Involving corporate email chains, a private investigator investigator, and a Circle K construction site… this special podcast episode is worth listening to! I posted the transcript for easier reading.

GammaGames, (edited )

It’s crazy and frustrating, but at least we got another podcast episode out of it!

edit - link

Included

  • The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series
There’s a lot of hours here, it has the 4 Seasons, 400 Days (a dlc), and The Walking Dead: Michonne. Seasons 1, 2, and 4 are great, give this a shot if you haven’t yet! I’m replaying it and it still stands up.
  • The Wolf Among Us
    urban fantasy, nice and grim
  • The Expanse: A Telltale Series
  • Tales of Monkey Island: Complete Season
  • Batman - The Telltale Series
  • Batman: The Enemy Within - The Telltale Series

Didn’t play the bottom 4, so not sure on the quality. Tales From the Borderlands is currently free with prime, too! Worth a playthrough

GammaGames,

Thank you!

GammaGames, (edited )

Season 3 was pretty bad, everyone was so shiny! 4 is good so far. Art style is back and improved + the gameplay is way better (combat!)
I think they somehow added part of the style to the previous games too, if you wanted to replay them anyway 👀

And you’re right about Wolf, if it were a tv show I’d never hit skip on the intro. Hopefully season 2 is still happening?

Edit: on the art -

“Graphic Black” art style brings Season 4’s enhanced visual style to all previous seasons. Also includes full dynamic lighting to episodes that previously did not receive this upgrade.

GammaGames,

Their story based games feel higher budget, the controls start out serviceable but get better.
I think Wolf is the best controlling of the games I’ve played, but I might change my mind after Season 4. S4 is definitely the best looking so far

Thanks for the info! Monkey Island might be fun for a rainy day, never played the originals

GammaGames,

How is it looking? I haven’t been following, only saw part of the documentary (it was hard to watch in the background) and know pretty much nothing

GammaGames, (edited )

Finished The Room 3 last night! Onto 4… probably this weekend, we’re part way through The Walking Dead’s final season. This damn kid.

Also finished Sorcerer’s Stone for the GBA (halloween screenshot) on my anbernic SP! It was weird, lots of flippendoing gnomes slightly off the edge of the screen. Thank god for GameFaqs!
Chamber of Secrets has a more “forward” camera… but sometimes it feels a little too forward. We’ll see, so far it looks a lot better than the 1st!

GammaGames,

The lack of accent is an odd choice, I agree! Maybe they went the Chernobyl route (fitting) where they let the voice actors use their regular voices so they wouldn’t have to be faking an accent the whole time? I thought it worked well there. Thanks for the rundown, might have to preorder it!

What type of game do you want to see?

I am a really big fan of base building in RTS games, which is why I never liked Starcraft. Bases in Starcraft feel like they have such little rhyme or reason. They are messy and ugly. I always build a ton of bases in games like Tiberian Sun, that, while gameplay wise, are a waste of time and money, feel fun to build and fun to...

GammaGames, (edited )

I want a VR shooter that actually uses the tech interestingly. Give me sections of Zero G with full 6dof. Give me quirky weapons with panels you slide open when they overheat and barrels that twist to change firing mode. Give me abilities that I could only use with a virtual pair of hands, like slingshotting grenades without dropping my primary or reaching into things to grab loot. And make the gunplay feel like Pavlov because it’s the best.

Easy enough, right? 😅

Edit: also use eye tracking to make the horror better

GammaGames,

Any ideas? I’ve wondered the same, don’t really vibe with the 4X pattern but I like the slow snowball

GammaGames,

Exactly! Creatures that peek around corners and slide back away when you look toward them, monsters that follow your eyesight to dodge attacks, etc.

It could be great!!

GammaGames,

Against the Storm is the game I was trying to think of for this, thanks for sharing it!

GammaGames,

As a dev who recently released a game for the system (on sale now - only $1!), I’m pretty excited to see what gets included! It sounds like it’ll be all new games

GammaGames,

Save up for season 2, it’ll be like a game book club! Maybe we can finally make a playdate lemmy community 😭

GammaGames,

Cheers, happy Halloween!

GammaGames, (edited )

Heck yeah, I think that’s a good reason! 💛 Hopefully they ship out by mid-December, would be nice over Christmas!

