I want Amd to have 4k 120hz support on Linux please? Stupid hdmi forum.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

That isn't an option now with my htpc (home theater pc) connected to my TV.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

I also don't get it.. Just 1 DP port is sufficient for me.. And before people are saying.. just use a DP to HDMI adapter.. Well, I tried.. And it doesn't work either for some reason.. I still can not get 4k 120Hz. (yes my TV supports that, yes.. I also tried "gaming mode" on my TV)

Uh.. I bought this product (see link below) , but now I'm confused if this is an active or a passive adapter. Which adapter do I need for this.. A passive or active adapter to get DP++ working?

This was the product I bought in the past: https://www.amazon.nl/dp/B0B2ZF95KC (the site doesn't say anything about passive or active)

ps. I also hope my videocard and TV supports DP++ then.

EDIT: I also see DP1.4 to HDMI 2.1 cables (so without the need of an adapter). Is that also maybe a solution? Like this: https://www.amazon.nl/PremiumCord-DisplayPort-kabel-mannelijk-stekker-resolutie/dp/B0FKMNB65S

Lol. there will be aliens on earth for sure before GTA 6 will be released

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

I still play GTA Vice City and Vice City Stories.. I never looks back or forward from that moment.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

you can't pirate a game that will never be released..

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

You are missing the most important issue. It only runs on Windows!

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

So in theory.. you can not even play single-player campaign because of kernel level anti-cheat + internet connection. Even if Wine/Proton would allow you to start the game.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

What a shame. But to be expected..

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

Not fully true. Yes a lot of games run on Windows.. But a lot of them also run on Linux, in some cases even Native, in other cases using Wine/Proton from Valve. See: https://www.protondb.com/

A lot of online pvp games do work under Linux as well. But then again.. AAA games are the most problematic.. because they just stuck, and get ignored by the devs/publishers. I'm looking at you EA!

@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

I suppose we just have to hope the air conditioner doesn't suddenly hit us with a BSOD!

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

I'm pretty sure they do already have AI integration on the latest models..

It’s official: EA is selling to private equity in $55 billion deal (arstechnica.com) angielski

Friday’s reports that Electronic Arts planned to go private were publicly confirmed Monday morning. Silver Lake, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners will join together to pay an estimated $55 billion for the video game mega-publisher in a deal being described as the “largest...

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

Well EA is done now. It was already down hill, bad Linux support.

EA is now fully over.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

They do have the license for wrc and I don't like it.

melroy, (edited )
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

First EA killed all the good developers/publishers like Codemasters.. Maxis. Visceral. Criterion. Black Box.

ANd now they will be sold to a private investors..? What the hack.. EA is dead to me already.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

Ah yes Westwood! Much love ❤️.
EA BTW confirmed it, EA is now sold.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

OK ok.. Does it run on Linux?

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

OK that sounds promising. It's not like EA which will break Linux on every game due to kernel level anti-cheat.

Day 382 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing angielski

Today’s game is Halo 3! A few months ago a friend picked up Halo MCC on Sale to play with our usual Halo group, and we resolved to play through the campaign together. We played Reach as a group of 4, then me and the friend played Halo 1 together, Halo 2 Co-Op had some issues though and he had to play by himself (we think it...

He actually tried to buy up the whole landfill so he can continue to search. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/14/uk/james-howells-landfill-bitcoin-gbr-intl-scli

And still searching to this day and trying to buy the whole landfill: https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/14/uk/james-howells-landfill-bitcoin-gbr-intl-scli

I can't agree more with you! Nfs hot pursuit was the best. I'm talking nfs from 1998.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

You know there is a modern patch? You can still play this game today. Apply the modern patch by VEG. And you can play widescreen and other fixes.

People still play it today, even multiplayer see also the telegram group: https://t.me/classicnfs

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

I don't know if people play multiplayer online with pcsx2.

@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

Look out there is a bad ghost right behind you in the closet.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

He also dropped other perks you can try to pick up, if you have enough inventory place left.

melroy,

There is still a GPU shortage, but they just blamed Covid. Before they blamed crypto. Now they blame AI.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

The vendors should stop calling it GPUs if its not used as a GPU. AI workloads are not GPU, cryptomining are not GPU. Nvidia and alike should create a different name for it. Nvidia H100 for example is still called GPU, but it has nothing to do with a normal GPU you and I use.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

that is also fine. Or just call it "AI cards" when these chips are obviously meant from AI interference workloads.

@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

Most unrelated thread of the month!

So I'm playing games like age of empires. But also open source alternatives like 0ad using lan. Works great!

I'm talking the old school age of empires and age of mythology games btw.

Next, there are also good need for speed games like need for speed 3 hot pursuit from 1998. Which works very well via lan.

Maybe red alert also works, or open source alternatives like OpenRA. And then we have games like Planetary annihilation, which also have lan feature.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

Skill issue.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

Also try 0ad for the people who like age of empires games. It's free and open source.

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

It was indeed just 1 pyramid haha

melroy,
@melroy@kbin.melroy.org avatar

Correct. Nishiura said that emulators are not illegal. Depending on how it is used ;P
