Dharkstare, do Gaming angielski

Just started playing Graveyard Keeper and it's interesting but it seems really grindy. Hopefully it starts picking up a bit as I play. I'm also wondering if I should get any of the DLC now or wait a bit. The DLC is on pretty good sale right now on Steam so that might be something good to pick up.

@games

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s the literal definition of grind. I wanted to love it, but the grind was insane.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

When the Nintendo kids were playing that, i was hitting Sega Rally, Geoff Crammond’s Formula One Grand Prix, and Destruction Derby.

Let’s just say Mario Cart was not for me.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

No, I only enjoyed the sims at the time.

I’m older, and life has gotten busy.

My friend’s son is into it in a big way. I’ve used his full sit down simulator. It’s impressive.

Stunt Car Racer. Now that was impressive back in the day, also.

GOG News for Gaming/Linux/Steam Deck angielski

I thought a dedicated GOG News post might be a nice change-of-pace. I’m not sure how much I can find or cover here, that hasn’t already been shared in any case…but I do love GOG, and I feel they get a little less publicity or cover than the obvious alternative of Steam…so here we go :)...

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

I often buy a game in steam, then think “I didn’t check GOG!!!”.

They should really be supported. Drm free. Love it.

Gotta get in the habit of checking GOG

Looking for a local co-op game to play with my SO (Steam Deck) angielski

My SO and I have been having a lot of fun playing co-op games on the Steam Deck connected to the TV. We recently finished Split Fiction and I’m looking for the next cool experience to try out. We enjoy casual co-op games, nothing too hard or violent. EDIT: pixel art is apparently a big turnoff for her so that’s out as well....

Check out Kingdom Two Crowns. Absolutely brilliant

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

The whole series is great. But two Crowns is multi player. But, thinking, might only be split screen on one device?

Purchased My wife a RP5 for Christmas. I could see she’d always wanted to game, but was embarrassed that her controller skills were non existence.

3+ months in, and she’s a button maniac. Her farm in Stardew is insane, and she’s fighting monsters in the caves better than I do.

That little device created a private space for her, to get lost in the magical little world, and in the process has turned her into a gamer.

I never interfered. Only answered her queries when she asked, and let her go at her own pace.

Total game changer. I’m so proud of her.

Can’t wait to get her into some new games, but waiting for her to make the call. All in her own time.

I honestly came here for this. You can’t make this shit up. He’s literally the villain.

makingStuffForFun,

So what have these asshats been doing lately that they need good publicity to hide behind?

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Surely though if it is fully GPL, then new assets can be created by the community and the originals are no longer required?

Got a retroid pocket 5.

Wish I’d done it years ago. Never had more accessible gaming.

And not just retro titles. Stardew Valley, modern metroidvanias, etc are amazing on it.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Definitely. I’ve written some small games. Gave them away free on the play store.

Lasted about 3 years tops before they were removed for not supporting X, Y and Z new features.

Shame. One of them had tens of thousands of downloads.

Tomb raider in 2d metrodivania would be cool.

Same with maybe Doom?

Sparta, do games angielski

The era of traditional video games is just over for Gen Z. They aren’t just playing games anymore, instead, they are rewriting the rules. Forget about what we used to play with static storylines and pre-designed worlds.

Yeah, nah

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s not shocking, when you consider the level of graphical fidelity they’ll be pushing on screen.

The more detail you add, the lower the framerate, on any given hardware. They will be balancing “oh my God!” level graphics, with playable frame rates. The fact they’re shooting for such a relatively low frame rate, shows how hard they’re pushing the hardware.

What video game franchises do you not need to start from the very beginning to enjoy? What would you recommend as the entry point into your favorite series? angielski

I’ll start by saying I had a bit of trouble wording the title but I’ll try to elaborate on it. I find it can be a bit daunting at times figuring out what a decent entry point is in a series of video games without searching online first. Sometimes there will be ten games released across three different generation of consoles...

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

This is more arcadey, but I recommend giving Cave Story a go. The story is rich, the worlds deep. It’s a great game. It’s not the same genre, but for me, it has a similar vibe.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Would it work well on a retroid pocket 5, do you think? I’d happily buy it if so.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s good enough for me. Thank you so much for the feedback. I’ll take the gamble. The game looks right up my alley

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Oh. May I ask your thoughts on the screen size, with this game?

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Thank you so much. That is my concern. However, I’m willing to give it a try as I can still play it on PC. Thanks again for your feedback.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Thank you. Much appreciated

Civ 5 was great for this. Me and another old fart in our 40s played it against each other.

makingStuffForFun,

Wait a second. I’ve just woken up, to what’s happening here!

makingStuffForFun,

I have no time for such things.

That screen shot is gold. Gaming on Linux is dead to me. Thanks for sharing. It should all be public.

Sid Meier's Pirates, and everyone else in the game, are aware of the date... (lemmy.sdf.org) angielski

I recently started a game of Pirates! When I sat down to play today, the pirates were no longer the only ones spicing up their speech with arrs and ahoys. The merchants were doing it. The military were doing it. The nobles were doing it (awkwardly). The barmaids were doing it. Even the user interface was doing it....

We’ve all moved on to Godot.

Thank the gods for Godot, because without it, everyone would have been screwed.

makingStuffForFun, (edited )
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

If I were to lose 25% of my profits to a price hike, our business would suffer. As would all of us in the business. The stress would be real.

To those businesses that can absorb a 25% increase, and the staff are not hurt, and be OK that’s great.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

The paywall in open source business apps is infuriating. I’d rather they just go full commercial.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

And exclusive titles is an asshole move to force users to buy a whole platform for a single game. It’s anti competitive. It’s anti consumer. It should be illegal.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

I agree. Stunning. It’s not for everyone, but, those who can appreciate the slow, beautiful, revealing beauty and enjoy taking their time, this game is as good as it gets.

Those that mash buttons to skip cutscenes, may as well give it a miss and try something else

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

The Steam Deck was literally designed as a proof of concept to try and bootstrap the industry. This device is not competition, this device is exactly what Valve are hoping for, and obviously many others like it. Valve want to sell games and so therefore they want hardware manufacturers to create more devices that they can sell more games on. They also want to do it free of Microsoft’s tendrils and their control.

makingStuffForFun,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

I have and it was amazing but I don’t own one and I’ve never used it as a controller on the Linux PC.
