I have played nearly all of these games when they were still brand new or only a few years old. My back hurts. 👴

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

The Finals at least is a fun as fuck game. The everything goes style also kinda makes sense considering the game is taking place in some kind of VR game show and both mocking of this kind of live service while being a live service game itself.

It’s also not a hero shooter; Your dude is supposed to be you. 🤷‍♂️

I have recently flipped my views for Nioh and Lords of the Fallen. Plaued through LOTF two more times for the Umbral and Inferno endings I never saw and to get item descriptions I didn’t get my first play through (they tie some flavor text to having high enough stats, all in the magi schools and my first dude was an ungabunga caveman) and I started to hate the game for its infuratingly bad design decisions that were done on purpose to make things artificially difficult or obscure.

Now I am giving Nioh another shot and it’s actually clicking this time. Still a bit awkward, but taking it slower than even Dark Souls 2 makes a big difference and feels like I was just trying to rush things before. Still not a fan of how the levels are done, but I kinda get the feeling this is improved in Nioh 2 which I will try after getting through Nioh 1. I have always liked its more complex fighting system, with the stances and how casting spells is more fluid than a Fromsoft game, it was mostly the Ki recovery thing that gets annoying (Ki is stamina and you can recover it by tapping a button at the right time, but being hit reduces it and it also gets slowed by certain enemy uh… things) but that’s not really being an issue as I play currently, except in some cases where I am clearly hitting it at the right time from the SFX and visual on my dude, but not actually getting the purification thing cleaning the yokai gunk off the ground which messes with positioning (thats the stuff that slows your ki regen for those who haven’t played).

It might actually have been better to have played Wo Long before Nioh, as it has many of the same mechanics and gameplay, but more simplified by not having the Ki system since it is only after absolutely demolishing that game in under 20 hours that even had me entertain the idea of giving Nioh a second shot.

The Tales of games. Or at least the early ones.

Games you really want to play, but can't or won't? angielski

Diablo IV, for me. I love the Diablo series and just a bit ago, I sank 2 hours down to get my necromancer character up and set in Diablo II Resurrection. I have Diablo III and its expansion too, but they're online only and I almost can't be bothered to go through that. I've beaten it a long time ago....

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I want to check out Black Myth: Wukong. But I ain’t paying for something with Denuvu and I can’t pirate something with denuvu either.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

It’s been out for years

It’s barely been a year and half since the DLC came out…

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Steam didn’t do that. Even when you bought a physical disk you didn’t own the game. Microsoft is the one you should be blaming for how software is licensed over actually being sold to you. It was them who really pushed for that shit in the fucking 80s.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Does it make cacodemon cakes while you play? 🤔

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Valheim hasn’t really changed much at all since it got super popular. It’s added some stuff, sure. But not a lot. And it is still horribly balanced and all over the place with what it wants to be.

Which sucks.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I assume they mean 1000 hours in TF2. This mod has its own store listing separate from base TF2’s.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

That makes it even more damning of a bad review. lol

I saw the comments saying it basically is TF2 without the updates, but reading the description on the store page it sounds nothing at all like that.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Ok I did. And I’ll play it again, too. It was the best Elder Scrolls game to date.

The only thing that could make it better is updated visuals, better combat, and NPCs that actually move around and have schedules.

Oblivion and Skyrim have slightly better combat, better visuals, and NPCs that walk around. And nothing else that made Morrowind so fucking good. Let Kirkbride write more than 1 or 2 quest lines, god damn it.

Players are returning their Dispatch copies due to Switch censorship (www.polygon.com) angielski

Dispatch’s release on Nintendo platforms today was poised to be another testament to AdHoc’s tremendous success with the point-and-click superhero workplace comedy, but news of a platform-specific difference has overshadowed much of the excitement for fans hoping to play the episodic series on-the-go. Instead of celebrating...

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Oh so there is sexual content in this? Well now I gotta get it. Uh… Just not on the Switch.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

It’s still surprising that Sony is apparently being more lenient than Nintendo for once.

To be fair, the only real memory I have of the OG God of War games is that the first or second game opens up with Kratos motorboating two girls’ titties. And that was in a time when nudity in mainstream games was still nearly unheard of.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

That whole controversy was blown out of proportion. Not only because it could only be accessed by hacking the game apart, but also because it didn’t actually have any explicit content. It was still fully clothed models just animated to hump each other.

