BG3 is a great example simply because there is so much content you can miss. I’ve put 1300+ hours into it and I still see things I haven’t seen in any prior playthrough. Granted they aren’t large story things or quests anymore but still, even the little stuff adds up.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve played those and BG3 has much more content. Especially missable content that depends on the choices you make.

In a bit of a pre upgrade slump, what do you recommend?

The 9800X3D just came out, so I’m looking to upgrade my 2017 PC to join the modern era, which means I’m waiting to play Baldurs Gate 3 (runs, but not ideal), Dead Space Remake (poorly optimised), Space Marine 2, Cyberpunk, Metaphor etc when I build my new rig in a couple of months....

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Have you tried the Star Wars Jedi games? Fallen Order should run fine on your machine and possibly Survivor too but that might be a little much for your rig. \

They’re both wicked fun games that award exploration. I would call them souls-lite not soulslike since they are much easier than something like elden ring or sekiro (that doesn’t mean they are easy though).

Anyone else bounce around from game to game with no clue what to play?

Used to spend most of my days playing live service games that required a huge amount of time, or big AAA titles that are critically acclaimed. For example, Fallout 4/76, Battlefield 2042, rainbow six, World of Warcraft, RuneScape, Skyrim, Destiny 2, OverWatch… Basically any really big game that you would find on the top 20 of...

Play Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s enormous. It’s difficult and the turn based combat is something you’ll have to get used to but it’s incredibly fun and deep.

I’ve put 1300 hours into the game because if you get bored you can just start a different character and try the story from their perspective. There are dozens of ways to complete every encounter.

For me, Cyberpunk 2077 was uninteractive and has low replayablility value.

Been playing this game for weeks. I completed it and then started a new game. The game’s story is excellent, but it absolutely does not justify the tedium it makes you endure to experience it. In a 40 minute sitting, I’d spend the entire thing simply having characters dialogue at me. What’s the point of the open world...

Act 1 is a chore to get through on replay.

Good news is if you have the DLC you can skip the first act. The DLC start puts you in front of the Church in Pacifica after fighting Placide.

I like Cyberpunk a lot but replayability is shallow like you say. Sometimes I just boot it up to punch npcs though. Make a gorilla arms build and go ham. It’s pretty cathartic.

18+ Day 87 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots (lemmy.world)

Today’s game is Spore. I didn’t get a chance to play anymore Alan Wake today due to plans getting in the way, so I dicked around in Spore with my free time. This was what I ended up making (I realized I have the maturity of a middle schooler)...

Currently downloading The Witcher 3 for the first time. Got any advice for me? (lemmy.world)

So I just read this book on history of games called “Blood, Sweat and Pixels” and was fascinated by the chapter on The Witcher 3 and mostly how the team put in so much thought and care in every single side quest. And seems that there are a lot of moral decision to be made on each adventure. So I finally decided to give it a...

Clear the entirety of the first map. You’ll save yourself some headaches and power up Geralt a bit which helps a ton in the early game.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

There’s a danger in any game where it might be largely designed and marketed to be one thing, and then has lengthy mandatory sections where it becomes another.

This is the only issue I have with the cyberpunk 2077 DLC. Most of the game is an open-world action rpg. Then all of a sudden depending on your choices in the DLC you can end up in a mission that is basically Alien: Isolation survival horror. You go from being a powerhouse that can destroy pretty much anything in the game and shrug off missile hits to being hunted and unable to kill what is hunting you. It was super fucking annoying the first time I did the DLC because I hate those type of games. Great DLC except for that small part.

Starfield's first DLC is one of the worst Bethesda DLCs of all time

Starfield steam page for the DLC currently shows eight user review score of 41%, making this one of the worst Bethesda DLC’s released of all time. This is so horribly, shockingly bad for Bethesda, because it shows as a gaming company, they are no longer capable of delivering a really good gaming experience as they had in the...

They changed a lot, but in a good way. I had also spent a while away from the game and came back recently for the expansion. It’s really good.

I would suggest starting a new character from scratch if you pick up the DLC. You’ll really appreciate the new changes to cyberwear that way.

teft,

I prefer the male voice but the female voice is more emotive. Plus the female avatar gets a nice story with Judy.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

IMHO Elden Ring isn’t the most difficult fromsoft game.

That honor goes to Sekiro.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Not sure why you were downvoted. I found Demon Souls was frustrating more than difficult but to each their own.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

If they’re Invincible how come I can see them?

