Just finished Pentiment. It was a wonderful, miserable experience. Don’t know how people can stomach multiple playthroughs.

Also just finished Doom Eternal. Mixed feelings overall but I like the idea of the counter-heavy combat system. I just wish they dialed back the number of mechanics a bit.

My current addiction is Kingdom Come: Deliverance. I was skeptical at first but man do I love the immersion in this game. The minigames like alchemy and lockpicking are fun and engaging. The combat is kind of Mordhau-lite which means it requires more thought than just spamming attack. The dialogue is surprisingly funny at times, the story interesting enough, and the voice acting is solid. And I like how the quests aren’t all simply “go to the marker”–you have to actually follow clues and pay attention.

I bought Alan Wake 2 literally a day before the sale, not thinking it would go on sale. And now I’m waiting for a patch anyway because some lighting bugs were introduced in the last patch. Oops. Kinda sucks but I’m still very excited to play it!

I continue to feed my X4 addiction. Picked up the DLC during the Thanksgiving sale. I’m on my second play, about 35 hours in. Realized I’ve made a lot of mistakes, but that’s half the fun.

Jumped back into some Division 2 lately with friends. Been fun power level my mates who aren’t level 40.

I’m playing a game called “eat and drink my childhood trauma.”

xelareko,

I heard this has a pretty rough beginning, but it all turns out okay by the end.

I’m years late but I finally started bravely default and I’m kicking myself for sleeping on it for so long.

World of Warships. Started jumping back into that recently. I dunno why but it’s weirdly peaceful and relaxing for me to play. Might be because I grew up sailing on the ocean due to living on an island.

I do have Alan Wake 2 that I really need to play but I’m also playing Control and Alan Wake 1 at the same time to prepare for AW2. It’s… a lot. But Control I’ve played a half dozen times and will always love. Alan Wake 1 I’ve never actually played but after learning of the shared world in Control I have been meaning to get around to it. Enjoyable so far but I’m barely into it.

Then there’s also God of War Valhalla on the side. Always fun as fuck. Free DLC too. What’s not to love?

Oh and Slay the Spire. Silent go brrrrrr.

flambonkscious,

That’s brilliant, I love it and I’m jealous I wasn’t witty enough to come up with it myself

I absolutely hate DLC that integrates with the main game and gives you OP weapons.

There was one game that the DLC gives you the second best weapon at the start, as a thank you for preordering. But I didn’t preorder, I bought the ultimate edition. So wtf.

Chobbes,

I find the DLCs / preorder bonuses that give you really powerful weapons at the beginning of a game just… bizarre? Like, okay, thank you for the thing that completely ruins the progression?

Grass, do games w i made a speadsheet to get through my backlog a while ago and today i hit my milestone for the year.

That’s a small backlog. Do you have more not listed?

I have a bunch categorized by whether or not I want to do the achievements or not before considering it done, and also if multiple playthroughs are planned or not and why.

I’m also mentally deranged… https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/fdac3da7-0aa4-41fe-b5ae-6f413c5cf36c.jpeghttps://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/f2686835-d50f-45df-b4ef-9c03338ffe6d.jpeghttps://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/7fe26572-f8ea-4044-bcc7-1d9feb13285d.jpeghttps://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/279d00c0-9a40-4cf5-b409-7c64378518c4.jpeg

i’ve 100% a few games but you’re on a totally different level. i really struggle with dark soul like games so it will be interesting to see how far i get before i eventually give up.

Grass,

I find it’s more about patience than anything else. It’s very much an observe the pattern and adjust accordingly kind of gameplay. Also resource (stamina/health) management. I actually couldn’t finish any of them until I had gotten dragged into fighting games by friends that play competitively. Seeing that people could actually adjust their actions on the fly at such ridiculous speeds made me realize I was just button mashing all along. It’s also what made some of the more technical metroidvania games make sense to me.

My achievement showcase was just me going insane while having nothing better to do when I was off work with an injury though…

Should be the SNES one, “A Link to the Past”

Had this conversation with someone on World of Warships the other day…

ericbomb,

Aiming and moving in that game is purposefully a nightmare, you’d think people would have a little sympathy!

Stamets,
@Stamets@lemmy.world avatar

Wait, really? I never had that issue personally. I just kept forgetting to check my surroundings. I’d targetfocus and then forget that there was either other enemies heading straight for me or wouldn’t check the map and would crash into an ally.

I’m not a smart man.
