Buggy, incomplete, kind of a mess, but absolutely playable if you have a sufficient tolerance for jank.
While it’s for sure a ways away from being the game that was promised, what’s there is still one of the most unique and ambitious gaming experiences you can ever have.
For all intent and purposes. 4.0 has been by far the most stable release yet. And that is saying something since the player cap is 500 and now has a new star system.
The new Pyro soundtrack is amazing and if you haven’t listen to Pedro’s work I would recommend to do so.
There are some dumb bugs that qa and the ptu should have found and smashed but they (cig) dragged their feet with 3.24 and server meshing this year IMO.
To be fair the “most stable release yet” label is applied to almost every patch by star citizen fans.
Just take a look at any reddit thread (let alone the fan forum) and for every patch you having something along the lines of “perfectly stable” or “best AI I’ve ever encountered” or “a monumental achievement”.
No, it’s horrific. And the reason why is evident in what the previous commenter said.
The most expensive “package” costs $48000. You just don’t see it till you already spend like $10k on the game. They have two additional hidden stores that unlock when you spend money on the game already. The commenter above probably didn’t see those two stores and only knows about the “reasonable” pricing.
They replaced the art later, but shouldn’t the bar be high like this? Otherwise, the caution won’t be there. It also could be abused, like games only getting adjusted post-launch if a certain measure of success hits. Plus the final product is not the only part of matters in the was-AI-used discussion, it is also about the process. If AI is the product of stolen human artwork being fed into a machine, and then that machine is used during creation, then AI has been used in the process that led to the final product no less than the concept art that may not be seen in game but was important in steering the ship.
Maybe someone can share their thoughts though. I’m still formulating mine and this is where I am at the moment.
You laugh, but AI is a pretty good fit for EA. Repeatedly churning out new iterations of the same exact thing over and over every year, with the roster changed and the art fucked about with a tiny irrelevant amount? Yup
