Well… it’s about… Damn time

theangriestbird,

i don’t even have a PS5 and i can’t believe it took them this long

BudgieMania, (edited ) do games w Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition comes to PC on March 21

I'm not sure how I feel about this one, because I think that a large part of my enjoyment of the first one was unraveling the mystery of what had happened to the world, and that's all but gone now. We'll see I guess.

MrGerrit,

That slow reveal of the first game was so will done, I was going: what? What? WHAT?! So eager to see what would come next.

That sure isn’t the case now. What keep me going was going is the game play. I just love riding the machines, hunting and upgrade my gear and skills.

echo64,

For what it’s worth, yes, you know the premise now. But the second game still has a lot of peeling away the past to discover meaning in the present

BudgieMania,

hhhhmmmmm I don't know, I'm not sure I'm interested in discovering more details
I was interested in the general what, not so much on the specific who's or how's, if that makes sense
But I won't fully knock it until I try it

AdellcomdoisL, do gaming w PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for October: Gotham Knights, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes

Elite: Dangerous is an interesting pick, considering the devs have abandoned console development.

OfficialThunderbolt,

Last month, one of the PS Plus Essential games of the month was by a developer that went out of business a few days before the game went live.

AdellcomdoisL,

Its sorta comparable, but Saint’s Row was a finished single player game that could maybe be updated one day otherwise, while E:D is a game that will be lacking several months (years?) of content, being an online game that is in constant development

The digital version looks sleek when vertical. Too bad that Sony’s choosing to include the horizontal stand in the box instead.

The console clearly wasn’t designed for horizontal use.

Still looks like an air purifier / conditioner unfortunately.

I was holding off with upgrading my PS4 Pro with SSD but when I saw new PS5 leaks I went with XSX. Sorry, that thing has no place in an adult living room lol.

Fridge gang vs wifi router gang

Molecular0079,

Yeah, why they have to make it so curvy in the first place? And then they have to add a stupid extra base just to get it to not roll around. Too many designers in the kitchen IMHO.

UrPartnerInCrime,

I also like making dumb decisions based purely off of something or someone’s looks

misk,
@misk@sopuli.xyz avatar

I’ll take the bait. I consider both consoles evenly matched but from the perspective of Sony diehard it’s quite attractive value proposition:

  • I don’t care about first party exclusives because I’ve played enough Naughty Dog games by now. Third party ones will come eventually as always.
  • I didn’t own any Xbox consoles up until now so it’s a treasure trove thanks to backwards compatibility. Especially when plenty of X360 games run 4k60.
  • Game Pass is cool although new Microsoft games seem to be released in quite barebone state.
  • The console itself can be quite cheap where I live, got an XSX bundle with Diablo 4 for ~$450. Game Pass Ultimate with Live Gold tricks is like ~$70 for 2 years. If you want to get really cheap, region change to Turkey, buy rechargeable Visa and enjoy everything being -50% off all the time.
UrPartnerInCrime,

Yeah those are all solid reasons to buy then. I agree with you fully.

I prefer the curves though and that’s where my argument ends so you win lol

Good game, probably worth your time. I enjoyed it quite a bit on PC.

It’s a Wii U gamepad that requires you to buy the console separately.

papalonian, do games w PlayStation’s first Remote Play dedicated device, PlayStation Portal remote player, to launch later this year at $199.99

So it's aimed at people that already own a console attached to their TV, but want to play it as a handheld, and can't take it out of the house to keep playing?

But I thought the Wii U sold poorly. Why would they make another one?

Does Sony still block save transfers from PS5 to PC?

snugglesthefalse, do games w Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition comes to PC on March 21

Only 2 years late

UndercoverUlrikHD,

Late for what?

snugglesthefalse,

The game came out nearly 2 years ago but we’re only now seeing it on pc? It’s late.

UndercoverUlrikHD,

Late for what though? Unless you got hours of spare time to play every day, there’s more great games to play than one got time to play. The graphics is still top of the class and the gameplay is modern, the game isn’t outdated whenever it arrives on PC.

Zahille7,

Because that’s how these ports work? Same thing happened with God of War (2018) and Spider-Man/Miles Morales. Even with the first Horizon game.

snugglesthefalse,

It shouldn’t be how it works, it’s getting better but it’s still not there.

