This looks pretty good.

ExtraMedicated, do games w Nine Sols - Official Release Date Trailer

This reminds me of 8Doors: Arum’s Afterlife. I’ll definitely want to check this out.

technomad,

The only similarities I’m seeing is Japanese, and metroidvania. That game looks cool too though, and I appreciate the hand drawn aesthetic. Have you played it?

ExtraMedicated,

Yes. It seemed pretty standard at first, but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit.

Wow, Looks impressive. I’m not for this type of early testing, but I hope he gets enough feedback to make the gameplay fun and interesting.

Definitely will check out this round of testing. I’ve had my eye on this project for a while. Great to see the progress made despite switching engine.

Hubi, do games w Road to Vostok | Public Demo 2

Looks promising. You rarely see Godot games with graphics like these.

jroid8, do games w Rain World: The Watcher | Reveal Trailer

When I was playing Rain World a few months ago I wasn’t expecting for it to become one of my all time favorites. Just moments ago I also expected downpour to be Rain World’s only DLC. Video Cult never fails to subvert my expectations.

Hubi, do games w How One Modder changed Watch_Dogs Forever

I had no idea this game still had such an active community. I remember being so disappointed by the wasted potential when it came out and this mod seems to restore the original vision the devs had for the game before Ubisoft forced them to cut corners. Very impressive for a title that did not have official mod support.

Legion was pretty good IMO. At least they got better with each sequel.

Manalith,

Personally still think 2 was the overall best, there were a lot of mechanics I wish made it to legion

Hubi,

I genuinely tried to like the second game but the characters were so cringey that I just couldn’t make it past the first missions.

all-knight-party,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

I think I was just happy to see a cast of characters with some energy and personality, so I wasn't too bothered by the cringe, the whole thing was so overly corny and light in tone that my brain just registered it as straight camp and went from there

Zahille7,

Pretty much. But it works.

I mean Wrench is probably the best supporting character in any of those games (and I haven’t even played Legion).

klisurovi4,

The map and gameplay of WD2 are great, but I absolutely hated the story-gameplay dissonance. “Oh, we are just a bunch of nice, happy hacker kids, we want to get more social media followers… Let’s murder half of the San Francisco police force and literally thousands of criminals”. I am aware the game has non-lethal options, but they make playing much more of a slog and unlike WD1, this game does nothing to encourage using them. Ubisoft removed the morality system because everybody hated it in the first game, but ironically it would have fit much better in WD2 imo.

Lojcs,

I remember taser being a significantly better weapon than everything else? It one shots enemies on the body and doesn’t make noise.

makyo,

I liked Legion and have a likely unpopular opinion that they did cyberpunk better than Cyberpunk did. The sandbox world of hacking and controlling different things was fantastically fun. I really wished at least that self-driving cars would have made it to Cyberpunk too. That was a blast.

Didn’t like the story or writing too much tho and the voice acting was horrendous which is obvously where Cyberpunk excels.

vrighter,

legion took the best parts of 2, and threw them away. It was quite disappointing

I have this on my to do list for years now, I guess this is a good time to start. This mod looks impressive!

Is the driving fixed? I literally couldn’t drive in this game and gave up after 30 minutes of gameplay many years ago.

dragontamer, do games w Sega is killing Puyo Puyo

That’s a lot of ranting.

I get it. PuyoPuyo main story is necessary for casuals to get introduced to the game. Chaining 10+ long while harassing is a skill that took me a literal decade to reach, and there are far stronger players than me at the game.

But PuyoPuyo Tetris was that big casual story driven game that truly did bring a lot of players into the scene. Myself included. So yeah, I wouldn’t be a serious PuyoPuyo without that.

PuyoPuyo Champions/eSports is pretty good for competitive players. We got Fever and Tsu mode, the main modes that people care about.

There are also more casual mobile games like that Apple Arcade one brought up. The real issue is that modern video games make money from Apple and Android stores, not really the consoles anymore.

missingno,
@missingno@kbin.social avatar

While my 2021 essay did aim to be as thorough as I could in criticizing PPT itself, all of my criticism of the game is secondary to my greater criticism of how Sega handled the series afterward. I wonder if being too thorough may have caused that thesis to be lost in the woods, but I hope this video today hammers that point back home.

If Sega had followed up PPT1 with a full mainline game, using its commercial success as a jumping off point for the series to go onto bigger and better things, I wouldn't be so frustrated today. But instead of doing that... we got Apple Arcade.

dragontamer,

Mobile games just make more money now than console games. It only makes sense to aim for casual gamers on the Apple Arcade or Android Play store.

It’s a problem in that it somewhat alienates the hardcore console players. But the console market is shrinking. That’s true for all fanbases, not just PuyoPuyo.

