SweetCitrusBuzz, do gaming w Valve must address swastikas and other hate on Steam, writes US senator in a letter to Gabe Newell

We’ve come across it all too often, even personally been attacked before just for asking a game to fix its pronoun usage before.

Now we just don’t bother saying anything and keep reporting until something is done.

Thcdenton, do gaming w No one should have to “grow a thicker skin”: Valorant studio commit to harsh penalties for harassment
@Thcdenton@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve been playing games online for 20 years and never before have I seen this level of passive-aggressive douchebaggery. Rules limiting what you can say must have some influence on this trend. I just mute my mic and chat in pug matches now.

winterayars,

Riot Games is incredibly good at generating asshole players and incredibly bad at doing anything about them. I’ve never had players on my own team intentionally try to throw the game as hard as i had in Riot’s games. It’s not only the low level players, either.

…Aren’t they a bit late?

I mean, better late than never.

Mini_Moonpie, do games w Sims 4 devs assemble team to focus on fixing bugs and upping performance

They didn’t need to announce this. They could just fix the bugs and players would start noticing that a bunch of bugs were getting fixed.

dumbass,
@dumbass@leminal.space avatar

But how can they publicly pat themselves on the back for it!?

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

They could have done nothing and been okay because Paradox apparently put their competitor Sims game on indefinite hold so we’re still stuck with just EA’s bullshit instead of having a choice of which life sim with an outrageous amount of paid for DLC we want to play.

Mini_Moonpie,

I had not heard about Life By You being on hold. That’s frustrating. Paradox games go nuts with DLC too, but some competition is better than none.

echodot,

Paradox seems to be having some problems at the moment. No idea what is going on.

I think it is just an issue that management is greenlit to many projects simultaneously and now there aren’t enough resources to go around (shockingly), so they have to suspend some stuff so they can focus on other stuff.

lud,

Personally I don’t really mind the DLCs in paradox games.

The DLCs fund the smaller free updates and they are optional. If you want to regularly get more content for the games you love it might be worth the 20 euro (or whatever) and you absolutely don’t need to buy every single one just the ones with features and content you like.

Basically the options are: more new paid features and some new free features or no new features.

Mini_Moonpie,

I don’t mind DLC that’s done right for games I love. I just know it’s a common complaint for Paradox games to have a lot of DLC. That said, there are games that have produced a ton of free updates with very little DLC, like No Man’s Sky, Terraria, Minecraft, etc. So, I don’t know that it’s always necessary to have a ton of DLC to support ongoing game development. It’s all very subjective and varies a lot from game to game.

It will. I’m just salty because I beat the game like 3 times and don’t have the patience for another playthrough.

FenrirIII,

I don’t know if I ever beat the game. I was way too focused on collecting everything on the map, think I got burnt out near the end.

bassomitron, do games w V Rising 1.0 review: one of the slickest survival games gets even slicker

Oh damn, I didn’t realize this was out of EA. I impulse purchased it a couple years ago and it felt pretty lackluster, but I recognized it had a lot of potential so I shelved it rather than refund. Looks like they’ve added a ton of content and gameplay changes, so I’ll definitely check it out again. Hopefully they implement native controller support, as it seems like a perfect candidate for Steam Deck (yes, I know about Steam Input configs, but those are sometimes pretty hacky and don’t feel all that great in a lot of games).

ampersandrew, (edited )
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

I’ll let you know how the controller support is once the game lets me past the title screen, but it’s supposedly got it now.

EDIT: Got in to the game and poked around menus. Some dropdowns don’t appear to be selectable by controller, so hopefully they patch that.

HorreC, do gaming w The Day Before studio say the game's downfall was thanks to "a hate campaign"
@HorreC@kbin.social avatar

Was it the hate campaign that made any of your associated address with the company were never a place you were at? Was it them who used unpaid interns to mod and build the game, then left them out to dry with no support when the hate for the state of the game came in?

Surprised they didn’t throw in the usual death threats spiel too whenever something isn’t well received so attention shifts to pitying them.

    I personally loved the building in the game. At least in 2 it was a lot better. Luckily they ported most of the improvements from 2 into the first game.

    clay_pidgin, do games w Why CCP haven't stopped trying to make an EVE Online shooter for 15 years

    It should be fun. The Fanfest presentations went well and players are cautiously optimistic about Vanguard. Dust was popular, but not successful commercially. In part, that’s because it was a console exclusive that tied to a PC-only main game. If anyone has questions about EVE, let me know.

    Risk,

    Regarding Vanguard - how will it tie in to EVE? Will Vanguard players be able to sell stuff to EVE players for currency?

    clay_pidgin,

    I haven’t heard anything about how vanguard will tie into the economy, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

    There’s a new pirate faction-team-up called "the deathless"and several new pirate ships, and I would imagine that Vanguard players might get faction LP which they could sell or use.

    yokonzo, do games w Baldur's Gate 3 patch 3 releases today and lets you change your appearance and pronouns

    I could have sworn it already had this functionality but I guess I’m wrong

    odium,

    I think that before you could only set it in the character creation screen at the start. Now you can change it anytime.

    GreenMario,

    Starfield does this with it’s plastic surgery shop so I imagine it’s a “hey that’s a good idea” thing for Larian.

    Shalakushka,
    @Shalakushka@kbin.social avatar

    They've been promising this since Patch 1, and changing your appearance is a really common feature in games with a create a character.

    LoafyLemon,

    Now we can role-play a bad guy turning into a good guy and vice versa.

    GreenMario,

    Most games do have limits on it after creation but I did remember just now that the Saints Row series did just this. I just have Starfield on my mind and forgot.

    Ravaja,

    Yeah, I don’t think anyone at Larian is taking notes from Bethesda of all companies

    The implementation is through The Magic Mirror, which is the same thing Divinity: Original Sin 2, their previous game used. So probably less inspired by Starfield.
