The biggest video game stinkers of 2025, according to Metacritic (www.polygon.com) angielski

Everywhere you look right now, there’s a gaggle of nerds foaming at the mouth to share their list of the very best video games of 2025. (And we’re no exception!) But what about the stinkers, the flops, the dead-on-arrival turds? We want to take a few moments to honor the low achievers of 2025, the absolute worst games of the...

Where the heck is black ops 7 on this. Like yea it sold but holy cow the amount of complaints on it.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I just played it, it was super cool concept! I died due to cold but, the enviroment felt really good. I spent most of the time just aimlessly wandering. My only complaint was that the game bogged itself down when toggling the lantern on and off but thats probally an issue on my end! Tell them well done for me 😸

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I wonder why companies do this? does it actually make it get done faster? Last I knew most workers were only efficient at their job for like the first 5 or 6 hours if that, spending an extra 8 ontop of it sounds like a waste of salary.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Honestly, the only one I’m really looking at is Ranch Sim because it’s down to like 2.50, none of the other ones really look all that attractive, to be honest.

Kicking myself for buying Icarus when it was $20 because it’s now 3.50

unpausable cutscenes. Nothing bugs me more than getting interrupted in the middle of a cutscene and not being able to press escape to pause the cutscene. You’re forced to try to split your attention between what interrupted you and the cutscene or restart and see the cutscene from the beginning again.

Extra annoyance points if escape immediately skips the cutscene without any indication it’s going to.

omg yes, I loved when games gave a replay stories or replay core concepts section of the menu, it’s not that hard to add but it lets you recap as well!

‘Clair Obscur’ Leads The Game Awards 2025 Nominees With 12 Nods; ‘Silent Hill f’ Has Four Nominations (bloody-disgusting.com) angielski

Geoff Keighley and company are back again, revealing the nominees for the 2025 edition of The Game Awards, which will stream live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 11, 2025. This year the one to beat is Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which has received 12 nominations, and the...

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

the nominations for most things this year was fairly disappointing. I hadent heard of any of the events, and the content creator one I didn’t watch and only knew of one by name,

I pegged myself as a fairly casual gamer and I do a lot of stream watching but, a good chunk of the games nominated I had never seen or never saw anyone streaming, many I had never heard of. It was surprising since most of my entertainment is via watching people play games or by gaming myself.

Pika, (edited )
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I saw a lot of Silksong and peak; BF6, blue prince, nightrein and there was a passing glance at split fiction I also had 1 creator I follow play death stranding 2 and KD2 one just started e33 last week so I been watching that. The rest fell out of my circle of 40 or 50 streamers.

Note: I technically saw at least 4 people playing silent hill F but didn’t count it as I never saw anyone stream it that wasn’t sponsored so I didn’t feel it was a good representation if it

I decided to go through and mark what I didn’t see

  • Dk bomanza (surprisingly as many were Nintendo fans)
  • .Indiana jones
  • ghost of yotai (surprising because I watch a few souls streamers)
  • hades 2
  • ninja gaiden 4
  • sinobi art of vengence
  • Lego voyagers
  • sonic racing
  • all the fighter category
  • all the vr category
  • abaolum
  • all the mobile games (makes sense)
  • ff14 dawntrail
  • avowed
  • f1 25
  • tempest rising
  • ff tactics (probally cause port)
  • two point museum
  • all the impact category

So looking back, I guess I did see a few of them more than I thought I had, but there was still a good chunk that just never appeared on the creators I followed.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

My only thing with this is the claim is a glass cannon if its true. If no company resources were given out in this ordeal, if I was one of the 40 employees involved I would be leaking the forum messages publicly to show how there wasn’t any inside information involved. Make the entire case fall apart because if it’s shown no public info was involved, the claim it wasn’t over unionization becomes harder to fight. But I guess that is a better situation for in a court scenario.

Is it me or does it seem like review bombing on Steam has become so much worse recently? angielski

It feels like it's really getting out of hand and the language of the negative reviews seems really fake too. I just bought a game that got review bombed and it was fine. From the reviews it sounded like it was going to destroy my graphics card, corrupt my hard drive and be full of bugs. Luckily I watched some gameplay vids and...

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

It’s not just you. Customer curated content in general on steam has gone drastically downhill over the last year or two.

