Toribash is quite possibly the best competitive fighting game I have ever played due to it’s unique method of controlling your actions. It’s almost entirely unheard of tho.

TwilightVulpine,

Toribash is an indie classic. It was mentioned fairly often among indie fans around the time of Cave Story's rise. But back then there weren't so many indie fans.

The arcade games in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Triple Triad from Final Fantasy VIII

Chocobo Hot and Cold, & Tetra Master from Final Fantasy IX

Marathon Infinity - The whole Marathon trilogy did a lot for defining the story-driven FPS (as did System Shock), but since the first and last title were Mac only for years, they didn’t get the credit they deserved among the pantheon of FPS greats.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP - For years, whenever someone asked me what the must-have game was for iOS, this was always my answer. It shows up on a fair number of iOS lists, but doesn’t get the same level of recognition on PC. One of the most well-crafted experiences ever.

Clash at Demonhead - Despite having an Easter egg in Scott Pilgrim, this NES game is largely forgotten. It was one of my favorites in my youth and I am always surprised by how few people have played it, let alone finished it.

“The coin game” has some of the best designed minigames ive ever seen!

The game is essentially just a collection of minigames, but it is put together incredibly well

CosmicCleric, do games w Many players have become "patient gamers". What are games people might miss out on by waiting for sales?
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

I think the rare missed game via patience is very worth the ability for all of us to keep pressure on game companies to keep gaming prices down/lower, by waiting for sales/out-of-early-access, etc.

Voting with your wallet does work sometimes.

Katana314,

I get that to some degree, but also look at it this way.

Developer A spends 10 years and lots of people’s time developing a heartfelt, memorable game, and prices it at $25 - keeping it at that price no matter what changes. Meanwhile, Developer B develops dozens of cheap games chasing crummy junk trends, and charges $60 initially for them, and discounting them down to $10 after two months. Theoretically, Developer A should deserve more of their money. But, many people will often see “83% off” and go for Developer B, even though the game refusing discounts is worth far more of people’s time.

I do think some people only really focus their wallet-voting in one direction. It should be not just avoiding expenditure on bad games, but also volunteering it on good games.

I definitely agree on purchasing good games, but only as long as they’re reasonably priced.

BlackEco, do gaming w What does everyone think about The Finals?
@BlackEco@lemmy.blackeco.com avatar

I only played a couple hours yesterday, something like 5 games.

I like the gameplay: it’s relatively simple and for once my skills are not too shitty.

It seem to require quite a bit of cooperation and unfortunately, as I don’t have my group of friends anymore, I ended playing with randos which led to inconsistent games: one game I had a great team, the other we were too scattered to win.

Finally, I have to play a little bit more to form an opinion, but I’m afraid that the gameplay will be a bit too repetitive for me.

soviettaters,

Different playstyles can be fun and I’m doing much better than I expected with crossplay solo-queue

ConSumo is an amazing minigame in Bully. It’s the standard “eat thing to get bigger” type game but it’s just done really well.

YuzuDrink, do gaming w What difficult games/game challenges did you give up on?
@YuzuDrink@beehaw.org avatar

I tried replaying the Kingdom Hearts games leading up to playing KH3. Got all the way to the final boss sequence in KH1, but I just couldn’t get past the second phase, and I didn’t have any good saves for going back and leveling up. Gave up. Already beat it as a kid when it first came out. No need to kill myself in my late-30s for it.

I don’t have a current console gen (if you discard the Nintendo Switch) but I don’t want to skip it, I want a PS5 but granted I am not sure I’d get it if it wasn’t retro compatible with the huge backlog of PS4 games that I have… Even the Xbox with the game pass is feasible to me (something impossible to think for me, I have always been a Sony and Nintendo user).

rhacer, do edc w Backpack recommendations?

My daughter is 14. My Timbuk2 pack is several years older than she is. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Thorny_Insight, do edc w Backpack recommendations?

I’m not sure if this is too military for you but Savotta Jääkäri S seems to match your description for the most part.

There’s one big pocket, smaller on in the inside of the lid and a separator for drink bladder that also functions as laptop pocket but doesn’t take away any space if you choose not to use it.

DeepChill,

I don’t mind the military look of that one at all. I just browsed the site and found an even more basic one that caught my eye. I’m assuming you have a bag from this company? The material is pretty good? It looks like it should be pretty durable considering their target demographic.

https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/savotta-backpack-202-ljk-daypack/30719

Thorny_Insight, (edited )

Varusteleka is a Finnish military surplus store. They have their own “Särmä” product line aswell but other than that they’re just a retailer. Savotta, however - the manufacturer of the backpack I linked, is a very well known and highly appreciated Finnish military/hiking gear manufacturer that makes gear for the Finnish Defence Forces aswell. Their quality is absolutely top notch. I have both, Jääkäri S and Jääkäri L backpacks among their other gear aswell.

What comes to that specific online store; the descriptions actually are honest. If the product is shit it says so in the description. I’ve seen examples of that before and especially the Finnish descriptions are sometimes hilarious. I’ve bought a ton of stuff from there and everything has met or exceed my expectations.

Edit: You’re probably talking about the 202 LJK Daypack. It’ll last two lifetimes.

DeepChill,

Oh, ok. I like the pic with the bag full of rocks. I’m not that hard on the equipment but it’s nice to know the materials are that strong… if it’s not just marketing wank.