As a horny teen, that shit was the most disappointed in a rumored game secret I had been since being told if you beat Metroid fast enough you can see Samus nude.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Er… I guess I was exactly 20 by GoW 🤔

I was born in 1985 it came out in 2005. I was still horny, tho. Also I was on like every drug in my 20s, so it’s kind of a blur.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

You must not have grown up back then. The game does show her in bra and panties if you’re fast enough. The rumor was that she was full on naked tho if you were even faster than the bikini easter egg. But that was some bullshit, and you couldn’t just look at a wiki to know this, you had to find out for yourself.

There were other similar rumors back in the day for all sorts of games. “Nudalities” in Mortal Kombat. The ability to actuslly obtain the Triforce in Ocarina of Time. Getting to play as Luigi if you collected 121 stars in Mario 64 (later was actually made real in the DS release, but you unlocked Yoshi not Luigi). Etc.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

At this point I just kinda expect Haunted Chocolatier to come out as a major update for Stardew Valley and not it’s own game. 🤷‍♂️

What is immersion to you? angielski

I find my brain extremely happy when a game provides ample opportunity to make connections, like in Dwarf Fortress, where I watch an event unfold, which can stir my creativity and imagination like nothing else. Writing a story out of it is extremely smooth and easy compared to other sandbox games....

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Nothing takes me out of immersion more than pointless exposition. Stop talking to me, the player, and keep the conversation normal for my character.

Probably why I love soulslikes, especially the mainstays by From. They only give you terms of the world and don’t explain anything to you because you are part of that world and should know this shit.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

You think we want launchers?

I hated being forced to use Steam when it launched, after they shut down WON that was used for CS. I want as little applications running in the background 24/7 as possible.

Steam got better overall, making the 24/7 background application actually useful to keep running (controller support to control desktop, chats, notifications of sales, etc). Nobody else does that tho, and I definitely don’t want to use a different launcher for every fucking game/store.

Kolanaki, (edited )
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

The main game is also good, just not as cool aesthetically. I personally think it had the best dialogue and story of the series (on a non-humorous level, I mean. BD is “better” in the sense it’s purposely awful but gets the vibe it is going for spot on)

Kolanaki, (edited )
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Beating Dark Souls 2 without dying or using a bonfire rewards you with a ring that makes your right hand weapon completely invisible.

It isn’t worth it at fucking all, since there is a spell that does the same thing and is way easier to obtain (even in 2025 despite being a multiplayer rank reward). The spell and ring also have ZERO effect on PvE and it rarely matters in PvP when the animations of your body instantly reflect the size of your weapon to a good enough player. Like, I don’t need to see your Ultragreatsword to know that’s what you are swinging when your arm starts hefting the weight.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Until it can be actually photo-realistic and cross the uncanny valley, it’s best to just have a stylized aesthetic anyway.

Kolanaki, (edited )
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

And even with that chopped up BS, they’re still not as in-depth as games were just kinda starting to get.

Finished Dying Light: The Beast, it was a good game. angielski

Despite having to wade through the absolute bullshit of the end zone in order to complete the main story. I felt Techland did a solid job with bringing back Kyle Crane and some reoccurring characters in the franchise up till this point, Castor Woods had a great mixture of terrain to explore and parkour in. It made me think about...

Kolanaki, (edited )
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I am confused; is The Beast an actual game on its own or just a newer edition of the first game after the addition of co-op/PvP all included? 🤔

I thought The Beast was just the major update that added the MP stuff.

Kolanaki, (edited )
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Maybe the new Ecco game will be optimized well enough to not need or include DLSS and frame generation. 🤷‍♂️

If they use that stuff and it’s still a 2D platformer, holy fucking shit. 🤣

Kolanaki, (edited )
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

The game can run faster than the refresh rate; you just won’t be seeing more frames than 60 a second.

Gideon Olfnir.

Dude’s a huge prick the moment you meet him, with his irritated, condescending tone. Then he sends his goon after you and lies about it. “Oh, Ensha? He just got a little ahead of himself. It’s all good, you killed him didn’t you? No harm, no foul.”

