Oh yeah for sure. I still go back and play the main story mode of Crash Team Racing every year as a ritual, on the other hand I’ve literally never played mario kart so the answer is obvious.
Moonring uses natural language for interacting with NPCs and progressing the game (though you aren’t actually controlling them, and there are different gameplay elements so I’m not sure if it would fit the bill?). It uses word matching, but has a really cool system where you’ll get bubbles with suggestions based on other information you’ve uncovered (and then there’s hidden stuff you can ask/say as well).
My experience was only playing at friends’ houses who had Play Stations, but I never felt like one was better than the other. I appreciated the mechanic of upgrading items helped to give a different element to the game instead of it being the same thing Nintendo was doing but with different characters. What we really played a lot with friends, though, was Battle Mode on Mario Kart. I don’t think CTR had that, or else no one thought it was as good. It really hasn’t been as good in Mario Kart either since the Wii version I’d say.
Crash Team Racing is a great game, and I certainly enjoyed it more than Mario Kart 64 (I was never a fan of MK64 though to be fair). The campaign mode was super cool and kept the game fresh.
I still wanted the new Sniper Elite game but didn’t want to spend $20… so I got 5 for $5! I haven’t done story mode, just the invasion mode where you try to kill other people while they play their story missions. Since it’s a 2022 game most of the people still playing are very good, but after a day I’m at 8 kills!
We’re also about halfway up the mountain in Baby Steps, it’s slow going with many falls
BF6 looks so dang good, I loved Operation Firestorm in BF3!
Played Fatal Frame I was really enjoying it up until the third night, where there’s a huge difficulty spike and I fear I’m stuck there due to not having resources. I might restart it some other time, but I’ve decided to play something else.
So I played Still Wakes the Deep. I found it to be pretty mediocre: the story and acting were fine, but I couldn’t really connect to the characters. The gameplay is so scripted and simple the monster encounters had no tension as they were basically on rails. Doesn’t help that the monster design is forgettable and they mostly look like flesh blobs.
I’m currently playing Resident Evil Village and Project Diva.
I have no attachment to Nintendo brands nor Mario Kart in particular. My sister bought a Mario Kart Wii game a few years back and I didn’t care much for it. Having grown up with CTR on PS1, and Spyro and Crash as platformers, I immensely enjoyed the remake.
I like how the kart handles, and the turbo mechanic is a lot of fun and has a lot of depth. But I suppose that MK fans have other things they enjoy from their franchise.
CTR also rewarded you for understanding the mechanics more. Some boost pads gave you a boost with a higher top speed (blue flame). If you knew how to maintain a boost, you could maintain that blue-flame boost indefinitely.
It’s just that to do that you had to hit nearly every boost pad, triple boost at nearly every corner, and avoid all the obstacles (including touching walls). It’s hard to maintain it, but even maintaining it for a little bit can really launch you towards the front.
Damn. I really thought this was from Darkwatch, a very weird 2005 shooter where you play as a vampire cowboy. I have fond memories, but, given the timeframe, couldn’t say whether it’s good or worth playing today
I’ve been playing My Time at Sandrock exclusively on my Steam Deck, so controller controls. It’s more focused on crafting instead of farming (you don’t unlock farming until you’re 2-3 in game weeks in), but it’s still very Stardew. I haven’t played the previous game in the series, My Time at Portia, but I understand it takes place in a more fertile area than Sandrock’s desert.
Eastward has been on my wishlist for ever. Not really a building sim, and not sure about controller support. But the pixel art might draw you in like Stardew did
