Forgive my ignorance, what’s Real Debrid?

Grappling7155,

A torrent caching service

sylverstream,

More info here: …vercel.app/…/no-more-pricey-streaming

Stremio + RD is awesome, when it works.

Blizzard,

Some kind of a knock-off of Real Madrid?

Crabhands,
@Crabhands@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s a service that allows tv/movie streaming from torrents. I use it with the ‘Seren’ addon within Kodi on my HTPC/FireSticks. It’s $20/6 months, and works great. No buffering.

You can name the title, that’s fine. The only thing you can’t do here is openly share links to that content (it must be encoded with base64).

When it comes to old media, especially from the early 2000’s and earlier, I start with Archive.org and YouTube.

Like /u/Sharpiemaker suggested, your library would also be a good spot to check. If you have a reference library in your system they are a goldmine for that sort of thing.

Alternatively, you can pick up a cheap capture card and record the tape to your PC.

MasterBuilder,

I have found a library that had equipment to transfer to DVD, however if the tape has copy protection it won’t work. I’ll find out. Plus, I can buy a DVD version - I found it in searches - but I already own this and don’t want to buy it again.

ezures, do gaming w Beautiful games?

Bastion from supergiant games, most of the game is hand painted, it gives a floating feeling, and given the game is on floating islands it gives really nice atmosphere.

On the other side, the art style of Katana Zero and Hotline Miami is dirty and distorted, but I really dig that style . Probably wouldn’t work with standing still part, but in motion they are works of art.

BearGun,

most of the supergiant games tbh, hades and transistor both have some beautiful scenes as well.

I mean, it’s hard to ignore the “Shoddy PC ports” when it’s your main platform and if that applies to you, and you mostly play big budget games, well so far, this year has mostly been fucking awful.

MrGerrit, do gaming w Beautiful games?

Most recently horizon: forbidden west had me moments that I would stop and just look the beautiful scenery. As a hardcore introvert, staying inside person I really admire such a great view.

loops,

I feel that. I’m anxiously waiting for it to be ported to PC. ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ

I use PIA because it’s cheap as dirt. I don’t use their client and I have it setup so exclusively my torrent client uses it. It works for my use case because I’m pretty much just trying to avoid nasty letters from my ISP. I wouldn’t trust them with any of my regular traffic because they’re sketchy and there’s got to be a reason they’re so cheap.

Although I would consider what your usecase for a VPN is - ie what attack vectors are you trying to protect against when using it for regular traffic? There’s arguably very little a VPN does to protect you on public WiFi and also opens you up to new risks

DonnieDarkmode,

Well my hope was that it would protect against things like packet sniffing and in case I connect to an evil twin (if I’m using that term correctly). But I’ll be the first to admit my knowledge there is incredibly limited, and I wasn’t aware that it would actually create new vulnerabilities. Would you be able to explain a bit?

skyrim, i have loads of pictures just of the sky in that game

also hogwarts legacy has some very beautiful locales throughout the game, and hogwarts itself is wonderfully done

lustyargonian,

I played Skyrim AE right after Horizon Forbidden West and I kept finding the simplicity and visual clarity of the game to be so damn beautiful. The game has the right amount of clutter, right amount of volumetric fogs and right amount of texture detail to be easy on eyes and believable as a consistent and functioning world.

Monster Hunter World is five years old and holds up great.

  • bask in the sun halfway up the Ancient Forest with a Tobi-Kadachi (giant white electric flying squirrelsnake; chill until you hit it)
  • climb up to the top of the Coral Highlands cat colony and watch the sky jellyfish float by in the sunset
  • share a hot spring with snow monkeys in the Hoarfrost Reach

They did a great job of making the maps feel like a living system that goes on while you’re not there. (Sadly, this is much less true of the newest MH game, Rise, where the maps are full of traversal puzzles but the wildlife pretty much all exists only to attack you.)

clarfgg,

+1 for MHW, the environments always felt alive and you start to learn the patterns of wildlife as you spend time in them

I liked rise because the gameplay felt more streamlined and flowy but I agree, the environments felt a little more stale

i use these guys: https[://]my.tvaster[.]com the yearly subscription is very cheap. i have it on a s905x4 box running coreelec and i can watch all the big games with no problems and very little delay - compared to other services. i will sometimes use a vpn due to my isp being known for using traffic shaping

CheekyYoghurts,

This provider seems to only offer mainland European channels. They also don’t provide a channel list which is very weird and somewhat suspicious. I was interested but need to know more before I pull the trigger. The site offers virtually no real information

9krpm,

try and contact them via a support ticket

CheekyYoghurts,

I could, but I shouldn’t have to.

If they’re making me jump through hoops just to find out what they’re offering, that’s a non-starter lol

MrNobody, do piracy w Finding mainstream media on usenet - am I doing it wrong?

It’s recommended to have two providers, one for monthly and one block account, on two seperate backbones. I think /r/piracy or /r/Usenet has a list, and as whirlybird mentioned just add the show to sonarr and it’ll eventually grab it.

If you don’t have any *are suite I highly recommend getting that set up. Sonarr for tv shows, radarr for movies. It’s all set and forget, just add the content you are after and the *are does the rest. You just add your indexer(s), add the provider(s) and you’re sorted.

omalaul,

Thank you for the advice! I do have sonarr running but some stuff just keeps not turning up

Hi-Fi Rush and more recently, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk have been a few other standouts for me, especially Hi-Fi Rush, absolutely phenomenal game

B3_CHAD,

I am really looking forward to Starfield, I am a sucker for everything space. I also really wanna try out BG3 but a bit intimidated as I have never played a CRPG.

miracleorange,

It’s very accessible compared to other cRPGs. D&D 5e was already designed to be beginner-friendly, and Larian just made it more beginner-friendly while also making one of the most open-ended games I can think of.

SHOW_ME_YOUR_ASSHOLE,

I’ve been enjoying BG3 quite a bit but I actually feel like DOS2 is more accessible as someone who has never played D&D. All the modifiers and weapon proficiencies and armor class things are really confusing to me as a noob. This complexity adds a ton of depth to the game but I feel like combat in DOS2 was more straightforward and I think I like it more.

Still haven’t gotten out of act 1 in BG3 yet so my opinion may change as I get more familiar with it.

donuts, do gaming w Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon Review Thread
@donuts@kbin.social avatar

As someone who totally loves the Souls games (plus Bloodborne and Sekiro) but played Armored Core 2 on the PS2 way back in the day and thought it was just kind of OK, I'm not really sure what to think about AC6 right now. On one hand I don't really expect them to diverge from the essence of what AC is and should be (deep mecha customization and intricate combat), but on the other hand I feel like the type of game that AC2 was is something that I don't look back on super fondly.

Anyone else feel conflicted about whether to pick up AC6?

EvaUnit02,
@EvaUnit02@kbin.social avatar

AC4 was more super robot than real robot. AC5 was real robot but half-sized. AC5 also had a global multiplayer war. So, they've experimented with the series over the years.

That said, if you haven't liked AC in any form it has taken, I can't imagine you're going to like AC6.

Never played Roblox myself, but my son had a big phase and still plays from time to time. Back then we’d get him Roblox figurines once in a while. They can be disassembled/mixed and they come with codes for virtual items as well.

Stillhart,

they come with codes for virtual items as well.

Ooh, this is a great compromise. I like this idea!