Then he tries to stop you from claiming the Elden Throne because… He’s jealous? He’s lost his fucking mind over the fact you, a lowly Tarnished, managed to get that far? I really don’t know. It’s a bit confusing, well beyond other weird shit in a Fromsoft game, and part of it could just be how this game in particular was a collaberative effort with GRRM and there is likely a huge difference in what Martin wrote for the backstory, and how Miyazaki “corrupted” it.

I really don’t understand the dude. Maybe there’s an item description that would give some context… 🤔

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

The D in Dbrand stands for “douche.”

Rockstar still hasn’t dropped a solid explanation for cutting loose 30+ GTA 6 devs. angielski

And yeah it’s not passing the vibe check. The layoffs smell less like “business decisions” and more like classic union-busting tactics. Protests are popping off, lawmakers are raising eyebrows, and the studio’s silence is only making things louder. When trust breaks, even hype can’t cover the cracks.

Day 539 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing angielski

Today’s game is Max Payne. I went ahead and figured out how to renable the Developer tools again and was just playing around with it. Remedy games are always the most fun to do this with because not only does it let you get out neat screenshots (like the one above), but theres some interesting things to be found out of bounds....

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I always need the dev console in Max Payne because I like setting the bullet time speed to half of what it normally is so it’s more Matrix-like.

And of course I have to have the plaza shootout level and kung fu construct (for the kung fu mod) from the film, too.

Sidenote: Altering the bullet time affects cutscenes. So, like, the part where the door blows off in the subway can actually kill you cuz the cutscene ends before the door is actually moving. But it also makes catching one of the bosses that you have to chase around the rooftops so much easier because he’ll still be monologuing when you get control after the cutscene.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

That’s exactly what we keep yelling at the companies that keep trying, but some of them don’t listen, fire their staff for AI, and then regret it a few months later.

Just because it is incredibly awful does not mean stupid fucks in charge of companies won’t do it.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Whaaaaaat?! Hell no! It would have been better for that whole montage scene after completing the prologue to have just been side quests you can do with him to get to know him more so his death hits even harder.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

The two that makes the least sense are Street Kid and Corpo. Why is the Corpo one his best friend but the Street Kid has to meet him trying to steal the same car? It should have been reversed.

But, he’s less of an asshole when starting out as a Nomad. IMO, it’s the best of the three introductions.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I get bored of the combat by the time I get to the Red Baron. Love the story; but the gameplay gets super repititve super quick.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

That’s what I ended up doing because I did wanna see the end, I just was done with the journey to get there lol

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I only just started Silent Hill F and the coolest visual I have seen was the very first “everything dissolves into the hellish world” scene.

It’s always been a staple of the series, but this time is looks so fucking cool with how it dissolves everything, not just the surface textures.

Kinda wonder if having a newer RTX GPU would make it look better; the settings for Lumen don’t really change how it looks, it just massively drops my framerate 🤷‍♂️

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Switch being #2 behind PS2 is impressive given it has had a shorter lifespan. PS2 was on the market for 13 years. Switch has only been 9.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I remember that was the case for PS3 and BluRay, but not so much DVD and the PS2. PS3 was, what, $300? $400? Where as the cheapest BluRay player that just played BluRay movies was almost a grand.

I may just not remember it being similar for PS2. I was a sophmore in high school when it came out.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Elden Ring being 3rd and Baldur’s Gate 3 being tied for last is quite a surprise.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I keep expecting to find some gnarly shit like was in the previous game and I haven’t found it. IDK if it’s just not there to find, or if the shit is even more esoteric than before.

I’m also quite confused by the fan tributes and favorites. Not against it, or anything, I just don’t understand things like why Mr. Tenna is so popular. 🤷‍♂️

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

No. Doom.

Quake never had any vision, originally. That’s why it seems so random.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Check out Doom Bible; Tom Hall’s original design document for Doom. One of the first drafts is where what I am talking about came from.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Wo Long straight up just lets you turn player invasions off. I would not mind it being an option, personally. I wouldn’t turn it off most of the time, myself, but I am always for more options than less.

I, personally, want it to work like DS2 but without Soul Memory. No level or weapon upgrade limits. You could be fresh out of the tutorial and be invaded by some level 347 dude with the strongest weapons and beefiest armor. It would be awesome.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

We probably won’t see a GTA doing it anyway because Watch Dogs, Crackdown and Cyberpunk are already basically that.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

The only thing in this list I have even heard of is GTA6.
