I wouldn’t mind if it were priced to actually make sense.
Like why would anything cost more than $1? Or even $0.01? Just greed and stupidity.
Microtransactions for cosmetic items that cost 25% or more of the base game itself are just insane. A whole game, or 4 cosmetic items, that must have taken sooo much effort to design those items to cost so much.
If they don’t make any money they won’t bother with microtransactions at all.
So it’s either $0.01 for cosmetic items or they don’t make cosmetic items at all because You’ve already paid for the game, and making new things just costs them money.
In the case of Minecraft the issues you listed are pretty much present in almost anything entertaining, video games or not, including in-person events and social functions.
As with anything moderation is key and people just need to learn not to let it control them. Some people are incapable of that though.
There are definitely certain things that game companies need to avoid doing but multiple goals, a little bit of luck, and online cooperative play is not it.
The thing about older games and Minecraft being addictive is that it’s sort of fine, because they don’t benefit financially from it so obviously it was unintentional and just because of the entertainment.
It becomes a problem with these new games when they are subscription based or have lots of microtransactions because the more addictive the game, the more money the company makes.
I was pretty hyped for the new prince of persia game (the lost crown), but come to find out it’s only available on ubisoft’s proprietary launcher or epic games. Nope, and nope....
I don’t know how they all manage to do it but EA, Ubisoft, and Rockstar are all my most hated companies of all time. They can make some good stuff, but I just absolutely hate how they all force people to jump through so much hoops just to play the games you pay them for.
They force you to make accounts with them and use their stupid launchers which never work properly and are just advertisements. There have been so many times I just wanted to play a game and then forgot my password to the account and got locked out or the launcher needed an update and I had to wait like 20 minutes.
Personally I spent over a hundred hours in TW3 and finished all the DLC whereas I couldn’t get past the first few intro missions to CP2077. Gave it up in under 20 hours or so. Can’t even remember why the game just never stuck out as special in any way to me.
New maps? I found that I always gravitated towards one map as I disliked all the rest. Mostly just wanted a big open space to go crazy, not obstacles that I had to design around.
Wish this was a game mode option as a standard part of the game.
Sort of sandbox but not.
I do like the games but one thing that really bugs me is that you lose because of “queen impatience”
Like, what? It’s just so petty and infuriating when you do lose because of it. That queen can hold on one more god damn season to get the last needed thing. She’d rather destroy an entire town though. Makes it difficult to want to complete the outposts for such a terrible ruler.
To me it sounds more like hitting f8 reload but being able to choose the f5 quicksave from any point in the game, not just the points that you remembered to save or your most recent f5?
Say a simple (hours enjoyed playing)/(price of game) equation. How many hours (you enjoyed) per $ do you think is reasonable/expected? Or is there other criteria for you?...
I don’t really understand how people make the review threads, but we’re sitting at a 77 on OpenCritic right now. I had such a pain in the ass trying to make highway on ramp and off ramps look good while also being perpendicular to the highway and each other. Ruined the game for me because I couldn’t get past the first offramp to even start building 😓 bugged me way too much
I would love to see the equivalent of the Harry Potter game but set in a small hobbit shire with the ability to travel to human cities and elven and dwarven cities.
Eh, I just found it relaxing. I was a fan of the wizarding universe but not a die hard fan, so little details like being able to explore at night didn’t bother me. I just really liked the detail of the world, running around and looking in all the building and finding the neat little magical creatures and flying objects.
I didn’t mind the flying, I wasn’t doing it to beat high scores in racing or become quidditch champion. I just used it as a means to explore the world.
Definitely wasn’t a fan of the lock picking, probably would have been better if they should locked that behind three different spells you had to learn at different points.
I’m just a little bit late to the Baldurs Gate 3 party, but I searched on here and didn’t see much follow up discussion about it after the review thread. I’m also trying to submit more to Lemmy so the communities can grow, so I thought I’d bring it back up now that it has been out for a few weeks....
Oh shit, I didn’t even think of picking those up. I only just discovered I can pick up the books that default to reading on click. Didn’t even think to use that on backpacks.
I do quite like it, but there are definitely small quality of life improvements that were missed in the initial launch. For example the mini-map, which rotates on movement and I find it annoying to navigate. There is a way to stop the rotation, but then there is no indicator on it to display which direction your camera is facing and is still difficult to navigate.
Just small things like that here and there that I’ve noticed.
Yes I see the cardinal directions, but if I’m looking at my main map trying to figure out where to go, and planning in my head “okay I need to take a left and then a right and then another right…” Then exit out, look at my mini map, I either have to align it back so north points up top to get my bearings or if it’s fixed I have to move my characters forward to see which direction the camera is facing so I don’t mix up my lefts and rights.
That has pissed me off so much because I keep forgetting to make sure that damned arrow isn’t there before I click. And then sometimes my mouse moves ever so slightly when I do click that it was enough of a shift to change the pathway close enough for it to appear.
What exactly is it that prevents a PlayStation from playing an Xbox game?
A dell PC can play the same games that an Acer can.
Why can’t we have some sort of standardized console operating system like android where different companies can design their own console systems all of which can play the same games?
Oh, is it simply because of capitalist proprietary bullshit? Okay that’s fine.
I have avoided reading much about the game. I am loving it, but I have no idea at what point in the game that I currently am. It could end in the next ten minutes and I’ll be satisfied with my purchase, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s another 10+ hours. This is what I was waiting for Bethesda to release as the next Skyrim successor if they hadn’t decided to milk that cow until troll cheese came out. It’s everything I want in a game. Story, gameplay, length, affordability, fun, and no microtransactions making my efforts feel worthless.
I love hearing about unique takes on game mechanics. Someone recently convinced me that limited inventories are kind of abused currently and that unlimited inventory systems would give more player choices.
Have you ever played a game and wondered what if you could do something that it doesn’t really allow you to do, for example being able to move around blocks in Minecraft fluidly instead of in sectors, edit the world in Hogwarts legacy with spells, be able to fly in a world like Elden Ring or Elder Scrolls with epic sky...
