I think gamers as a whole, though specifically those in niche communities, need to take a long and hard look at themselves. We should celebrate the volunteers that create wonderful content for us, generally with no financial gain. early access games are also notorious for being dogshite and left as such, or they’re fine but with obvious flaws which are never fixed because “bro it’s still in early access!”
it’s like how yahtzee will continously corrupt the name of whatever he’s talking about in fullyramblomatic videos: balatro, baloney, balalaika, bolschevism, botulism

it’s really funny to me how obvious the… “inspiration” of this game is from pokemon, and yet nintendo has been struggling so hard to come up with something to sue them for, like i don’t really care about this in and of itself, but seeing a big company unable to remove a splinter from their toe and copyright unable to be enforced brings me joy.
Tanooki Mario (comfy man in pajamas), and uhhhh…well i don’t really have a Smash main, I like to play all kinds of different styles. Which I guess also fits the question…
i understand the appeal as a minigame, like it’s literally a minigame in Deep Rock Galactic, but the fact that people genuinely play it as its own game is… bro just play minesweeper
Ontop of all of that, it was also just clearly a corporate cash grab where the people who made it either didn’t feel strongly about it or they didn’t get to put their soul into it as much as they wanted.
It’s not just bland, it’s a cold and calculating kind of bland. Like being served nutrient paste, but it’s not even flavourless instead they added artificial banana flavour so now it’s both depressing and makes you feel sick.
this is the only thing i’m desperately missing from deep rock galactic, i yearn to see the dwarves vibrating up and down
i want to huddle around the compressed gold shouting about future riches while we all buzz like bees dancing to show the way to pollen.
Things aren’t looking good for me. I’m a few levels into Selaco, a new FPS out now on Steam, and I’m stuck behind a bar as a group of sci-fi soldiers unload their rifles and shotguns into my hiding spot. I’m also low on health. So yeah, a bad spot to be in. I take a deep breath and try something....
thing is, games aren’t pretty because they model every cell in every lifeform and have 5 gigabyte textures for each individual leaf, they’re pretty because they have good graphical design.
Just lighting alone is like 50% of making a scene look nice, you can literally just slap together a low-poly flat-colour scene in blender and set up nice lighting and people will call you talented.
A prime example of this is valheim: ps2-style models and textures and yet the lighting and general graphical design makes it look lovely and atmospheric, especially combined with the music.
it annoys me to no end that people think minecraft looks terrible and attribute that to the textures, it’s literally just pixel art! Other games are praised for having pixel art! aurgh!
Minecraft might be considered ugly, but in that case it’s probably moreso because its lighting is… rudimentary… or that person specifically just doesn’t like the artstyle.
Also something that almost no one ever talks about is render distance! Games with a gargantuan render distance look SOOOOOO much more appealing and are easier to navigate, but people just don’t think about it!
I recently played Satisfactory and holy shit that render distance, when i called down the space elevator it’s the only time i can recall a game ever making me just sit there in awe, never before have i felt such a visceral sense of scale from something on a display!
nail those 3 things and don’t fuck up anything else, and people will throw money at your game, because the rest of the industry seems to refuse to provide games that are simply enjoyable without trying to turn you into a dairy cow.
god this is like when everyone called first person shooters “doom clones”, overwatch is absolutely not a tf2 ripoff lmao, and making a hero shooter does not mean it’s an overwatch ripoff either.
and this is why i wish people would make it profitable, fuck AAA titles, give your money to indies who respect the consumers and actually just want to make a fun game.
I wish game devs would found a union that helps developers fund and publish games with no profit incentive, it seems like such an obvious thing to do and has the potential to revolutionizing how people create and play games.
No longer would we be beholden to companies, no longer would developers have to compromise their works for profit, no longer would players have to tolerate predatory bullshit.
Just good games made by passionate people who are happy to have people enjoy their works while being able to afford to live on it.
which is why the steam deck was such a breath of fresh air, it’s what consoles SHOULD be.
A computer built primarily for gaming, sold at a reasonable price, that merrily lets you switch to desktop mode and launch excel for some office work if you want to.
Ignoring the lack of updates if the game is buggy, games back then were also more focused on quality and make gamers replay the game with unlockable features based on skills, not money. I can’t count the number of times I played Metal Gear Solid games over and over to unlock new features playing the hardest difficulty and with...
It was genuinely fun when i started and had to hunt for materials and actually had the threat of death, i hid in a cave to recover heat protection and had to do that a few times before i entered space and then the game all but ended
I think ideally it would work like it does in Endless Space, ships have varying amounts of space for equipment and cargo, and you can install upgrades to convert between them somewhat.
E.g. with a freighter you could convert enough cargo space to equipment space that you can slap on some extra guns, or you could make a bootleg fighter by taking a standard ship and jamming equipment into most of the cargo space.
ideally i’d want games to have NPCs react to if you’re wearing a helmet or not, and a real risk of getting attacked when in populated areas, so you have a choice to make whether you want to keep your helmet on or take it off (and that should be a simple button press)
that way there’s a bit of added flavour, and you have an actual reason to see your character without a helmet.
i mean they’ve sold like a million copies, i don’t think they’re going to be hurting for cash any time soon, just pirate it and maybe buy it later if you feel a desire to.
and like, that decision has probably earned them way more money than they would ever have seen otherwise, along with the sustainability to KEEP earning hideous amounts of dosh for a good long while