GammaGames,

Unfortunately it’s still ~$100 just to make the thing, so halving the price doesn’t sound likely. It’s definitely a device you have to use intentionally because of the screen, but I still play mine at least few times a week (and daily when I’m pomodoroing!)

Plus you get 3 months of included games! A bit harder to become ewaste so fast when you’re playing something new every week

GammaGames,

Mars After Midnight was fun!

GammaGames,

Hello, thank you 👋 The niche toys are my favorite! Someone made an orrery app, which is like a solar system simulator. I have this year’s eclipse bookmarked because it’s neat

GammaGames,

The lua sdk is great btw!

GammaGames,

It would be, I love the genre so I’d definitely play!

GammaGames, (edited )

I downloaded the demo rom (from itch) to play on my anbernic sp tonight! I didn’t realize there was a nice little homebrew scene

Edit: Played it some, great game! They have little gates that take away abilities and it makes traversing a shared area really fun. Smart level design and the platforming is solid

GammaGames, (edited )

Love Ooblets! The dance battles are a fun little replacement for regular creature collecting fights, and they also scratch that deckbuilder itch.

GammaGames, (edited )

Frog Detective!

It’s a lighthearted detective series, more of a walking sim with humorous characters than anything. The magnifying glass doesn’t even do anything! The dev did a fun talk about comedy in games if you’re into that

Here’s a shot I got from the last game (corruption at cowboy county) https://beehaw.org/pictrs/image/963c5204-44a7-4ccf-a974-61c99735c17f.webp

GammaGames,

KNIFE FIGHT!!!

There’s a lot to do outside the main plot, the townspeople were really interactive. Great rec! The falling leaves give it a cozy vibe too

GammaGames,

Most of the game is fantastic, but yeah my partner and I were surprised when that happened!
There was one other plot point where we raised our eyebrows, but I don’t know to do spoiler text

GammaGames, (edited )

Little Inferno can be beaten in ~3 hours and… let me check… yes, it’s on mobile! It’s by the people that made World of Goo, don’t sleep on it

Hat in Time is a great modern 3D platformer, movement was fun and I liked the variety of characters across the levels. The Murder on the Owl Express quest was my favorite!

GammaGames,

The OLED update also helped create a secondary market of used/refurbished units, it was a pretty good decision

GammaGames, (edited )

This is actually advertised as having no emulation, all FPGA. Idk if those are compatible but they also say the n64 was the first multiplayer console in the header so they’re clearly a little sketchy on the details lol

GammaGames,

That’s silly, thank you for the explanation!

GammaGames, (edited )

Streaming high-res data from the cloud

GammaGames,

How… do you think we represent physical objects digitally? Vibes?

GammaGames, (edited )

We shouldn’t have to say that at this point, my initial reply already conveyed that information.

I understand the gripe with it though, they have the option to download areas ahead of time.

(Though it’s probably a one-time download, with models and textures cached for later use)

GammaGames,

My first reply said it was streaming high-res data from the cloud. Considering it’s a flight simulator advertising to cover the entire world, most people would intuit that would include textures and 3d models.

I’m not going to sit here and argue with you, have a nice day.

GammaGames,

I thought it was a fun comment, didn’t come across as negative at all. Also TIL!

GammaGames,

They’ve had this type of stuff in the works for at least a decade

GammaGames,

Announcing a new partnership with Jira…

ryujin470, do gaming angielski

In your opinion, what video games have terrible names?

GammaGames,

Octopath Traveler
Octopath Traveler II
Triangle Strategy

Bravely Default is pretty bad too

GammaGames,

It’s “fitting” but that doesn’t make it a good name

GammaGames,

Definitely good games! Just weird names

GammaGames,

I didn’t know he did gaming stuff 👀 He’s so damn fun to listen to, binged part of his channel a year ago. Will throw this on tonight, thanks!

GammaGames, (edited )

Nice revisionist history there!

GammaGames,

I’m aware of Symbian, it ran on over half of the world’s smartphones before 2009. It’s not some hidden knowledge.
You’re the one who said it had zero innovations, which is patently false. Here’s a short piece from AllAboutSymbian.com on the topic. I never claimed they invented the smartphone or anything like that, but it’s obvious that you think I did since you added that part about the tablet.

This conversation is not worth my time, you’re free to think whatever you want. Have a nice day!

GammaGames,

I didn’t know ESO had mods, interesting! I’ll have to try it.

You’re right about the never-ending story, even with the pack I found I’ve gone and added a few 😆
