AccmRazr, do gaming w The Witcher producer blames Americans and social media for Netflix series' simplified plot

Look at this clown! First, they came out saying they weren’t even fans of the material. You have Henry Cavil in the lead role who is a super fan of the source materials arguing with you and the writers about the show. And then you finish it off by blaming the audience for your decisions. Mind you, the audience you have ultimately attracted is largely influenced by the decisions you have made throughout the production of YOUR show. The audience didn’t make this show, YOU did

deweydecibel,

Is this the same person? This is just an executive producer, not the writer or show runner.

Pretty funny to call out someone for not reading something while simultaneously not reading the article to know who it is you’re even talking about.

Overzeetop,
@Overzeetop@kbin.social avatar

If you're the executive producer, it's your fault that your team members fucked it up. If you cannot find a competent writer to properly express nuance on the screen, it's still your fault. You hired the wrong person to adapt the books. You are the boss, the final say, the one-ass-to-kick when things go wrong. The Witcher is not some nuanced story about regional distinctions in low-visibility communities told in short form, which seems to be his only acclaimed experience, followed by several production failures.

This entire interview comes down to "those lazy zoomers don't know how to appreciate good film." From the description of his past, massive failures it appears to be a problem with his process and ability, not an audience problem.

RandallFlagg, do gaming w Final Fantasy 16 sales did not meet high expectations, says Square Enix president

I’m interested in playing this but I don’t own a PS5 and I’m not buying a whole console for one game. They would have gotten a day 1 sale out of me if they released it on PC.

CIWS-30,

Knowing them, they'll probably do it. It'll just take a year or so.

Edit: that said, they should've done it to start with, and not kept it off of X-box. They're killing their brand and mindshare here.

Gordon_Freeman,
@Gordon_Freeman@kbin.social avatar

FTFY. The PC version was confirmed a long time ago

stopthatgirl7,

Originally, they did plan to release it on PS5 and PC. My guess is Sony made a timed exclusivity deal with them, which Sony had done with companies before. SE shout themselves in the foot by taking it.

QuantumField,

Ditto for me. I have all Final Fantasy games released on PC, but I can’t justify buying a PS5 for a single game. I’ve chosen to watch a let’s play of the game. Glad I did because it’s definitely not a Final Fantasy I’d play a second time.

I could go for a Ganon anti-hero arc and coupling not sure I'd want to put up with a love triangle though.

@spike@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Also only releasing on one console is a relict of the past and misses out on so many sales.

We have the technology to compile to every current gen console + pc with the right engines. Square should release their games for all consoles at once.

combustible_lemon_engineer,

For Series X sure. Given it performance issues on PS5 getting it to run on the Series S might have been pretty challenging.

Darkaga,

And they're not allowed to release it unless on the X if didn't run on the S. See: Baulder's Gate 3

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

But then how will Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo ensure you have to buy their console to play their IPs?

spike,
@spike@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Actual Good Hardware for a reasonable price. Or gimmick control schemes like the ps vita, Wii (U) or occasionally the Switch. I loved the first “The World Ends With You” on the NDS, tried emulating it, but the control scheme without a touch screen and the physical buttons are so weird, I bought a 3DS to relive that masterpiece since my DS Lite died.

The Homeworld 3 demo is impressive and I'm really enjoying Lightyear Frontier as well. Definitely going to buy both when they come out in March. I've been hooked on the Homeworld universe since I started playing it in the 90's (25 years ago! lol I'm old) so it's been quite a long wait but it looks like BBI have done a great job. I've loved them since Hardspace Shipbreaker so I knew this would be something special.

If you're the type who wants to unwind from the hyper-realistic art style of most mainstream games nowadays, while also exploring modern Filipino life and culture through the eyes of a young adult student, the Until Then demo might be up your alley. Aside from the pixelated art style coming from the devs themselves, who are also wholly Filipino themselves, there's quite a substantial attention to detail when it comes to the greater Metro Manila and the suburban locations around, including our local circuses. Oh, and there's also quite a bit of mysteriousness and some philospophy to it, as vaguely evidenced by its Playstation 5 trailer.

Fiivemacs, do gaming w Hundreds of developers say they're working on Nintendo Switch 2

Cause tendo knows they need tos tep up their game to even make a minor dent in the steam deck…Nintendo is just…meh lately. Overpriced, boring and bland.

TwilightVulpine,

Look, I want a Steam Deck from the deepest depths of my heart and I love what it offering... but this take just isn't it. The Steam Deck is said to have sold "multiple millions" of units, lets say generously around 10 million. The Nintendo Switch has sold 132 million units. The Steam Deck couldn't hope to begin threatening the Nintendo Switch.

Though in all fairness, I don't think it needs to. It's much more of a specialized device rather than something you give to your kids.

thingsiplay, do gaming w Bethesda plans to update Starfield "roughly every six weeks starting in February"
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

Just like Cyberpunk 2077, I will wait for this game to be worked on and get it for a discount later. I learned my lesson long time ago, not to buy big AAA games at launch.

curiousaur,

Same. I think cyberpunk is almost done, so I’ll probably grab it when it gets down to half off. We’ll see if Starfield is any good after they finish it in 5 years or so.

Umbrias,

Of course, it’s not just like cyberpunk. Cyberpunk had excellent writing, good pacing, and an overall fascinating story with technically good writing. It just was immersed in a game that had many issues for many people.

Star field is almost the exact opposite, it’s technically functional, with a hollowed out uncooked unseasoned potato for a story.

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

I wasn't saying both games are similar, but more comparing the situation both games not worth buying day 1. Developers adding new functionality, features and iron out bugs and performance issues. If I like the core gameplay and story, that's another story. But just like with Cyberpunk, I will wait for the game being worked on and buy it later for a cheaper price.

Umbrias,

I’m just pointing out that cyberpunks issues were issues fixable with updates.

Starfields issues are writing and character, largely. Gameplay is rough, but not the core issue.

cyanarchy, do gaming w Bethesda plans to update Starfield "roughly every six weeks starting in February"

Gorejelly,

Yea but that’s only because the game has lots of pretty, moving pictures. And the books have pretty covers.

I’m American, so I can’t even read. I noticed some symbols in the show that could be conceived as trying to impart words or ideas, and it just turned me right off.

You might be asking yourself: “If I can’t read, then how did I understand and respond to this topic?”, and I would then respond: “SHUT UP VOICES IN MY HEAD!”

that_one_guy,

Great comment, but could have used a more realistic scenario of using a screen reader/dictation software to comment. It’s okay though, I get that you needed to simplify it for the American audiences.

Yeah, right.

I don’t think any American was like “wow I want a shittier version of the Witcher to watch, that’d be sooo great!”

masterspace,

American test audiences literally said that for I Am Legend which combined with studios unopinionated cowardice caused them to ruin the ending, amongst many, many, many other times that test audiences have given bad artistic feedback.

His anger should probably be focused at the showrunner / studio, but I’m guessing he’s not risking burning those bridges so is instead blaming the only other party in the decision making process, the test audiences.

Judging by your other claim in this thread that Americans have a 20% illiteracy rate, as an American here’s a 20% effort response:

You do have a 20% illiteracy rate, and the response is that American test audiences have ruined very obviously good plots with their stupidity many times before.
