newthrowaway20, w Insiders Say PlayStation’s Live Service Pivot May Not Be Going Well

It is baffling why Sony thinks studios who are known for their single player story driven games will all the sudden be rock stars at GAAS model games. No matter how it turns out, you’ve already got a dedicated fan base for these companies expecting a single player story driven game. These types of gamers have no interest whatsoever in micro transaction riddled online experiences. And by diverting developers away from single player content towards GAAS content, they’ll make worse single player games and half hearted multiplayer online games.

krigo666, w Counter-Strike 2 Players Express Disappointment as Many of CS:GO's Key Features Disappear

Actually this maybe should have been named Counter-Strike 3. 1 was the original based on HL1, 2 is the Source version, and this should be 3. CS:GO is a variant of Source version with different gaming modes. I wonder if a GO version of this new CS will appear.

I do miss the FireArms mod of CS1.

“Walked right into that UC ambush, same as us and that thief over there.”

“That’s Solomon Freestar! The true High King of Skyrim!”

And the dragons are just space ships and the souls you absorb are just… uh… radiation I guess from damaging the reactor. Or the magic space civilization from Starfield originated from here, so that’s why everyone has magic.

I’m not backing down from the space ship dragons though, that part is just brilliant.

sorrybookbroke,

“Spaceships are dragons” Buddy we all know you’re just trying to make an excuse for your vore mod.

It’s been out longer and has improved over time. I’d wait until Starfield has been out for about the same length of time, see if things even out or continue to trend down.

What needs improvement in Starfield, though, isn’t likely to actually be improved. Can’t even think of a time where a game’s story was re-written over time to be better.

FluorideMind,

Eh it’s pretty standard beth game. It’ll be a great platform for mods to build on.

CarbonatedPastaSauce, w Class Overhaul Trailer - Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

Is this game any better now? I played it on release but very quickly ran out of stuff to do. It seemed quite unfinished at the time.

junezephier,

Well, this class overhaul is one of the biggest things they’ll have done. Crafting is in and helps a lot. They’ve also worked out most of the bugs, and if i remember correctly, you can play solo now?

echo64, w 15th Anniversary chat with Nightdive Studios – games preservation, DRM-free approach, and our shared memories

As much as I like Nightdive for what they do, I have a hard time going all in on the idea that they are doing something good for game preservation. They certainly do help bring things that have been lost to time back for a while, but if we take a quote from the interview

As technology advances those requirements become more and more difficult to acquire or emulate making some video games unplayable. As an art form this is unacceptable - years of collective time spent by artists, designers, and programmers should never be lost. These games can never be played again, but more importantly we can never learn from them.

All of Nightdive’s remasters are going to fall to this exact fate, technology marches on, their releases stop working natively, require some level of emulation, and ultimately get lost to time.

It would be different if they open sourced their remasters, but understably they are probably restricted from doing so.

It’s not really game preservation. For many of these titles, it’s just one last hurrarh.

2xsaiko,
@2xsaiko@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

They do open-source the code at least for some: github.com/NightDive-Studio/

distantsounds, w Starfield Is Bethesda's Lowest-Rated Game On Steam

It’s just a clunky reskin of fo4 with no depth. I’ve put about 50 hrs in at this point & will probably continue for a bit because it’s a comforting loot cycle that pleases my lizard brain. It really lacks the feeling exploration possibilities that Skyrim & fallout worlds have. The bugs, UI, bland emptiness, and shit tier maps are why I wouldn’t recommend…but is a decent time kill if you’ve enjoyed their previous games

Kaldo,
@Kaldo@kbin.social avatar

Same, I pirated it to give it a try, put in a few dozen hours to make sure I'm not missing anything but left pretty disappointed tbh. It has a strong interesting opening but the more you try to get into the nitty gritty details, the more shallow and flawed the game becomes until you're just doing chores for the sake of it. Some people find enjoyment in these chores but it ain't me, maybe in a few years it becomes better. I got phantom liberty instead and am having a blast there instead

DarkThoughts,

Wut? The beginning is easily the worst part of the game.

Kaldo,
@Kaldo@kbin.social avatar

When I say opening / beginning I don't mean the 20 minutes of prologue, I mean the first ~5 hours of game showing new mechanics and worlds to you, making the illusion that there's lot of unique fun content to do. Eventually it all started to look like same formulaic shallow crap to me and the game didn't live up to that initial impression of freedom, exploration and progression, it's half baked in everything.

DarkThoughts,

The game didn't open up for me until about 8-10 hours in and felt really weird and restricted during that time. No idea what impression of freedom, exploration and progression you're talking about here because the beginning does not give you anything like that at all with how it makes you follow the very boring main quest.

CaptainEffort,

Same happened to me, I pirated it to try it out and after an hour or two I got bored and called it quits. I returned to it once more but after maybe 5 hours I just uninstalled it.

Klystron,

Verbatim my opinion. There’s nothing enjoyable here folks unless you like turning off your brain, fast travelling to planets and 100% search missions.

Years of loading screens

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

Poor.

Klystron,

I was actually pretty impressed with the loading, especially after coming from bg3. It was pretty much instant for me.

123,

Coming from bg3, I had the opposite opinion. BG3 loading screens take a while but it doesnt load very much unless your loading saves a lot. With Starfield you get hit with a small loading screen constantly like when transitioning in/out of ships, buildings, planets, etc.

Klystron,

I save scum like a mother so bg3 was pretty painful to get through. Starfield was a breath of fresh air.

ech,

For me it’s not the speed, but the quantity. Docking? Loading screen. Launching off planet? Loading screen. Changing planet? Loading screen. Landing on the same planet? Loading screen. The only solution is to fast travel everywhere in an “immersive” space sim RPG. NMS and Elite:Dangerous have solved this issue. Bethesda needs to get with the times already.
