I hope they have a VR version like the first one. Playing it in VR is a whole different experience.

I’m so, so, SO, excited for this. The first Talos Principle is my favourite puzzle game ever. The puzzles were intricate but always fair, the story was surprisingly deep for a puzzle game, and the locations and soundtrack were beautiful and relaxing. I recommend it to everyone who has even the slightest interest in puzzle games.

If the sequel delivers an experience that’s on par with the previous entry, we’re in for a treat.

I wonder what the story will be, though. The first one had a very satisfying ending, and I hope the sequel will build upon it in interesting ways.

And so soon!

Wow, did not expect it. I am torn now. The original felt self-contained, compete, the story ended properly. Can they really continue the story in a compelling way? Or are they making an alternative story unrelated to the original? I loved the OG so much, I hope they won’t screw it up.

Puzzle_Sluts_4Ever,

I mean, the story was shockingly interesting.

But mostly it was about the puzzles and how Croteam (???) figured out how to couple every single mechanic in such incredibly interesting ways. There weren’t hidden mechanics you had to learn. It was all about learning a new trick to solve a puzzle and then realizing you could have done that two hours ago… and then finding a secret.

And if they think they have enough new mechanics/ideas? I am all for it.

nodimetotie,

I agree, but I would say the story was central to gluing everything together. I don’t know if I would have been as invested as I was if it was a worse story and just great puzzles. So now I wonder what they are going to do story-wise. Still, I’m more excited about this than another Serious Sam =) btw, the most hidden mechanic I learned was that you can use a 3rd person view, which I preferred much more than 1st person

Excellent. Talos was one of my favourite games. Can’t wait to try this

Yesssssss! I love this game. It’s very rare for me to 100% a game, but this is it. Then they add new stuff and I 100% it again!

Yes, can’t wait to play this!

Anyone hear anything about Steam Deck compatibility/performance?

brian,

They’ve had a good native linux build for the first one, and it was one of the first games in my library to have vulkan support. I’d be surprised if it didn’t have really good linux support

@wasabi@feddit.de avatar

Serious Sam 4 doesn’t perform too well on the deck, though.

LiveLM,

Hey, how did the Vulkan compat go for you?
The game used to run beautifully for me, then when the Vulkan update dropped it became a stuttery slow mess. Haven’t tried it again in a while…

brian,

I haven’t tried it since it was a separate version, but I didn’t notice any issues at all

How exciting! I grabbed the the first game knowing nothing about it during a major sale years ago and it re-ignited a love for puzzle games I hadn't experienced since the original Portal. Definitely picking this up!

TurnItOff_OnAgain,

Check out Relicta. Played this in gamepass last year and ended up loving it.

bl00dmeat,

Looks like an awesome rec, added to the wishlist!

Slappula,

Looks like it might have been Games with Gold (not Gamepass). I couldn’t find it on GP but it was GwG last year.

TurnItOff_OnAgain,

Oops, yes it was games with gold. Still worth buying if you like 3d puzzle games Ala talos principal and portal.

dpkonofa,

Same! The first one was one of those games where the story was kind of a nonsense excuse for interesting puzzles until it wasn’t and I totally got sucked in and started reading all the files and documents I could.

Really excited for this!

Oh man, this game is gonna be a blast! I had so much fun with the first one!

I’m honestly more excited about this than a Portal 3 announcement! :) Loved both the puzzles and the story / vibe of the first one!

Decoy321,

Wait wait wait, there’s actionable news about Portal 3? I figured that was as likely as getting Half Life 3.

ArmoredCavalry,
@ArmoredCavalry@lemmy.world avatar

Sorry, not that I know of! Poor phrasing on my part, should have said “more excited than if there were a Portal 3 announcement”.

Decoy321,

It’s all good. I hereby forgive you for giving me hope, then snatching it away from me.

gerryflap, do games w Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty — Official Launch Trailer
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

I still want to look into some reviews, but I’ll probably end up buying Phantom Liberty. The 2.0 update has been a lot of fun for me. The rebalancing of weapons, perks, and cyberware has made my build a lot less boring. It was too OP ik the end game, being able to basically kill all enemies without them seeing me. But now my sniper cannot shoot through walls anymore and I constantly run out of quickhack RAM which forces me to use health for quickhacks instead using the overdrive ability.

The police chases are also good fun. It makes the city feel a lot more dynamic. The police will basically engage anything that hurts them. So you can get them to resolve their own NCPD sidequest thingies by leading them into a crime scene with other enemies. They’ll also shoot at civilians or each other. This lead to a peak America moment where a civilian car got launched in a car crash, and because it hurt one officer all the police in the area started shooting this poor civilian car that was flying through the air. It’s been a lot of fun to just drive around and mess with the police system.

I’d play it,looks great!

MJBrune, do gaming w Does CS2 Sub Tick Solve The Tick Rate Debate?

One of the drawbacks of this system is that the client effects and the actual actions are now separated. Before you click, the next tick would happen, your input would be collected from the OS, actioned, and the effects would be triggered. Now, you click, and it’s immediately recorded into a record with its location and direction with a timestamp, the next time a tick happens the effects play. This means the input might feel a bit different due to that separation. It is possible to shoot in between renderings. So you are essentially shooting blind. This is where input might feel weird.

In CSGO if you ever catch yourself clicking that millisecond before you render, knowing that your crosshair will be on the right exact pixel in the next frame you get, and thus getting a headshot, that will now miss.