Like review bomb mitigation can only go so far when the company refuses to block people from writing reviews that write enough off topic reviews.

The discussion forums are the same way, its all award farming ever since they released the ability to give steam points to people.

Starbreeze says sorry, reverses price increase on Payday 2 DLC bundle: 'We definitely didn't handle this right' (www.pcgamer.com) angielski

Starbreeze rolled out a new subscription service for Payday 2 DLC yesterday, which struck me as a pretty good deal: $5 per month for every piece of DLC currently available, and you can subscribe and cancel as you see fit. But the launch turned a less-than-flattering spotlight on another recent Payday 2 development: A significant...

Pika, (edited )
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

payday still exists? I haven’t heard of the game in years. I’m surprised they even attempted this as a whole because it sounds like it’s only going to piss off their remaining userbase.

BEING SAID, I think their main issue here isn’t the fact that the price went up in the first place, it’s that they decided to make it almost 25% more as the increase after having it be ~52% off for ages. This rollup should have defo been more gradual if they wanted people to not be pissed about that. An instant 50$ increase in price is a tough amount to swallow for a 12 year old game, regardless of if DLC is involved, even moreso when it boosts the price to $170

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I hadent heard of him until BL4 was released, but man does he seem like a real big piece of work lol

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

honestly, my opinion of epic is starting to improve more and more with every legal case they open., It’s about time someone with money stepped up.

They are bringing what everyone knew was going on into official record and forcing countries to do something about it. I’m rooting for em

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Definitely keep signing, I’m really concerned at the speed it rose , and I’m really hoping there wasn’t something else at play here.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

The argument here is that they don’t need to open source or switch over to an FOSS license.

They just need to not actively prohibit people from doing custom servers and they need to release their own server files wheb their support period ends.

If that ends with violating a license agreement they have with another company that is exclusively a that company problem because as shown in the past, law supercedes agreement and contracts.

It will basically put branding companies at a either they don’t agree to let their stuff be used in games and not get the money for it, or they decide that it really doesn’t matter all that much if a community project can use their stuff. Simple choice

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I mean I wasn’t planning on getting sub 2 after the shitshow that was below zero, the studio is clear they didn’t understand what caused the magic in the first game, and failed at delivery in the second one.

Pika, (edited )
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I think that’s the longest way I’ve ever seen of “Our parent studio decided this game isn’t financially feasible and told us to stop”.

This project is definitely a parent studio decided that they didn’t like the game, so they decided to cancel it. Especially after Vintage Story proved that that type of game will sell, not at the metrics that a studio like Riot would want, but it would sell.

Judging by the graphics in it that they’ve released so far, it definitely looks like they were a good portion into development as well, which is a shame.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I think you might need to reread the rest of my comment, because I think we’re on the same mentality.

I’ve read the article, and I read the last development update, which seemed to be leading in the direction that they had fully intended on making a project.

Their previous update is actually what made me have the mentality that I currently have, not the article you posted.

The previous update was a progress update saying that they were beginning internal testing and they released images of what looked to be a fairly progressed game. And they had seemed super hopeful for the future. That is not an update that screams this project’s on the urge of being shut down.

I stand firm with what I said that this game would have had potential. And while they didn’t make the greatest development decisions, I don’t believe the choice to shutter the project was their choice. That’s a lot of wasted effort for a team like that, and if they lasted this long the choice to close wasn’t theirs.

It’s just the bean counters didn’t like how much it was costing for the game. So once again, what would have been a great addition to the gaming market was squandered due to greed.

This is also why the indie market is starting to take off as well as it is again. Because unlike big corporations and studios, if an indie game starts to show signs of maybe not making a bunch of money, they don’t give a shit and they release the product anyway. Where if a large studio game starts to falter, the parent studio just shuts it down.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Nexus Mods is far too late on the monetization aspect. The restrictions placed on mod downloading sucks, and it hard pushes buying a membership. Not to mention they basically gave up on vortex and its a buggy mess even if you run it native.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I wasn’t aware there was a replacement that was suitable. I will have to look into that soley on the fact there seems to be a linux native release, thank you.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

One interesting detail is that all three games have a delivery-by date that’s a few days past the release date

Ah so basically worthless to a consumer if they wanted it release day then. So this will help existing games, but it’s not going to help anyone who wanted a game release day.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

