just hate that.

fushuan,

Armor what? xD

I beat the game with a shiny 12 in amor.

fushuan, (edited )

I recall that it was added automatically to my library, as a separate game. But it shared save game files.

fushuan,

I’m telling this because I assume you have finished the game: Gortash is related to Karlach’s backstory so you can get some hints from before, and Orin is related to Dark Urge’s backstory so yeah, same.

fushuan,

But it’s not something less, it’s something less, in your device. That’s the distinction.

If the console can’t handle anything better and is that expensive to port over, then you should simply not port your game over to it

If enough people want to play it on the switch, the investment is worth it.

I thought that’s how markets are supposed to work, no?

Well, if it were up to you maybe, but if there’s enough people that will buy it just to play it on the switch, then the markets are working as intended.

fushuan,

That’s for the development company to decide. If its profitable they will keep releasing because there’s a market of people that want to play the game and only have a switch. Mortal Kombat is a multiplayer game that you play for the combat, not the graphics. You can play it for the graphics but fighting games fans don’t really, so if the game runs on the switch they open up to a huge extra market.

fushuan,

That’s the issue though, there’s nothing to grind.

fushuan,

Maybe it’s the fact that Sony has a huge history of creating exclusives for its console, that people now don’t give a fuck that Sony won’t get a game. That’s what it gets for crying wolf so long.

The Weekly 'What are you playing?' Discussion - 18-09-2023 (lemmy.world) angielski

Have you been spending hours trying to pass a level? Or maybe you are completely addicted to a newly bought game. Do you have a question about a game or would like to share something else? In the Weekly Discussion Thread, you can do it all!...

fushuan,

the case about the game being interactive fiction instead of a “game” game

Way to shit all of the visual novel games not being games ins a single sentence.

fushuan,

After that combat encounter I just shoot him from a distance. Free exp!

fushuan,

She’s ultra authoritarian, for you to reach that dialogue option she knows you have something she desires, and she is a literal god while you are not even lvl 15, god killing is lvl 20 stuff, not 12 which is the cap, of course that she will kill you and grab what’s theirs instead of letting you go, wtf?