The only stuff that gets money in the console market are super mega AAA games that reach millions, like FFVII remake. But these mega-games cost so much that there’s no risk or creativity anymore. (I like PuyoPuyo Tetris’s style, it was a risk and a bit different. We need game makers to take risks like that)

brsrklf, do games w Sega is killing Puyo Puyo

Long-time casual player of the 8 and 16-bit Compile games (mostly through emulation), I’m not even sure I’ve ever seen a SEGA-developped Puyo for any platform in retail before Puyo Puyo Tetris. Seems like they barely existed at all where I live.

So I’m not sure Puyo Puyo Tetris is to blame for the state of the game, at least it made a lot of people aware that the game exists. Though I can’t say I’m a big fan of its aesthetics or writing…

Nowadays whenever I want to play some quick Puyo I just play Tsu on switch online SNES.

CaptainSpaceman, do games w [PyottDesign] Ultimate FPS Controller Design and Build

False, ultimate FPS controller is board+mouse

slumberlust,

Is that why every Apex player switched from mouse to controller?

CaptainSpaceman,

Controller adds aim assist in most games?

ncesc.com/…/why-do-controller-players-get-aim-ass…

Why do controller players get aim assist?

Aim assist is a feature designed to compensate for the inherent challenges of aiming with a controller compared to a mouse and keyboard.

Chee_Koala,

Ever since cross play became ubiquitous, the aim assist has been increasing and increasing. I was playing BF 1 on my Steam Deck and thought I accidentally did speed and coke, I was playing so well! Then I remembered I play mouse + keyboard normally.

GoodEye8,

Yeah, the aim assist is getting stupid. I returned to The Finals when the new season released and the game had defaulted to cross play on. For the first few days I thought I had completely forgotten how to shoot, I couldn’t win a fight even if my life depended on it. It felt like everyone was laser-beaming and my guns had recoil. Eventually I noticed a spectator cam where aim assist was obvious and I understood I have cross play on. Turned it off and I instantly went from bottom of the scoreboard to being at least decent.

From now on cross play always stays off. I don’t have the time to get my aim to a level where I could compete with aim assist.

dumpsterlid,

I mean I get it, auto-aim can be frustrating, especially if you can’t find a game you like that doesn’t have it, but on the other hand a bit of good auto-aim de-emphasizes just being extremely good at aiming which makes every other aspect of the game more important and satisfying to master, which I think you can make a good argument for being a good thing when it is done right.

Rai,

Apex’s aim assist is laser aimbot. It’s insane.

Hadriscus,

Yes, as far as I know

lemmy_at_em,

The video even concludes with that point. He was still 10-20% more accurate with a keyboard and mouse than either controller. But I thought his point about the controller being more intuitive and versatile for movement than a keyboard was interesting.

GBU_28,

I wonder how much default exposure plays in.

As in, the default computer experience is m kb. So you have tons of passive practice, just doing normal computer stuff.

So the fairest comparison would require impossible things, like raising someone to use a controller like this an equal amount to m+kb, over the same developmental years, etc

woelkchen,
@woelkchen@lemmy.world avatar

But I thought his point about the controller being more intuitive and versatile for movement than a keyboard was interesting.

Others had the same thought long ago which is why for example Razer has “gaming keypads” with analog input for movement:

https://techaeris.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/razer-tartarus-v2.jpg

www.razer.com/shop/keyboards/gaming-keypads

Rai,

The thumb pad/joystick is not analog, it’s a standard directional pad when you pop the joystick off. I use it for four extra buttons (usually menu buttons)

That said, been using hand keyboards forEVER (Tartarus 2, Orbweaver chroma, Orbweaver, Nostromo, and some belkin one that’s basically the Nostromo) and they’re AMAZING.

Hadriscus,

I could have been fooled ! Know of any one of those that sports an analog stick ?

Rai,

I don’t! I wish I did, but to be honest it wouldn’t feel good to play with a controller like tusk and your thumb. I’ve played SNES games with my thumb and it felt… wrong.

Still, these hand keyboards are SO GOOD. I wish lore companies made them. The ergonomics of the Tartarus 2 are perfect, and it’s so nice to have one big profile and not have to fuck with keybinds in-game, ever.

Hadriscus,

Yea I was hoping I could have the best of both worlds but if the stick isn’t analog it’s all moot. Thanks for your feedback. I’ll probably keep using my macropad for the time being

woelkchen,
@woelkchen@lemmy.world avatar

The Razer website says something about analog inputs using light sensors.🤷

Rai,

Oh! That refers to the keys. They’re like… pressure sensitive on the new one, which is neat! I have the Tartarus v2, which has standard keys. The thumb stick is a standard D-Pad on em both, though.

woelkchen,
@woelkchen@lemmy.world avatar

A stick being only a standard d-pad is kinda dumb…

Rai,

FULLY agree. You can pop it off and use the DPad as a… DPad, though, which is what I’ve always done.

…except for the Orbweaver Chroma, which has a non-removable 8-direction joystick, which is VERY dumb.
