dom,

Guess they ran their brand too far into the ground. Now they gotta dig up another

dom,

Yeah i know. I meant more in terms of peope who don’t know the way these two are connected.

Atari has had some very sketchy business practices and screwed over consumers a bunch of times. Most people don’t know they are effectively the same company as infogrames

dom,

Many people are not informed for how this stuff works. They see an open world racing game they can play with friends and don’t understand what’s needed to make that happen.

dom,

Get a copy of it now. There may not be more development on it, but you’ll be able to keep playing the games that work already on it

dom,

I play my steam deck WAYYYYYY more than my ps5. And quite a bit more than my switch.

dom,

Indie style game?

As inaccurate as it is to talk abojt publisher size, it is helpful to give ideas to aesthetics and budget. I find myself more interested in smaller games like this, so I pay special attention when the term “indie” is used, even if it’s from a big publisher (child of light is another good example)

I got to play Terra Nil, and here is my two cents on it (lemmy.world) angielski

This year I was recommended Terra Nil, a “reverse city builder” as the developer Free Lives call it in the store page. From screenshots and what gameplay I did see of it, my mind raced to games like SimCity 3000 and the potential of destroying a run down, or decaying city and returning it to nature....

dom,

Man. Such a shame those games came out at the same time with effectively the same name

Players who don't like survival games as a genre: Which survival games are your personal exceptions, which ones have you enjoyed nonetheless and why? angielski

Personally, I really don’t like most of these games due to the tedium and frustration that comes with hunger/thirst mechanics. Most of the exceptions that I do actually like either make up for it through something else that elevates the experience enough - or they either don’t have these mechanics or allow for players to...

dom,

I dont like many survival games, but i enjoyed my time with dont starve and subnautica

dom,

There was also a ton of content added in relatively recent official updates

dom,

Ctr has a good campaign mode. So does sonic racing transformed

dom,

Even saying “oven” as correct threw me off. Ive never called a microwave an oven or a microwave oven. I was like starting to think maybe it wanted a specific brand of oven, or a synonym like stove

dom,

This is alll I ever wanted from steam deck. Time to put my money where my mouth is

  • dom,

With all those people, it sounds like an ultimate showdown about to happen.

I hope Charle Norris stays safe

Well, Cities: Skylines 2 is here, and it's another broken game release. angielski

I don’t really understand how people make the review threads, but we’re sitting at a 77 on OpenCritic right now. Many were worried about game performance after the recommended specs were released, but it looks like it’s even worse than we expected. It sounds like the game is mostly a solid release except for the...

    dom,

The specs until recently were not as intensive but still pointed to the game not being super optimized.

    Minimum was a 780 (3gv)

I expected that buying a 6650 (8gb) would have put me well over the minimum requirements.

    MINIMUM:

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

    OS: Windows® 10 Home 64 Bit

    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-4790K / AMD® Ryzen™ 5 1600X

    Memory: 8 GB RAM

    Graphics: Nvidia® GeForce™ GTX 780 (3GB) or AMD® Radeon™ RX 470 (4GB)

    RECOMMENDED:

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

    OS: Windows® 10 Home 64 Bit | Windows® 11

    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-9700K | AMD® Ryzen™ 5 5600X

    Memory: 16 GB RAM

    Graphics: Nvidia® GeForce™ RTX 2080 Ti (11GB) | AMD® Radeon™ RX 6800 XT (16GB)

    dom,

Thank you for posting this. I would have bought it to play on my steam deck

    dom,

    They won’t

    dom,

A few things come up for me.

An rpg based on wheel or time or storm light archives

Open world top down skyrim-like with combat more akin to ghost of tsushima than traditional 2d zeldas. (As in focus on bad guys, dodge roll, fluid combat)

Modern single player carpg, similar to original forza horizon

    dom,

There are definitely adventures. But even the concept of the powers aligns well to a game. Wouldn’t need to follow thr narrative, but I dont think it would be bad if it did. Would have some cool cut scenes and missions

    dom,

I guess I should learn how to use rails now

    dom,

I dont want faster, I just want a bezeless oled in the same body.

5 Games Made in Godot To UNIFY You (youtu.be) angielski

Godot is a cross-platform, free and open-source game engine released under the permissive MIT license. It was initially developed by Argentine software developers Juan Linietsky and Ariel Manzur for several companies in Latin America prior to its public release in 2014....

    dom,

Ok so if they are now only charging for the first install, why aren’t they just charging an extra fee per sale? Wouldn’t that accomplish effectively the same thing? (And actually work out in unity favour since not everyone who buys a game downloads it)

    dom,

It doesn’t seem right that they can retroactively change their terms and just decide you owe them money. I’m guessing this is legal since they are doing it anyways?

    dom,

The main difference is that if you built your product on their platform, you don’t have the option to pick a different vendor for what you’ve already built like you would for subscriptions or eggs. It feels much more akin to extortion to me.

