LordWiggle, do games w what video game deserves to be in a museum?
@LordWiggle@lemmy.world avatar

EA games deserve to be in a museum.

Because everyone needs to remember how a company can exploit their customer base with money grab schemes like loot boxes, pay to win junk and empty unplayable shells which need loads of expensive dlc’s to make it even a little playable.

There should also be an entire wing for never finished bug simulators.

The area with actual proper games would be tiny. But it should include the old age of empires 2, city skylines 1, Kerbal space program 1 and everything from Larian studios.

SereneSadie,

Age 2 is actually in a museum now. Larian’s games are overhyped, and even KSP went bad the moment Squad sold out to Tencent.

LordWiggle,
@LordWiggle@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve finished BG3 6 times now, had a lot of fun playing Divinity 2 and am now playing divinity 1 couch coop with a friend. Their games are actually properly built, with loads of well written storylines.

The reason why it became so over hyped is because people got angry at all the other studios because Larian actually delivered properly built games worth their money. Same with Schedule 1. The game is fun but should be average compared to other games. But it isn’t average, the rest is just complete money-grab bug simulator junk.

ColeSloth, do games w [Megathread] Payments Processors & Collective Shout VS NSFW games

Wow. “Mega threads” are exactly how reddit buries away news they don’t really want people to see or care about.

Devmapall,

Huh, I never really thought about it when I was on reddit but I sure ended up ignoring the megathreads.

On steam there’s often dedicated threads to post bugs/questions and somehow they make it harder for me to find a problem or solution also. I usually will find what I need in a different thread.

Maybe the fact that Lemmy is smaller will help

Dremor, (edited )
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

That’s probably why it is pinned, to burry it away from everyone eyes 🙄.

I had multiples report about the various topics that popped over the weekend, because how many of them there was on a span of a few days. Moderating them was a nightmare, so I tried to politely ask everyone to consolidate on the same thread. Somehow it ended up in insults, so I had to close it. First I considered selecting another topic, but most of the remainding ones were to foccused on one part of the issue to do such thing.

Thus, the megathread.

Trust me, I’m not a fan of the concept either, mostly because how time costly it is to maintain it, but that the price to pay to not have to spend twice the time sorting repports on various threads.

You can pirate 'em if you’re that short on cash. Most of them don’t cost too much more than €20. 0 AD is entirely free, along with all of the Super Tux games.

-Download Linux executable (FTL.x86_64)

-Enjoy!

paraphrand, do games w Does anyone else find it suspicious that there wasn't any criticism on here about Stop Killing Games until after it hit 1.4M signatures?

I’m not against the goal. But I have voiced that I don’t think this route/configuration of leadership will work.

I only heard about it once people on Lemmy started talking shit about this pirate guy. I hadn’t heard about him either. So it came on my radar as drama. And I ended up having a rough time sharing my point of view. People are really emotional about this intuitive. They take any criticism as an attack that could harm progress on signatures.

In the end the drama with this pirate dork ended up actually bringing positive attention that helped an otherwise flagging initiative for signatures.

I hope the initiative causes positive change.

Pheta,

But I have voiced that I don’t think this route/configuration of leadership will work.

Could you elaborate on this, beyond the one sentence? The rest of your comment makes it clear that you weren't aware, and still aren't about much of what was going on with SKG. Given that you don't have a clear understanding of what the timeline of SKG was, that does leave room for doubt that you understand the initiative. I would like to give you the benefit of the doubt, so please explain what you meant.

I hope the initiative causes positive change.

We all do.

paraphrand,

I don’t jive with the guy heading it up. With the way he communicates the message, with the style of video he makes, or with the approach of a petition. I think all of that combined is a weight on the effort.

That’s where I’ll leave it though. Cuz I’m just one guy. No need to throw a bunch of downvotes on this. My voice won’t hurt the cause.

descartador,

Sorry, but there is no one else. Are you going to give your savings away for this? No one would, but he’s doing it.

He has an online following that expect his style of video, but regardless of that, this is the same thing that made piratesoftware hate in the projext blindly, he didn’t like the look of the guy and the aesthetics.

Really? Grow up, why do you care how the video looks? Have you ever tried writing script, setting up a studio, recording, editing, publishing and designing a video? I do this professionally and it can takes weeks or months to have something that looks moderately acceptable. Why do you care about the aesthetics? I don’t get it

paraphrand,

Why are you so concerned with my opinion?

descartador,

It’s just a conversation

paraphrand,

You’re calling me childish, and making assumptions about what I have and have not done in video production and related fields. And I’m being downvoted for sharing my opinion after being asked for it by the OP and someone replying.

