Finished the main story of Enderal. Impressive for a total conversion Skyrim mod, I wish there were more like this! Feels like I may touch this game again after five years or so.
Randy Pitchford being a walking PR problem and a condescending prick towards gamers isn’t really helping the situation. He alone doesn’t want me to play any of the games in the series.
Hey y’all! What have you been playing this week? I played a bunch of the recent Talos principle remake. It was cool! The story hits differently with the way the world is with AI but I still thought it was enjoyable. Now I’m starting up the sequel!
I saw someone, somewhere, saying something like this recently: it’s always easier to play the role of doomsayer than the optimist, because far fewer people seem to care if you’re wrong when you’re predicting something will fail....
Been playing Enderal for the last three weeks or so. Downright impressive RPG, blows Skyrim out of the water easily. Made by indies, but AAA quality, and free of all things!
Looks like open-world simulator games coming from Finland have one common theme: getting drunk. The competition between this and the previously posted Last Drop is going to be tough. Regardless I am delighted of Finnish culture being represented in games.
Feels great to have a game that represents Finnish urban culture from the 90s with promises to combine that vibe with Kaurismäki and Tarantino. However the character models could be more livelier. And that music sounds so AI-generated, hopefully the final game doesn’t use it.
Started playing the first Watch Dogs for the first time in six years after learning about the wide variety of mods. As a Linux gamer I of course had to do a bit of tinkering. Ubisoft Connect would only make a black screen and take me to the login screen. I read that had something to do with Wayland and Proton not handling Electron apps really well. After switching to Wayland I could finally use Ubisoft Connect and download the game.
Performance-wise the game does well. After setting geometry and LoD levels to High instead of Ultra, the frame rate stays above 60 FPS. This may be mainly due to me using Linux and the game’s optimization as hardware is well above the recommendations.
Modding is currently annoyingly janky, as I had to create an XML file for each zipped mod for Disrupt Manager. Still I couldn’t get that working, as I got a weird error message. Interesting to know if that tool works all well on Windows. I resorted to installing The Worse Mod with Living City, so the game’s graphics get overhauled and more randomness and chaos is added to the game world. The graphics get more closer to the infamous E3 2012 demo, but as a downside the depth of field effect is closer to the player, as if Aiden Pearce were near-sighted.
God dang it, apparently he has now stated how he is “going to dedicate more time for making music and reduce the amount of work”, so he’s not entirely retiring. I’d say to him “make up your mind!”
As the title suggests: I’ve had it with open worlds with dozens of things to do and checklists to complete. What are your favorite, delightfully simple, linear games?...
Just finished Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Got it five years ago but got frustrated and uninstalled it. Then I played it on-off for some time. But after lots of tries I got the final boss killed. Yes, there is an option for New Game Plus but nope, time to play something else. Brilliant game, hard but rewarding.

For me the way has been using gyro aiming. It provides a mouse-like precision for aiming, which is really good for FPS games. It is supported on Steam nowadays. Of course on Steam Deck it may be not the best option in terms of playing experience, as turning the console also turns the screen.
this is already leading to layoffs, including “GamesIndustry.biz managing editor Brendan Sinclair” and “Alice Bell, deputy editor at Rock Paper Shotgun”
Whatcha all been playing? Been kind of sick this week so I took it easy but still found some time to get some Isaac runs in. Also started up rogue legacy 2 again which is a good time
Been playing Vanquish. The game feels like a Japanese take on then-popular cover-shooters like Gears of War, but with faster pace and mechanics like sliding that incentivize not relying on covers too much. Like with Platinum’s titles, there’s deep mechanics and really getting into the game starts when replaying the game’s missions.
Tomb Raider Anniversary was dirt-cheap on Steam so I bought it. As a remake it feels a whole lot smoother to play compared to the 1996 original, no tank controls. I also installed ReShade and a couple of texture upscale mods to make it more pleasant-looking, with add-on enhanced ReShade I could also use ray-traced global illumination.
I played BattleBit Remastered for the first time since August and I really need to hone my skills.
I also several demos on Steam, News Tower really got me hooked with its gameplay. The full game should release on Early Access in a couple days, might as well buy it.
