You’re probably right. I like RPGs and I love science fiction, but for some reason I just can’t get into Cyberpunk. You’d think I’d enjoy it but nope. The story just doesn’t captivate me and there isn’t much to do outside of the campaign, so…

From my understanding, this is an optimized method of raytracing. We could expect to see better looks and better performance with each iteration of raytracing. Especially since it’s a relatively new technology for games.

The new AI-based denoiser probably uses the tensor cores which is severely underutilized on gaming, thus netting extra performance seemingly out of thin air. One of the main criticism of the new Nvidia cards was how much silicon area they use for those RT and AI cores which could’ve been used to improve performance of traditional rendering had Nvidia used the area for standard GPU cores instead. Now it seems Nvidia finally have more ways to utilize those silicon for gaming, though it’s not clear whether they’re finally fully utilized yet (there were reports about how the tensor cores only have 1% utilization even with DLSS frame generation turned on).

In best case, I will play the game after the first patch after 2.0 + PL. Good that I’m still in my first playthrough in Baldurs Gate 3. So if the patch comes around the weekend of the 6th of October, I should be fine.

Remember that the free version of Unity is completely free and no money gets sent to Unity. Boycotting all Unity games only hurts the devs, except when you know the game was made with a Pro version

If devs realise people don’t want to support unity, and enough people vote with there wallets, they move to something else. Yes it might suck for some devs who can’t/won’t move but then thats there choice, just like it’s my choice to say screw unity!

Did they ever add player reflections?
It’s so annoying waking around all these shiny surfaces, every light bouncing just right, yet be a complete ghost.

Yeah, anything with Ray tracing will have player reflections. You usually don’t see them because they’re faking ray tracing by baking the light bounces when the scene first loads

Cyberpunk doesn’t/didn’t by default though.
Last I checked you could kind of enable them in a config file, but the model used doesn’t have a head so your reflections are that of a headless V.

Unless they fixed it, you were either a ghost/vampire or a headless chicken.
Pretty jank when you carry a corpse and the dead guy you carry has this perfect reflection in glass panes and puddles or whatnot but you’re just inexistant.

You can have missing objects with real ray tracing. Like the player object itself generally doesn’t need to be rendered so it might not even be added to the scene. Unless the player is looking down. If their arms are holding a gun or reloading, it might just be disembodied arms if you could move the camera to see it from another angle.

Or, different game, but in GT7, the ray tracing doesn’t include vehicles’ self reflections. Which is probably an optimization because every reflection ray trivially intersects with the object it is reflecting from, so it makes sense to skip the reflecting object, but then you miss cases where it should be reflecting another part of itself.

Yea I know but it’s still a bit lame.
You can enable an option to add the first person player model to Ray tracing, but it doesn’t have a head (on purpose so it didn’t clip in the first person camera), so you have decapitated reflections.
Same reason the player shadows are janky, first person models are often like that. You gotta adjust it so it looks good in first person but then it’s all weird in third person.
There’s technically a third person model, but it’s probably not animated, so… yea maybe some day.

Nah - I think I’ll enjoy it on my old character, if that’s all right with them.

Crazy to think I’d just spend another 100 hours redoing missions and revisiting old content for new progression systems.

I’m happy the game is finally finished, but it’s kind of insulting to tell us to go back and “play it all again, it’s finally ready”.

I think you’re taking this wrong. They’re saying you can play it all again and the experience will be somewhat different with the new systems. They are saying you’re a loser if you don’t or whatever. Basically, they’re saying the update effects the existing game too, not just the DLC.

Maybe it’s because they view playing the game differently than you do. Personally I see it as a game you can ‘run’, sort of like a rogue-like. There’s different ways to execute missions, a few different ways to interact and varied builds for a character. I’ve played the game twice now, once as a corpo gun slinger and once as a street kid hacker. For this update I’m doing a nomad ninja.

For a new player. How long into the game until the expansion starts?

played the OG version on release. there is a “point of no return” message for the end of the game. If you complete game or save after that point and reopen that save you’re locked into that ending based on what you did prior to crossing the point of no return.

so the playable sections all come before this — so if you missed something after completing you can reload your “Meet [Person] At Embers Bar” save (the point of no return) — go do it with your endgame character and then optionally revisit the final section if you like.

from what I gather on loading up an old save after this patch you’ll have to re spec your character and may have missed minor things, but can start all the new content from your …Embers save.

From a new player perspective you can choose to do the DLC or the vanilla game at any order or at any point- gated by your character level and progression, similar to how Fallout DLC works.

skyrim also had funny bugs at launch but people only care about the majority of bugs when they've already decided game bad

It was only broken on console. PC was never broken. The issues PC had were all minor and were mostly addressed very quickly.

It’s weird how much people’s experience varied. There are enough people saying it was very broken and enough that say it was fine that I believe both groups. Hopefully someone figures out what it is about people’s machines, play styles, or something else that gave such different experiences.

I waited until early this year to play and it was an awesome experience.

To me for example was always fine. I got it on launch day and with my PC I experienced very minor issues and almost no crash (maybe one if I remember correctly) and, even if it wasn’t the game CD Project Red marketing department had led us to believe, it was a nice and enjoyable experience for me.

I mount an i9-9900k with an Asus motherboard and a 3070 dual fan, I don’t recall the precise model right now; not a fancy build as I use a very old case and air cooling, but it gets the job done for a 1440 experience at circa 45 FPS.

Now I’m curious to test this 2.0 patch, I’m watching my brother playing on his PC right now and, with a 1070, he’s still getting good performances and the game mechanics look nice! The skill trees are really interesting, I can’t wait to try it out myself!

Yeah, it really depended on what platform you played it on. I played on Stadia, and while it was buggy, it was at least stable. No crashing, but a lot of broken quest lines and T-posing NPCs. But PS4/Xbox One players had a lot of issues because the hardware just couldn't handle the game.

Poor decision-making from CDPR's execs on that one. They should've just cancelled the older-gen versions of the game, but instead they wanted to rush it out the door to take advantage of the new Covid market, and because a lot of people were still having trouble getting their hands on PS5s/Xbox Series systems. So they got absolutely shafted, unfortunately.

Also, FFXIV has been great for a long time now I think… NMS had more incremental updates with improvements for longer I guess. Maybe that’s why that’s the first thing on my mind when I think of any game redeemimg themselves.

Nevertheless still an amazing improvement on FFXIV.

I’m really excited to play with all these changes. I have just shy of 200 hours for 2 playthroughs, and virtually every change they’ve made here seems like it’ll improve things a lot.

So I actually tried it again last night.

My partner and I had finally gotten around to watching EdgeRunners and had heard that the game had improved quite a bit. Anyway so I have the thing install over dinner and sit down to play for a couple of hours before bed. I start a new game since you can’t just jump in after being away for months right. I load up a new character start doing the intro and instantly am reminded of why I disliked the game. The intro is incredibly rushed and all of your choices don’t matter. I bugged out in the middle of conversations at least 2 different times where I was unable to move my character and no dialogue was presented. The combat is boring and uninspired. My character would consistently load in T posing to areas. Characters would suddenly stop moving their mouths during conversations. And for a game meant to be open world the game was really really insitent that I play their dumb linear story that is absolutely fucking full of these damn trains-that-look-like-car-rides.

Idk guys I think it’s the same game with the same core design flaws. Sure it’s probably gotten a face lift but it sure as hell doesn’t play any different than it did a year ago

Ah. I don’t think they can explicitly block playing from HDD, so you still can but YMMV, and I wouldn’t recommend it.