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I wasn’t mistaking anything. I was making the same joke that gets posted to WoW chat anytime someone links Invincible’s Reins.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I’d like more games to be like FromSoft games. The difficulty is adjusted by what gear you have and what spells you use. None of that turning bosses into bullet sponges nonsense.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Meanwhile i finished FO4 on hardest difficulty with just the Deliverer. 2 or 3 shots to the dome in VATS gets shit done. But i agree the difficulty is weird in that game. God Of War is pretty bad for this too.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Leveling is a normal thing in any game. You level up in most games.

Also you don’t need to level up in most FromSoft games. The bosses usually have a gimmick or movement patterns that are easy to learn.

Sounds like you just suck at the games. No shame in that but don’t say something is harder than it is.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I mean for fucks sake for years the advice for hitting a wall in DS was explore and come back at a higher level.

Kind of like when you’re lower level in other games and have to level up to beat the boss? Do level 1 gnomes go straight to killing The Lich King in world of warcraft?

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Look, everyone has their own style of wearfare. Some people show up in full battle rattle with mirror finished armor. Others show up to look good.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Baldur’s Gate 3. But the learning curve even on the easiest difficulty is pretty high. You’re going to die or save scum a lot if you don’t know DnD that well. Worth it though 100%.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Let me get the good gameplay/good story games. Graphics are nice but they’re just the icing on the cake.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I’d wait for at least 3 months. Ubisoft games usually nose dive into the sales a few months after they release.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Everyone has their own tastes in gaming. I don’t judge.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

This works here but maybe also in shitjustworks/c/spaceflight too. Or lemmy.world/c/space. Those are both pretty active space communities.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I haven’t played wow for a while now but the last paragraph made me laugh. WoW originally had three talent trees per class. Then they went to one per class and now years later they’re going back to three. Too damn funny.

I thought his daughter was a sega Jyn-esis?

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I watched a youtube video once that they figured out the guy was cheating via Mario’s eye blinking pattern. Good for them I say. I’m not a speedrunner but I love watching speedruns and it’s really really lame if you’re cheating. Just get good.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

You should go write for CDPR. I’m already invested in this storyline.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

When did OW pull this? It’s been a long while since i followed news of that game

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

That’s when I played. When it first released and for a few years afterwards. I usually played with friends at a high level though so maybe I just wasn’t exposed to trolls like that enough to form a memory.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

This game looks so good. I can’t wait to play it.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Browsing the deals section of the playstation store or reading about them on lemmy.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

If you had played it longer than an hour you probably would have gotten good.

teft, (edited )
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

So your argument against playing for longer than an hour and getting good is playing less than two hours and refunding? You need to play the game for a few hours to understand the combat systems and the way that enemies react.

The first enemy is meant to destroy you. You skip him and find other things to do and come back later when you’ve leveled up. It’s an open world game.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

AFAIK movies have never had anything like that.

Try watching Primer.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

This is true.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I think you need to reread my comments. I don’t really care if someone likes the game or not. I only care if someone says they can’t get good at it when they put in less than the minimal effort. It makes me wonder if people like that gave up riding a bike since they couldn’t ride professional downhill racing tracks in the first hour of learning to ride.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Oh absolutely it’s ok to not want to take several hours to learn to play a video game. But don’t say “i can’t get good at this video game” if you’ve only put in an hour or two. That makes little sense. Difficult things take time to get good at otherwise they would be easy things.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

You could have suggested them to ignore the tree sentinel or Margit, hoever was their first enemy, you could have suggested the to explore the game and ignore hard enemies just like in skyrim we ignored trolls, bears or dragons until we levelled up… Idk, anything but “you didn’t even try how dare you say you don’t like it” wtf.

The first enemy is meant to destroy you. You skip him and find other things to do and come back later when you’ve leveled up. It’s an open world game.

You mean where I do exactly that?

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

That’s an argument for longer refund periods. Not for people giving up before they’ve tried.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

So your argument against playing for longer than an hour and getting good is playing less than two hours and refunding? You need to play the game for a few hours to understand the combat systems and the way that enemies react.

This is not a berating statement. This is a question followed by a statement of fact. Neither of which is scolding the OP.

Suprising obvious fact: The Sun is a Star

I was about 30 years old when I talked to my mother about some program on TV about astronomy when she mentioned that our sun is a star. It's like all the other stars we see during the night, it's just closer to us so it appears bigger. My mind was blown. I didn't understand how I could have lived for 30 years and never thought...
