NotMyOldRedditName, do games w I make games and this literally happened to me this morning

I’ve had Google charge me $0.01 before for firebase usage.

They really should have waited until I owed more since that cost them money.

rainman,

Once a month I’d have to pay a few pennies to Google for our cloud use at a school district I worked for. It always baffled me!

NotMyOldRedditName,

They should almost just make it so the blaze plan of firebase or other cloud services has a $1 non refundable pre-payment so they can just whittle away at the pennies instead of getting charged processing/transaction fees on a $0.01 transaction. Tops up to $1 if it goes to $0

I think people would pay $1 to enable the paid plans. If you’re going that far, you’re getting $1 of use out of it.

ByteOnBikes,

On my personal AWS account, Im paying them 0.17 cents a month.

I wonder if they pay a fee.

NotMyOldRedditName,

They’re bigger so it’s hard to know, but it’s usually something like 2.9% + 10c a transaction.

At their scale though who knows

szczuroarturo,

Only in us tho. I think eu has it set to percantage only.

SkaveRat,

Nope. Just depends on the processor

boonhet,

This might’ve changed but 10 years ago the small shop next to my school said they wouldn’t allow card payments of under 1 EUR because they’d be losing money. In Estonia

kamen,

0.17 cents

So is that less than a cent or is it 17 cents? If it’s the former, I don’t think it’s even possible to make a transaction that small.

Pretty sure Minecraft was the most profitable game of all time.

And you can be that reductive for pretty much all games. Run right and jump on mushrooms. Watch shapes rotate and fall. Punch cubes. Three of the other most profitable games of all time.

ech,

Minecraft is the highest selling game (beating out GTA V by 110 million units sold source), but it’s not the most profitable. GTA does have it beat there ($9.9 billion vs $3.3 billion). Though CoD has them both beat at $31 billion (source).

havokdj,

CoD as a FRANCHISE beats them both, but you have to keep in mind that metric for GTA V and Minecraft are indeed, for single video games.

ech,

That’s true (to be even more precise, the GTA metric is also for the franchise…which GTAV makes up $8.5 billion of >.>). How about Candy Crush at $20 billion?

Kolanaki, do gaming w Oh trust me. I know your frustration better than you do.

I’d say that video games have the most asexual representation of all forms of media.

There are too many games to care about the tiny amount of them that aren’t available on steam.

GoodEye8,

There are so many games that I don’t even care about all the games available on Steam (that I’d be willing to play). We have so many games coming out that I’d have to play game for a living to play all the games I want to play, and even then I’m not 100% sure I’d be able to play everything I’d be open to play. I have multiple games that I’ve purchased and installed thinking “I’ll get to them soon enough” and they’re just taking drive space. I also have multiple games on my wishlist that are “waiting for a discount” but I’m probably never going to pick them up because actually they’re waiting for my backlog to clear and it will never clear.

Does it suck that Alan Wake is Epic exclusive. Sure. Does it really matter to me? Not really because I’m oversaturated with games I want to play. Missing one great game doesn’t matter when I already have a backlog of great games I won’t purchase because I have a backlog of great games I’ve purchased that I won’t play because I have a backlog of great games I really want to play.

themeatbridge,

C’est ça qui est drôle! And the one on the right is Link wearing women’s clothing from Breath of the Wild. He has to pretend to be a woman to sneak into a desert town where men are prohibited. Cross-dressing is a critical part of the story, and you keep the outfit to wear in battle if you like. You can also flirt with a guy and he’ll give you his boots.

MelodiousFunk,

Can flirt? I’d argue one must flirt, lest one be cursed to trudge through sand and snow.

IMHO Elden Ring isn’t the most difficult fromsoft game.

That honor goes to Sekiro.

The_Picard_Maneuver,
@The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world avatar

I 100% agree. Sekiro is my favorite of them all.

iAmTheTot,

Elden Ring may in fact be the easiest From game tbh.

magic_lobster_party,

Coming from ER to DS3 I think DS3 is much easier. I didn’t put much thought into my build and it was a breeze. I beat many bosses first try.

Much of the difficulty in ER comes from the often hard to telegraph attacks.

RightHandOfIkaros,

You might be inclined to say that if you don’t really know much of the games From has made.

The Adventures of Cookie and Cream on PS2 was a very easy game by comparison.

iAmTheTot,

Lol, okay fair, but I think it’s pretty common to be referring to the “soulslike” genre when you say a From game.

PraiseTheSoup,

Considering they released at least 5 Armored Core games before even their very first souls-like, Demon’s Souls, which was not widely played, I am inclined to disagree.

micka190,

Honestly, if you go back and play the older souls games after Elden Ring, you’ll see that they’re a lot easier than Elden Ring, unless you summon Mimic Tear for every boss fight, I guess. But on a “player vs boss” scale, the fights in the older games are much easier than some of the later ones in Elden Ring (especially if you factor in the DLC).

iAmTheTot,

I have hundreds of hours in all the Souls games. I still say Elden Ring is easiest overall.