A price hike, after the new Xbox PC relabel launch?? Absolute shocker I tell you

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

let me just get on that real quick 😂 I’m sure that the lack of people engaged in it doesn’t mean it’s hard or anything.

man if only it was that easy

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Okay so where’s the value here? Like I’m sure the phone numbers are worthwhile but including the 2fa codes with the phone number doesn’t seem like worthfull information, unless steam doesn’t properly have OTP setup and they don’t expire in a timely manner, but I’m willing to bet that a company like steam has a properly configured system

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Steam is one of the few apps that I’m fully okay with having on my phone and using for 2fa. I especially like that when I go to login it’s like Discord where I can scan a QR code to confirm from the App instead of having to type in a number that expires. Like it would be nice to have the other functionality as well but I’m content with their current system

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

yea for real… like I didn’t even know it /was/ being review bombed, but as an avid fan of the Ori series… this puts a real sour taste in my mouth

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I don’t regret buying them, they are good games, but I don’t Condone shitty practices. If you restricted yourself to moral or ethic right companies only you would have nothing to buy sadly. You buying a game != you accepting the ideologies of the leadership of said game.

Just get games you know you enjoy, and ignore all the dramatics that are involved. Life’s to short to lock yourself down with it all.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

IANAL but, If I’m understanding this article right, it sounds like their new terms are going to give them the authority to brick your Nintendo console if you reverse engineer it. If this is the case I firmly expect this is going to be challenged in US courts because if I understand the current laws right, this directly contradicts the end users right to reverse engineer Hardware that they own. Nintendo would be allowed to terminate your account and block access to the network with them over it as that’s something that they actively maintain, however I don’t believe they can legally remove access to a piece of Hardware that you purchased, soley due to the fact that you reverse engineered and installed a third-party software to it.

Now don’t get me wrong, they can definitely refuse warranty if(and only if) that modification caused a malfunction, however it’s a big jump to go from we’re not going to repair your device and you’re no longer allowed to access our Network to this $400 object that you purchased is now a brick.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

For real though, like I don’t see their monetary gain here. The only thing they’re encouraging is people to just not bother buying the switch in the first place in favor of other projects. I believe if they manage to go through with this and actually enforce these new terms, that were just going to see A Renewed effort of a completely independent emulator that can run their games. One that would allow third party modification and firmware

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

discord is not a forum (even if they want it to be with the forum channels), its never been a good location to store information. That being said, its amazing for real time communication unlike forums. I hate that devs use it for FAQ and bug forms and stuff. I stopped reporting bugs if it requires me to join a discord.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I doubt they will find anything copyright wise, patent wise maybe if they had patents for some of the mechanics, but if they don’t already have the mechanics, and try to file post-fact that’s going to backfire.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

that would have been so cool, but I don’t really know how it coulda worked out, like an isolated horror-scape wouldnt allow for char development or anything.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Ironically, I feel the community that is most apt to fall in line with their project goals, and want to support this change, is also the community they are currently outcasting. Personally I stopped using GOG when it stopped working easily on my Debian system. I shouldn’t need to use a third party program to get it to work, and I swear it feels like they intentionally made it so WINE no longer works for it.

For a project that is supposedly for open use and game preservation, they don’t make it easy to actually do so.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

inzoi being no devuno is amazing, I’m super hyped for it, I hope it’s good

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

they said it’s not in it due to restrictions on modding and hindering freedoms, I would assume they have no plans at all for having it any. ore as the rest of the post would fall apart otherwise, but yea i guess take it with a grain of salt if you like. I’m hopeful it won’t have it.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

I have to second this, trying to get gog to work on steam is a royal pain in the butt, it’s like they tried to make it incompatible with WINE, unless it’s part of the lutris library you need to hope a launcher like heroic works. I didn’t have much luck with it but I know many did.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

not to mention they decided to block Linux users back in October. I had very little interest in it in the last 6 or 7 years, but I decided when a friend played it I would try to join, just to be met with performance issues and getting kicked offline due to their anticheat. So stupid. It worked for years in Linux, then they just decide to boot it.

I lost what little interest period in anything GTA from that.

Pika, (edited )
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

My issue with the ruling wasn’t the ruling itself, cause I can understand the argument. It was the non-equal enforcement of it. Games with actual gambling in it were rated lower than a game with the similar aspects but no actual monetary aspects. That’s ridiculous. If you want to make poker 18+, then just do it across the board instead of picking and choosing your ratings.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

It seems he wasn’t banned from Fortnite, just from participating in tournaments. So he may very well cheat in fortnite again, as his account wasn’t banned.

