What are your favourite single-player games without much fluff, grinding or difficulty spikes? angielski

Hello, in the recent years I find myself willing to spend much less time and energy on games, but I do still enjoy them. Oftentimes I end up quitting a new game I tried out relatively early on, because I’m encountering some block, grind, non-optional boring side quest, empty open world, uninteresting clutter or details that I...

Baldur’s gate 3 would be my suggestion. It has difficulty settings from easy to insane. No quick time events. And the whole world was designed with care.

The combat system is very deep since it is based on DnD.

You can ignore side quests and still see the whole main game but even after 1500 hours in the game i was still finding new questlines and hidden caves to explore.

Once again I have to remind people that inflation exists. Game prices go up just like everything else and the last few years have seen insane inflation rates and game prices haven’t really climbed since the 90s. $60 in 2019 would be worth $75 today. $60 in 1996 would be worth $122.

How do you keep track of what games you have played over the years? angielski

Hiya, just newly thought about something: wouldn't be nice if there was a simple way of checking what games you have played over the years, a way to keep track of wether you liked the game or not, how much time you spent playing it etc.. Currently, personally i only check steam library for those kinda details. But it would be...

“I can but i don’t know who they are.”

“Each person must file their own paperwork.”

Singular they.

Most people are taught this in grade school.

World of Warcraft had some fights that had way too many phases. Illidan had 5 if i remember right.

That’s how he’s played. He’s a diver. You jump in and try to distract and/or kill a squishy or healer while your team pushes in behind you. Then you jump out if the push didn’t go well.

Edit: I would also say don’t wait to get healed. Learn the heal locations or run to the spawn for a full heal so you can get back in the fight quicker. I don’t play anymore but I did play a lot of the tanks.

What does it matter what it was running on? This looks pre rendered and anything pre rendered will look good even on a potato. Case in point Blizzard’s old pre renders in warcraft and diablo.

Don’t get me wrong, i’m excited for new witcher, just be realistic on the requirements. I’d rather not have another cyberpunk ps4 fiasco.

Downvotes arent gatekeeping. It’s just people not agreeing with you or disliking your tone. Also bitching about downvotes tends to attract more downvotes for your efforts.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

See, assuming someone calling out your bitching has downvoted you is part of your problem. I didn’t downvote you before, now I have downvoted you because you sound whiny.

Probably Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. All the older Indy games weren’t that great but this new one is really good.

Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Witcher 3, Fallout

Really any RPG you can easily get 1000 hours of play.

I'm bored and desperately search for a proper game angielski

So, I’ve spent over 2 hours on Steam searching for a nice game to play. But it’s all junk, as far as I’m fed with Steam recommendations. I liked ksp2 1, cities skylines 1, age of empires 2, baldurs gate 3 a lot, I just finished Divinity original sin 2. I like rpgs and management / factory games like workers and resources,...

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Have you tried Kingdom Come Deliverance 2? It’s really good and difficult. It’s a history simulator with a really kick ass story and the hero is just a guy. I really like it a lot.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I would suggest to load up an earlier save. The beginning is the hardest part of the game (like brutally hard combat sometimes) and if you don’t train Henry up (either find Tomcat or Captain Gnarly, they are trainers) you’ll just die. Or you can do what i did and just brute force the fight with save scumming. The combat is not intuitive until you practice for a bit.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

One tip i would give you so you don’t get overly frustrated is if you see what appears to be a combat situation (anyone hanging out on the road or beside it at camps) save the game by exiting. This makes an exit save which will be overwritten by the next exit save but it doesn’t cost you a saviour schnapps to save. This way you aren’t drunk in combat nor are you limited to saving only via schnapps. If you do that right as you see a combat encounter you should be able to try it a few times and if you can’t win just run or sneak past them.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Lol Vostatek is great. If you can’t get Pepik back, try going at night and sneak in and kill the camp leader with a knife to the throat while he’s sleeping. If you’re lucky you can kill two or three before the others notice. Also at night they don’t wear armor or weapons except the guy on guard.

Alternatively you can just run in and grab Pepik and get back to Vostatek post haste. The mission is to get the horse, the guys are just extra loot.

KCD2 is a game which rewards you for thinking outside the box. Frontal assaults don’t work unless you’re a sword god and henry ain’t that in the early game.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Glad I could help.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

:) The game just gets more awesome as you go so I’m excited for you. Audentes Fortuna Iuvat!

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Definitely don’t start hard ode then. I thought i was good at the combat. Started hard core and proceeded to get my ass kicked, repeatedly.

Now i have to actually learn the combos and use weapons other than a short sword. Heavy weapons are your friend when the enemy is heavily armored.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

It can be for some games. For others it’s too long.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I have over a thousand hours in BG3 and i still find new stuff sometimes. Far less often now but still. You’ll find plenty of new story in a second or N+1 run.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Kingdome Come 2 has great voice acting too. Some really funny characters (Adder is my favorite crazy Pollack) . They suffer from a lack of voice actors though so some characters have the same actor.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

This type of comment is why people don’t try new things.