It just doesn’t feel like “just a conversation.”

descartador,

mcforest, do games w Mario Maker 2 is really fun to revisit

I really don’t play enough on the Switch to justify subscribing to Nintendo Online (also: fuck you Nintendo that this is even a thing), but do I miss playing MM2. Such a great game, but literally unplayable without the subscription.

mcforest,

That sounds interesting, never heard oft it. Thanks.

prole,

That’s cool

lowleveldata,

Isn’t online subscription just a standard practice for all the consoles? PC is the only platform without that

mcforest,

Considering how much your average Switch user plays online games, it might be even less justified for Nintendo to require a subscription than Sony or Microsoft. I really don’t feel like paying for that, just because I want to play MM2 every couple of months.

I saw it posted on here much before it reached the threshold. I think that before then it was really just a few people running with it, now that it has gotten momentum, more people are sharing and we run in similar circles so it can appear to be overwhelming.

So much internet space wasted for mundane thing,

Is This petition even automatic to get to the board of European Commission or European leaders?

If not, then it’s waste of time,

Also I have zero knowledge about European Legislation, to be honest so I maybe in wrong

givesomefucks,

Pretty sure:

  1. Yes, this is a legit thing the EU cares about. However that’s also why I’ve always wondered why they’re soliciting signatures outside the EU…
  2. Didn’t it come out that the people who pushed payroll processors to force studios to censor, have been found out to be a bunch of far right religious extremists who definitely aren’t going to stop here.
Skua,

There is also a UK petition, which has itself cleared the required threshold. Are those the out-of-EU signatures you mean?

givesomefucks,

It’s possible there’s multiple out there

I just at one point also wondered what the point of a petition was because I’m a jaded American

    That’s not very helpful.

    PleaseLetMeOut,

Zoomed to the max Firefox will allow (500%). Not seeing anything other than some film grain with JPEG compression artifacts.

AI content usually starts to look more mosaic (random shapes clumped together) as you zoom, not grainy/compressed.

    Zahille7,

Have you never seen Inglorious Basterds?

    stoicmaverick,

Mostly assumption. Granted it’s a pretty good example, but I can’t imagine where this image would have otherwise come from, which means that it’s either generated, or someone spent a reasonable amount of time doing an expert level photo edit from a movie still frame just to make this meme.

    Zahille7,

People have done more for less on the internet.

    Psythik, (edited )

It’s a screenshot from Inglourious Basterds [sic] with the Nintendo logo Photoshopped in.

You shouldn’t claim that something is AI, if you can’t even tell a AI apart from a real image. Work on your identification skills.

    AwesomeLowlander, (edited )

It’s been shown in controlled studies that AI ‘identification skills’ are as effective as flipping a coin. People just don’t realise when they see the good images, and pride themselves on noticing the crappy ones.

Edit: Ah, you’re one of those people who downvote anything they dislike hearing without bothering to say a word. Here’s the one of the studies I mentioned: nexcess.net/…/humans-struggle-to-spot-ai-generate…

    stoicmaverick,

So I asked OP instead of flinging vaguely articulated insults based on assumptions. He (they?) said he’s not 100% sure based on the source, but “possibly AI edits” based on “the too perfect uniform texture I usually associate with AI”. So…

    Zahille7,

Is this your first week on the internet?

Do you not realize that memes of movies/TV shows have been made since hobby photo editing has been a thing? Do you not remember all the ridiculous bullshit memes from the mid 2000s-early 2010s where like half of them were just stills from some show or movie with a different caption to try to make it funny?

    Couldbealeotard,
    @Couldbealeotard@lemmy.world avatar

“I can’t possibly think of where this image, of a famous movie actor in a period costume, could have come from, therefore it’s AI”

    stoicmaverick,

Period costume? From the terrible NINTENDO Wars of '04?

    leftzero,

    From world war II (photoshopped).

I can’t find the exact original image, but this appears to be an image of actor Christoph Waltz portraying Standartenführer Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino’s film Inglourious Basterds, photoshopped to make fun of Nintendo’s notorious asshattery.

    https://i.ytimg.com/vi/MHcEixj0Akw/maxresdefault.jpg

    stoicmaverick,

Ya, I got that much. I’ve seen the movie. I appreciate the thorough explanation though. I’m just saying that I think that the edit were done with/by an AI photo editor and people are losing their entire minds at the very insinuation.

    Darth_Lemmy,
