I somewhat understand what you are talking about but the buggy and poorly maintained Elite Dangerous isn’t the best example to support your argument. BG3 getting a pass on some features for the series S is exactly what other games should be able to do if it makes sense for them.

It’s a shame their new format of yearly expansions doesn’t really allow them to make new elite specializations. Many professions still feel unrealized in certain ways that new weapons can’t fill.

I’m thinking mostly from a fantasy angle. I’ll give some examples from the classes I play:

Warrior: lacks a spec focused on the defensive juggernaut fantasy that you infer from the class description. Hammer Spellbreaker kind of fits here but it’s a bit of a stretch of what a spellbreaker should be thematically. Also lacking is a commander/captain support spec, maybe something built around shouts and/or banners.

Elementalist: why is the only spec not about going in and smacking people in melee tempest? And even then the best weapon is the sword. There’s a reason newbs go in and try to make staff work as a ranged weapon.

Engineer: turret spec please.

Mesmer: maybe mirage kind of fits the core mesmer fantasy, but I’m not sure if the ambushes fit there. The other specs don’t really fit since it’s mostly about doing away with your clones.

I understand your point but you can also be satisfied with an early access game for what it had when you played regardless of later improvements. Valheim is a great example of this: you’ll be hard pressed to find someone that wasn’t satisfied with it, despite being unfinished.

Just an anecdote, but on the ffxiv subreddit and discords I lurk around there have been a LOT of xbox players going through the free trial for the first time. Considering you can play a lot for free and the series S being somewhat cheap, I can see this being a fair boon to the game.

What you say is true but if you followed the reports you’ll know they fired the whole of the blizzard survival team, a good chunk of the Overwatch team and writers/story people from WoW. Very much not only the redundancies.

That feeling ia not at all uncommon. There’s a reason many mmos and even long TV series tend to pull the “now there is an even bigger big bad!”. Just look at WoW, there’s no shortage of people that didn’t enjoy dragonflight due to the lower stakes.

Preface: the things I’ll mention have, for the most part, improved a lot in more recent games.

I default to women nowadays in almost every game I play. A lot of it is because back when I was a kid male characters were basically hulking hairy ogres with your choices of hairstyles being short, spiked punk and bald. For example: one of my favorite games from my youth is KOTOR, and the male faces are incredibly forgetful. It’s all white guy, white guy with a scar, white blond guy and so on. And that doesn’t appeal to me in anyway. On the other hand women got many different options for hairstyles and faces that were cute, which is something I like to be able to be in games. Granted there are a ton of games where the women were just eye candy, and yet that was still more interesting than generic white guy #555.

There’s something very appealing to me in being able to be a cute girl that still kicks ass in the same way as any buff guy in that world.

I hate when equipment looks different depending on the gender using it. Why did those pants becone a skirt? Why did this armor suddenly lose 90% of its plating? Where did the heels come from?

At least the girl armor thing has receded considerably in recent times, so that’s nice.

You mean using AI to design the card’s mechanics? I’d like to think we are still a ways away from that, specially since they’d have to train their on model that adjusts not only for the text generated but what the actual card would do in a game. they could use it for french vanilla cards I suppose, but it’s not like those take a human that long to make anyway.

I have hard time believing they had this great product they just didn’t want to support for a few years. Specially with how Sony has been dead set on having many live service games in its portfolio.