The second game is incredibly difficult and frustrating. I’ve got about 600 hours in it so far. The learning curve is very steep and if you don’t pay attention you might miss easy ways to do quests and you’ll have to murder hobo or save scum. Sometimes I feel like the developers are straight up trolls who do shit intentionally hostile to the user.

That said the game is very rewarding and fun once it clicks. It’s kind of like soulslikes in that regard. You just have to play it to get better at it. AND DON"T CLICK CANCEL THE DIALOG!!!

There is a place for every type of game and every type of gamer. If you are a condescending dick to people they aren’t going to want to try the harder games and you won’t be able to talk to them about how cool the harder games are.

For anyone who wants to actually talk about the game with others who like it come join us at /c/kingdomcomedeliverance.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I never played the first one. you get all the backstory in the second. I don’t feel like I missed anything but eventually I’ll go play the first. Maybe if they put it in the engine for 2 because the first looks like crap.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Oh I know. That was more a warning for others coming along.

You’re going to have to get used to frustration with henry’s athleticism if you play the second. My man struggles to run over logs sometimes. Other time’s he’s an olympic hurdler.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve only played up until Talmberg in the first one. I jumped off the castle and broke my ankles and couldn’t run from a guard so I called it quits.

The second game doesn’t tell you anything either. The developers seem to want the player to figure out as much as they can by themselves.

My suggestion is do the quests until you get frustrated then just look up how to do it via a guide. For me that was quite often during my first playthrough (looking at you Tomcat). Many times the game will tell you how to complete something via dialog but it isn’t clear what it’s telling you until a second playthrough. Luckily the game autosaves at key moments during quests so you’ll only lose an hour or three (lol not a joke) if you fuck up badly.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Agreed. The sweet spot was ten man raids. You know everyone is pulling their weight. With 40 half the raid was slacking since those bosses didn’t need a lot of coordination.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Which version? Alterac changed so many times you can’t really make that statement. Some were ok for pugs, some were idiotic.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I absolutely agree, og AV was a pain in the dick. I played as a rogue though so I just ignored chat and ganked squishies.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Musa of Mali is black and he’s in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I’m actually not certain if it’s Mansa Musa or another Musa of Mali. In the game this Musa is an itinerant physician in Sigismund’s employ. I’m not sure if Musa did that irl. Musa is just the islamic form of Moses so it’s a fairly common name.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

It’s really good. Incredibly frustrating and challenging combat but good once it clicks. The rest of the RPG elements are amazing. Except lockpicking. Fuck that nonsense.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I never played the first one but i’m a fan of challenging games. From what i’ve read after getting my ass beaten by single random bandits, the combat is better and more fluid than the first game. Fewer locked in animations is what i gather is the biggest change.

The one thing you really have to get in your brain is do not spam attacks. You will die. Your stamina is like armor in that the lower your stamina the more it hurts to be hit.

Like i said, once it clicks it’s great but boy oh boy was it frustrating to learn.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

The one frustrating system i can’t deal with.

Seriously though, lockpicking irl isn’t as difficult as the game makes it seem even if you were picking modern locks. On medieval locks it should be a joke to pick them yet Henry can’t hold the pick still for half a second so it’s “nope, fuck you gamer”.

Ah well no game is perfect.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, that argument falls apart when henry just randomly moves the pick even though you didn’t move the controller. That’s the portion that I get pissed off at. Fine that he has shit skills, fine that the game has to make it artificially harder for RP. But don’t make me fail at something just because the game doesn’t want me to complete it yet. Just make it not pickable. When something says “easy” it should be actually easy if you know the patterns or method of doing said thing. Like how combat is easier once you realize you can’t spam swing your sword. There is no such thing for lockpicking. It’s just “fuck you gamer, grind it out like a chump” or break tons of picks trying to get the one fiddly rng location to unlock the lock.

Edit: Also he picks locks in the first game doesn’t he? So he just forgets how locks work because of his fall? Bad design imo but a great game other than that one system.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve been playing so much kingdom come deliverance 2 that I didn’t even notice PSN being down.

If you like RPGs try it.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I never played the first one. I just watched a story recap.

The gameplay isn’t janky just brutally difficult and unforgiving. It goes for realism above all. I’m really liking it but I’m only maybe halfway through the story.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

I know pi to 30 digits and still forget what i needed from the room i just went into.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

That’s when you reroll a new character.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

There’s lore?

I thought the lore was that I’m on mars and there are demons I gotta go kill because it’s my duty as a space marine.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

which makes me hesitant to start Ghost of Tsushima.

I haven’t played the other games you mentioned but GoT is a masterpiece. You should really give at least the first act a try to see if you like it. Pretty much everyone I’ve had try the intro has been hooked.

teft,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

the looming threat that Sony patches in more dependence on a PSN login to give me pause.

Ah, yeah that could be a bummer. I play on PS5 so they already got me.

What did everyone grab during the Steam Winter Sale? angielski

I picked up Total War: WARHAMMER III and Pennon and Battle, both strategy games. I’m thinking of getting Baldur’s Gate 3 as well. This should keep me busy for a while. My holiday plan is to stay home and game! https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/ecf5697b-192e-4bcf-87ce-7f1dfec76993.png