You built your product on their platform and agreed to the terms they set. Thats a level of commitment you put in. Them changing it afterwards is forcing you to agree to new terms that you wouldn’t agree to if you weren’t forced.

If the issue is using their servers, or keeping the runtime code updates, there should at least be the option of self hosting or locking into an older version.

Having said all that, I know very little about vendor contracts and don’t doubt you when you say legally its the same as any other price change. It feels different because of the lack of choice.

Consumer Nintendo Switch 2 rumored to have more RAM than the Xbox Series S (www.notebookcheck.net) angielski

A new Nintendo Switch 2 rumor has surfaced claiming that the next-generation hybrid console could actually arrive with more memory than a powerful rival like the Microsoft Xbox Series S. The same source has also offered an update in regard to the Switch 2’s potential DLSS support and ray-tracing capabilities.

    dom,

There is a point where more ram doesnt help and maybe that’s what you are thinking of. It’s more “must be this tall to ride” from my understanding

hardware: use TV as a monitor?

Hi all My kid will get a gaming pc soon. I can’t swallow the cost of a whole setup at the moment. I’m thinking of getting a good motherboard with a decent second hand graphics card (a colleague I trust can find me one). And over time upgrade where needed. For monitor I would be using my TV....

    dom,

I’ve done it with an old cheap tv and it sucked and i got ghosting and choppy refresh rate. I’m sure if you get a decent modern tv would be fine though. I’d also want to check latency.

Disclaimer: i don’t know much about anything

    dom,

I really hope they make a steam deck optimized settings like CDpr did with witcher 3

    dom,

I know nothing about this, genuinely curious. Wouldn’t the new content be optional? If so, why couldn’t you just ignore it

    dom,

I bitch about start screens, and proudly.

Well, jsut the garbage start screens that have 80 tiles for you to click on and half are for something you have to pay extra for, or ads for their other games, or their dumb meta coin progression system

Start screens that are just options on a static image? Yes fucking please.

The Weekly 'What are you playing?' Discussion - 17-08-2023 (lemmy.world) angielski

Have you been spending hours trying to pass a level? Or maybe you are completely addicted to a newly bought game. Do you have a question about a game or would like to share something else? In the Weekly Discussion Thread, you can do it all!...

    dom,

I save scum in this play through, but I dont intend to on the next one. Part of the magic is that the game adapts to your bad dice rolls. Just because you succeeded a roll doesn’t mean it’s the “good” option. It’s just a different one.

And the eye horror stuff is really only in the intro (although I’m only 20 hours in so it may come up later)

What is up with Baldur's Gate 3?

This is not a criticism - I love how much attention this game has been getting. I’m just not understanding why BG3 has been blowing up so much. It seems like BG3 is getting more attention than all of Larian’s previous games combined (and maybe all of Obsidian’s recent crpgs as well). Traditionally crpgs have not lit the...

    dom,

You’ve also missed all the hype about the lack of microtransactions. That one is pretty big.

And the bear sex. Although you’d think a sub bullet of point 2, I think its less horniness and more absurdity and “you can do anything”.

It’s the modern equivalent of “see that mountain? You can go there.”

“See that bear? You can fuck it”

    dom,

It’s bear sex without passing Peta off

    dom,

It really is bad design. I have no idea how it became a meme when the criticism is so obviously linked to this

    dom,

The “too much water” was intended to talk about too many water pokemon, as well as the poor navigation of water levels.

To me, when people try to discredit ign because of “too much water” I immediately know their opinion is worthless because they didnt read the review and couldn’t piece together what the criticism was in the first place.

    dom,

I shudder to think what they’ll do for recordest profits

Yet another reason to ditch Musk's Twitter: You can play a crowdsourced Dungeons & Dragons campaign over on Mastodon (www.pcgamer.com) angielski

Through the magic of democracy (Mastodon’s poll function), an account called Dungeons over on the federated Twitter-alternative platform is letting its audience choose their own adventure in an ongoing D&D campaign.

    dom,

Although it is reallt cool, I wouldn’t go so far as calling it a campaign. It looks like you just fight monster after monster and that’s it

    dom,

Eh, even then im sure there was “go to this room” or “buy this from the merchant”

    It wasn’t just

    “Figjt monster”

    “OK he’s dead, new monster”

    “Fight monster”

    dom,

I now want to make like a legit action text adventure for mastodon that has things like coheiege dungeon, a story etc
