Big move it’s it’s allowable to be used for any game dev that wants to make the vr set compatible with their game. Crap move if Sony charges to allow devs for compatibility or it’s only compatible with Sony owned games.
Aspyr has done a great job porting a lot of the best Star Wars games to modern systems, including the Wii version of The Force Unleashed for Switch (my favourite version). I’m sure they’re handling this with care.
I have played their ports of The Force Unleashed, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Episode I Racer and Republic Commando on PS4/Switch, all without any issues. Either KOTOR is an outlier or I got very lucky/have low standards.
Don’t know why you’re being negged. They’re “okay” and I do understand why some are negative about them. Overall they’ve done okay with re-bringing back out old games.
But you’re right there’s been some issues with jank, and some anger due to how they dealt with KOTOR 2 DLC and purchases.
The kotor2 remake has also been removed from aspyr.
IMO I’d say wait and see, let the reviews come up, and see if it fits for you.
Can you elaborate on why the Wii to Switch version is your favorite? I played it on 360 back in the day and have it on Steam. I’m curious what the differences are.
I’ve played both but the Wii version first, so that’s probably part of it. But it’s also because the PS3/360/PC version really showcases the physics engine while the Wii version naturally focuses on the motion controls. I just wasn’t very impressed with the physics-centric combat and found it to be more flash than substance, but I really liked how the motion controls were utilized for the lightsaber and force powers. Grabbing enemies with the force choke power and then using the nunchuk controller to toss them around felt especially satisfying.
Feels kind of weird to have a remaster coming long after a total remake. Granted, I don’t think they remade 2-3, just the first one - and it was for the sake of their small trilogy referencing events from the first game. (I think it went, Legend, then Anniversary (Remake), then Underworld, right?)
The original games are so old that it is quite messy to get them to run on PC these days and the remake changed the gameplay quite substantially. So this remaster is quite welcome and probably a lot cheaper to produce than a full 2 and 3 remake.
As for Anniversary, the story there is a bit weird, as Anniversary and Legend are basically completely independent games that have nothing much to do with each other other than the engine. Legend is a reboot and Anniversary is a remake. It’s only with Underworld that the the story of those two get wrangled together into a trilogy. Only the first game is taken into account there, all the other sequels of the original game are ignored.
Very much looking forward to this. Pissed I have to buy it for a third time. Bought original for PC many moons ago. Then the same version on steam. Then the remastered version on steam. And will again be buying the re re re mastered version on steam.