RightHandOfIkaros,

The thing that makes Elden Ring much easier is the fact that there is always somewhere else the player can make progress. In Dark Souls, you follow a more or less linear path and if you felt underleveled you had to grind enemies because you could not make any further progress until you pass where you got stuck. In Elden Ring, you can go to a different area completely and make a bit more progress there. From Limgrave, the player can choose to go to Stormveil, skip Stormveil and go to Liurnia Lake, go to Southern Limgrave, or go to Caelid if they’re a psycopath. This is in addition to all the helpers From has given players. Strong magic (compared to Souls games), Summons that are available to the player literally anywhere on top of the same Gold Message Summons from the Souls games, two moves that give players i-frames, etc.

Sure, if you play it like its a Souls game then it might seem hard, but if you play it as the action adventure RPG it is designed to be, the game is significantly easier than Souls games.

micka190,

I get what you’re saying, but I feel like you’re way underselling how hard the Elden Ring bosses are compared to the Dark Souls bosses (the actual bosses, not the re-used late-game enemies with bigger health pool in random dungeons). I don’t think there’s a single Dark Souls boss that comes anywhere close to any of the bosses from Morgoth and onward (Fire Giant excluded, obviously). Morgoth, Godfrey, Radagon, Malenia, and all the DLC bosses are much harder than anything the Souls series has seen (unless you count broken/janky mechanics like Witch of Izalith’s garbage-tier hitboxes).

RightHandOfIkaros,

I suppose, but the player could very easily overlevel themselves to make the bosses very easy in Elden Ring. Can’t do that without a big, boring, repetitive time investment in Dark Souls, farming the same enemies in the same location.

Soggy,

Might be worth clarifying Demon’s Souls and onward, some of us are old enough to have played Armored Core.

Mirshe,

Armored Core series, but those have always had a way to cheese through the campaign, almost universally.

heavy,

Nuke_the_whales,

Elden Ring isn’t difficult, it’s tedious and repetitive. I really didn’t like it

tfw_no_toiletpaper,

Nah Sekiro is great. Sometimes I just pull it up and play it a couple of days because it’s so satisfying. I think Sword Saint Isshin is supposed to be the hardest boss, and it definitely takes a lot of runs until you have him memorized. But on NG+ I first-, or second-tried him. I think all Sekiro bosses are pretty chill once you know them.

Consort Radahn however… I don’t know if I have the will to ever struggle through this fight again

kandoh,

I’ve actually heard that’s why overdraft fees are a thing. The money transfer system gets confused if you’re around zero and ends up creating money that doesn’t exist.

rozodru,

back in the late 00’s there was (maybe still is, who knows) an online service called “gamefly” where you could rent games. At the time the DS pokemon games would allow you to plug in a pokemon GBA cart and copy the pokemon from the GBA to your DS. So I would constantly rent GBA Pokemon games in hopes of finding something good on them to copy to my DS Pokemon game. I had it all scheduled out and everything. You could also wondertrade hacked pokemon or like really good pokemon online. I don’t remember exactly HOW you did it but I do remembering doing it.

Using different sizes and shapes for the buttons based on frequency of use (and to help new gamers not have to look down) was a really smart idea.

VindictiveJudge,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

Generally, but it has some issues. I found the C-stick to be very uncomfortable with the lack of a cap, and you can’t really press two face buttons at the same time unless one of them is A. The latter isn’t usually a problem, but certain games, like the Arkham series, would be virtually unplayable. That there’s only one shoulder button on one side is also pretty weird. The dual stage triggers are pretty neat, though, and the only other controller I’ve used with them is the Steam Controller, which has a pretty steep learning curve.

catloaf,

Yeah, figuring how to roll my fingers among the face buttons to do fancy stuff in Metroid Prime was tricky. I also like to use my thumbs to reach across the controller to the dpad and c stick on the opposite side so that I can change visors while on the move, for example.

Buddahriffic,

Yeah, it shows just how good of a game Metroid Prime was because it was still amazing despite very awkward controls.

I think steam controller has some shortcomings. Deck definitely has better controls.

    TachyonTele,

The haptics are great on it. But the pads aren’t good replacements for sticks.

    TropicalDingdong,
    @TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world avatar

Depends on the game. I couldnt play bg3 without pads. Really need both.

    offspec,

I can’t play souls games on anything but a steam controller. The pads are so much better than a stick for camera movement, and the pads are incredibly useful with the games’ awkward layout for sprinting.

    funnystuff97,

Currently playing Armored Core 6 with a Steam Controller, and I love it. But… the right track pad leaves a lot to be desired.

The best aspect of the Steam Controller, without a doubt, is the modularity and shareability of it. The standard control scheme a game tries to assume, most of the time it stinks. But being able to browse through community-made control schemes and finding one that works for me is fantastic. The highest downloaded control scheme for AC6 got me 95% of the way there; I just had to change the bindings of the back pedals to suit me. Now it uses the track pad and the gyro in conjunction-- track pad for big sweeping movements and gyro for small adjustments-- and I love it.

    PM_Your_Nudes_Please,

The C-stick and Z bumper are the two big weaknesses. If it had a proper twin-stick design instead of the C-stick nub, and actual bumpers that felt good, it would hands down be the best controller ever designed.