Being said, nice of them to donate the winnings to charity, half expected them to just keep the money.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

This doesn’t bode well.

The last time this happened was when Anonymous hacked PSN and took them down for a month after they went after Geohotz(cant remember the spelling) for jailbreaking/reverse engineering the ps3.

Radio silence like before as well. I hope they weren’t breached again.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Why would you want them to be breached? The only people that are going to be negatively affected by that are the users who was involved in the breach.

Understand hating a company but I find it to be pretty selfish if you’re okay with third party being affected just to fit your personal agenda.

It’s what separates the corporate tiers with the consumer level. The ability to care.

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

What I’m saying is that you have to look at the bigger picture. Not only Sony would be affected by that, back in 2011 when they were breached consumers were charged in the estimated tens of millions of dollars range. A figure that Sony only ended up having to repay about 15 million in settlement fees for after a solid year and a half.

Additionally, Sony still managed to go up in profit that year, despite the PR nightmare out of it. Going up from 1.2 billion after operating costs in 2010 to 1.4 billion after operational costs in 2011 and still made 1.1 billion in 2012 ( after the 172 million in damages was done)

I understand hating big business and their practices as much as the next guy, but I have a hard time getting a sense of satisfaction knowing that at the end of the day the company itself isn’t going to be impacted by the hack more than a small itch, while fucking over the everyday consumer significantly more

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Thank god, this was well overdue. In my opinion though they should have changed the color to be the red backdrop like what they do when the game is incompatible with your system, because people are going to miss that notice since it doesn’t look all that different from the standard Early Access notice

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Just a reminder that no one’s forcing you to spend $100 on the game. If enough people refuse to do so the base cost of the game will go down again. Icarus is my most recent for example, I’ve had it on my wish list for almost a year and a half now, because I wasn’t willing to spend $35 on what that game provided. It’s currently on sale on Steam for $9.

God of War 2018 is currently $20 on PSN

I got Elden ring for $30 a few months back despite the fact that it’s still selling full price at 60.

If y’all are patient and wait they stopped making money on the game which means that they lower the cost to try to incentivize people to buy it.

Plus the first year of sale of a game is The Game’s most important release window, because companies generally will use the first year to decide how popular it was. If enough people refuse to buy the game at their original price point it will destroy their sales metric for the first year which will make it harder on the studio to justify to their parent company that it’s worth making another game, which means that they’re more incentivized to lower the base cost of the game within the first year of launch.

The rate of this is significantly slowed down if everyone is just like oh okay I guess it’s $100 now and then buys it anyway, have patience and hold out, especially a game like GTA 6 where they’re going to gain more money off microtransactions then people actually buying the game. Honestly GTA 6 probably should have just been sold as a free to play because they operate like one

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah, they won’t appear cuz they’re all ignored 😂

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

To be honest, they could launch the game as a 1 MB file that brings you to a black screen that says get fucked, and they would still make their money’s worth just out of the people who will blindly buy the game because they’ve been waiting for GTA 6 for so long that they bought it release day.

And then they could just move back to GTA V pretending nothing happened because the same people that would have impulse purchased GTA 6 with zero research are also the people who play GTA V religiously spending money on the micro transactions there and that isn’t going to cut their addiction

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

This is my ideology as well, not the piracy part but the I refuse to buy a game for more than $30 and that game better have rocked the internet in terms of how amazing it was. For prospective the last game that I purchased for $30 was Elden ring when it went on sale a few months back and the last one prior to that was satisfactory when it launched on epic games

Pika,
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

They offer payment plans for a cell phones I’m waiting for the day that they start offering payment plans to purchase video games. They’ve already trialled with it with the hardware with the Xbox Series X launch with their all access pass, which don’t get me wrong was a great deal but, eventually we are going to hit the point where the everyday person if they want to buy a video game is going to have to do one of those by now pay later plans through like affirm or something, which is a scary thought. As is if it gets much higher than $100 it will qualify for paypals 6-month equal financing deal if you have their credit card, if this change had been just 6 months prior it would have already been qualified for it because they just recently raised their minimum so I think it’s like $120 or $140