Zahille7,

Well it is. I’m as disappointed as the next guy, but I can wait a while until it does finally come to PC. There are literally thousands of other games to play while you wait.

cyberpunk007,

Better late than never

The PS Portal seems really, really niche. I guess it’s good for families with only one TV set, or for folks who really like to game in bed, but who knows. We’ll see how it sells, I guess.

Llamajockey,

It’s so big and bulky, how am I supposed to carry that thing anywhere, even traveling. The Switch fits in my pocket

stopthatgirl7,
!deleted7120 avatar

It’s not meant for traveling, is the thing. You can’t use if for cloud gaming. It has to be on the same wifi network as your PS5 to play games. It’s meant to be played in the same house/apartment as where your console is. That’s why this seems so very niche.

ElBarto,
@ElBarto@sh.itjust.works avatar

So it’s kind of like a glorified android tablet with built in controlers?

NightOwl,

Expect without even having the functionality of Android. If it at least took an approach like the Nvidia shield so it could be a full on Android tablet or gaming or media machine it’d be cool. But, just a barebones streaming device is disappointing.

ElBarto,
@ElBarto@sh.itjust.works avatar

Sony: you know how everyone loves these cool new portable consoles? Let’s do that, but they can’t leave their house, they can only use it to play their ps5, ohb and we’ll make it about half the price of the console… yeah, they’ll fucking love it!

N1NJ4W4RR10R_,

Bit baffling they’re doing this type of thing given they used to make stuff like the PSP and PS Vita.

You’d think a PS Vita 2 would be the play.

mercury,

I loved the psvita, I used to play it basically anywhere because the battery lasts forever and it’s tiny. I can’t justify buying one of these new consoles simply because they’re so big! If Sony were to make a psvita 2 with a similar footprint and battery life I’d be first in line.

keeb420,

im the opposite. i hated how thin the vita was and how small the buttons were. thats why i love the steam deck, its a lot more comfortable for me to hold.

stopthatgirl7,
!deleted7120 avatar

I truly do not understand their thinking process here.

I feel like somebody made a wish for Sony to get back in the handheld market, and when they did, a finger on a monkey’s paw curled up.

jordanlund, do gaming w PlayStation’s first Remote Play dedicated device, PlayStation Portal remote player, to launch later this year at $199.99
!deleted7836 avatar

Better than the original thinking of $299 which would have been a non-starter for a device that doesn’t even have it’s own games…

But still, $200 for a device that does what I can already do on my phone/tablet/Steam Deck is too high. It’s like they don’t know who their customers are.

Bundle this + the ear buds for $200 and then you have something.

impiri, do games w PlayStation’s first Remote Play dedicated device, PlayStation Portal remote player, to launch later this year at $199.99

I am absolutely gonna spend $200 and countless hours of frustration to get this thing to run Yoshi’s Island at ~20 fps

lazycouchpotato, (edited ) do games w PlayStation’s first Remote Play dedicated device, PlayStation Portal remote player, to launch later this year at $199.99
@lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t doubt there’s a market for this, I just wish for $200 it had more use cases than just “PS5 controller with a screen”. I have a Steam Deck with Chiaki4deck installed for this and while it does cost 2x, it’s a proper gaming machine and a computer.

I wonder what the internals are, and if it’s moddable.

games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud streaming, are not supported.

Would have been cool if they figured out a way to stream those games directly to the Portal.

EDIT: Looks like it runs Android, with Google’s services removed. androiddev.social/…/110939834517107216. Wasn’t aware that there were leaks that confirmed this.

Schaedelbach,

I am pretty sure they know how to get proper cloud streaming going. Even the Vita has it. But why would they? So some people who don’t own a PS5 get this thing and then don’t buy more games and just stream their PS plus games? I can’t imagine they would make much money that way!

Corkyskog,

Isn’t every company making most of their money off their subscription services anyway? Why do they care if I buy a PS5 or not, they literally lose over $50 every time they sell a console. Maybe I am just weird, but I have a PS subscription and have only bought two games… COD for my wife and GTA.

If anything, the smartest play would to require an extra subscription for the device to stream.
