Defaced, do games w Xbox is still committed to making consoles, says boss Phil Spencer

The only reason they want their games on multiple platforms is so they can prove they’re not trying to buy up studios for exclusivity. This is the main objective here folks. They don’t care about being on more than one platform, they just don’t want to fight the FTC again when they try to buy up sega, square enix, take2, embracer or whoever the fuck they want to buy next. Remember, this is the same arrogant bullshit company that wanted to buy Nintendo and got laughed out of the conference room.

ivanafterall, do games w There are "five Resident Evil games in development right now, including Resident Evil 9", leaker claims

I'm waiting for the RE9 remake.

ArghZombies, do gaming w The history of game hints pages, before the internet took over

I remember waiting a month at a time hoping to see a hint for whatever game I was stuck on, only for it not to be featured - or perhaps even worse; to see a hint for that very game but one I’d already figured out myself! Urgh! Gaming in the 80s / 90s was a challenging affair!

This article also skips over the other option we had back then - premium rate phone numbers that…slowly… read …out …some …barely …relevant …facts …about …the … game …at …£1 …a …minute …with …maybe …the …hint …you …wanted …after …costing …your …parents …a …£12 …phonebill.

ulkesh, (edited ) do gaming w Microsoft quarterly gaming revenue up 49% following Activision purchase
@ulkesh@beehaw.org avatar

An increase of only 49%. Time to fire a couple thousand more people.

Katana314, do games w Bloodborne Kart isn't allowed to be called Bloodborne Kart anymore, but it is still coming

I wonder if this means someone will release a mod that returns names to their trademark-breaching intentions.

Paradachshund, do games w Microsoft to lay off 1900 people across Xbox and Activision Blizzard | Eurogamer

We will provide our full support to those who are impacted during the transition, including severance benefits informed by local employment laws.

Translation: we will give them as little as we are legally allowed to.

This guy can fuck right off. I’m sure he’s wiping away tears with all those benjamins he just raked in.

Kit, do gaming w Microsoft to lay off 1900 people across Xbox and Activision Blizzard

Name a single merger in any industry that didn’t result in layoffs of at least 8% of the workforce.

CharlesReed,

Yep, the moment this acquisition was in talks, you could see this coming from a mile away.

Midnitte,

It’s literally the point, merging companies are a left join, not a full outer join. The entire point is to save money by removing overlap - anyone who doesn’t expect that has no idea how businesses operate.

stoly, do games w Microsoft to lay off 1900 people across Xbox and Activision Blizzard | Eurogamer

This is not unsurprising. In fact, it is fully expected.

bstix, do gaming w The Day Before developer resurfaces to blame failure on "hate campaign"

I enjoy popcorn with this shit show.

The whole thing was poorly managed and there’s nothing they can say now to tell a different tale. I hope the people who put any effort into it gets paid somehow.

KyoStarr, (edited ) do gaming w Monster Hunter Rise update adds Enigma DRM, breaks Steam Deck compatibility
@KyoStarr@kbin.social avatar

This is a bummer, especially with how much better
Rise can perform on the Steam Deck compared to the Switch version. Bad move on Capcom's part.

altima_neo, do gaming w Rocksteady co-founders have formed new AAA studio Hundred Star Games
@altima_neo@lemmy.zip avatar

Now the question is, will we be getting more great games like the old Rocksteady, or will we continue to get crap like Suicide Squad?

KrasMazov, do gaming w Twitch "isn't profitable" admits CEO, in wake of recent layoffs
@KrasMazov@lemmygrad.ml avatar

Fucking doubt it. This is just an excuse for the layoffs. All the big streamers have tons and tons of subs, a lot of users have Twitch Prime since it’s so cheap and they show multiple unskippable ads all the time. Plus, they are owned by Amazon and use their server infrastructure. This is 100% bullshit.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Sounds like Hollywood accounting where the movies with the largest gaps between production costs and ticket sales magically lose money.

Rhynoplaz, do games w You can't talk about 2023 in games without talking about layoffs

Creative Layoffs? In the same year we saw the practical uses of AI blow up? 🤔

PeachMan, do games w Netflix developing over 10 games in-house currently
@PeachMan@lemmy.world avatar

So…11 games? I hate how press releases like this say “over” a certain number rather than just telling us the actual number.

Jinxyface, do gaming w E3 is officially dead

Good riddance. E3 offered nothing over just watching trailers on YT except for the multiple hours of advertisements and marketing pushed throughout the convention.

dangblingus,

The industry only exists in its current form because of hype and fomo.

chloyster,

I mean tbh at the height of the show the press conferences were awesome. The shows didn’t have ads (unless you count the games themselves being ads which like, fair I guess). Idk I loved tuning into the shows and seeing announcement after announcement. Sonys 2016 show was a particular highlight. Having a live orchestra to do all the music even during the trailers was a really cool performance imo. It was more than just trailers
