I’m so, so, SO, excited for this. The first Talos Principle is my favourite puzzle game ever. The puzzles were intricate but always fair, the story was surprisingly deep for a puzzle game, and the locations and soundtrack were beautiful and relaxing. I recommend it to everyone who has even the slightest interest in puzzle games.
If the sequel delivers an experience that’s on par with the previous entry, we’re in for a treat.
I wonder what the story will be, though. The first one had a very satisfying ending, and I hope the sequel will build upon it in interesting ways.
Wow, did not expect it. I am torn now. The original felt self-contained, compete, the story ended properly. Can they really continue the story in a compelling way? Or are they making an alternative story unrelated to the original? I loved the OG so much, I hope they won’t screw it up.
But mostly it was about the puzzles and how Croteam (???) figured out how to couple every single mechanic in such incredibly interesting ways. There weren’t hidden mechanics you had to learn. It was all about learning a new trick to solve a puzzle and then realizing you could have done that two hours ago… and then finding a secret.
And if they think they have enough new mechanics/ideas? I am all for it.
I agree, but I would say the story was central to gluing everything together. I don’t know if I would have been as invested as I was if it was a worse story and just great puzzles. So now I wonder what they are going to do story-wise. Still, I’m more excited about this than another Serious Sam =) btw, the most hidden mechanic I learned was that you can use a 3rd person view, which I preferred much more than 1st person
They’ve had a good native linux build for the first one, and it was one of the first games in my library to have vulkan support. I’d be surprised if it didn’t have really good linux support
Hey, how did the Vulkan compat go for you?
The game used to run beautifully for me, then when the Vulkan update dropped it became a stuttery slow mess. Haven’t tried it again in a while…
How exciting! I grabbed the the first game knowing nothing about it during a major sale years ago and it re-ignited a love for puzzle games I hadn't experienced since the original Portal. Definitely picking this up!
Same! The first one was one of those games where the story was kind of a nonsense excuse for interesting puzzles until it wasn’t and I totally got sucked in and started reading all the files and documents I could.
I still want to look into some reviews, but I’ll probably end up buying Phantom Liberty. The 2.0 update has been a lot of fun for me. The rebalancing of weapons, perks, and cyberware has made my build a lot less boring. It was too OP ik the end game, being able to basically kill all enemies without them seeing me. But now my sniper cannot shoot through walls anymore and I constantly run out of quickhack RAM which forces me to use health for quickhacks instead using the overdrive ability.
The police chases are also good fun. It makes the city feel a lot more dynamic. The police will basically engage anything that hurts them. So you can get them to resolve their own NCPD sidequest thingies by leading them into a crime scene with other enemies. They’ll also shoot at civilians or each other. This lead to a peak America moment where a civilian car got launched in a car crash, and because it hurt one officer all the police in the area started shooting this poor civilian car that was flying through the air. It’s been a lot of fun to just drive around and mess with the police system.
