I’m really frustrated with how almost every new game these days is being forced into this “live service” model. It seems like no matter what type of game you want to play—whether it’s an RPG, shooter, or even something traditionally single-player—you’re stuck with always-online requirements. And for what? It adds...
Wow, this is awful. Some people reported that these ads are also very petty and not necessarily related to the game, like apparently Elden Ring shows an ad for a licensed mousepad when you hover over the game now…...
It’s upsetting how news outlets can now call anything an ad to generate outrage and people here just eat it up. Something about that word seems to turn people’s brains off and they start commenting misinformation.
This is:
A feature to show you news from the game you’re about to play.
Badly designed since it can’t be turned off and it covers the entire screen.
Prone to abuse for ads.
This is not:
An ad.
A money making venture by sony.
Unique to playstation.
On other news, welcome to my blog adshittification. The blog that uncovers the sinister truth about the ads being shown in your throat! This week’s highlights:
Got hdr to work in Dark Souls 2 with the graphics overhaul mod and finished getting the 4 big Souls.
Got tired of the difficulty of Dark Souls 2 and decided to start a new random shooter from my library… Devil Daggers
Had a management sim itch and gave another shot at FTL, never got to win. Half the time I lost in a single encounter to things like never landing a shot on the enemy ship due to shields + misses or 7 people teleporting to my ship and wrecking havok. Other times I got too greedy.
Tried to figure out which way to go next in Dark Solus 2 by checking the wiki but kept getting sidetracked by things I might’ve missed.
Also tried to quench the management itch with shapez, but didn’t like it much. Just made me crave the factorio dlc more. Amazing music though
As spotted by Windows Central, though, Jyamma CEO Jacky Greco later went into additional detail on Discord. Following a community manager’s statement dismissing speculation the studio had been “paid by Sony”, Greco shared his own frustrations relating to the delay. “You can ask Xbox why they haven’t answered us for two...
Jyamma Games also said it was no longer planning to launch Enotria: The Last Song on Xbox alongside other platforms. This is to ensure “a superior experience for PC and PS5 players,” Jyamma Games CEO Giacomo Greco wrote in a statement on Steam. The exec suggested the studio will reassess an Xbox release once the game has launched elsewhere.
Maybe Xbox didn’t like the second class citizen treatment
Hey everyone, I’m a big player of Space Games of all forms, and this mini-genre (or ‘theme’, if you prefer) really has a TON of range and depth, and is a very fertile ground for indie and unique projects. I was recently playing a game called Avorion, after owning it for years without ever really engaging with it, and...
How fast do they think internet connections are? If the higher quality assets were that big compared to the 300 GB install no way they’re going to finish loading or fit in the memory while you’re playing the game
I’ve never played a soulslike games because they are a bit intimidating to me. Amy recommendations for soulslikes games to start on or for beginners to the genre?
I haven’t played ds2 or 3 yet, but found ds1 to be easier than fallen order / sekiro with how you can level up your way through tough enemies even if you dont take the intended route
I 'd like to get some AA (not AAA) games to play as I tend to like games in thst category the most. If anyone has good suggestions, or better a full list of games to check out, that would be very appreciated....
I’m not sure what your definition of AA is so this might not be helpful to you, but here’s what I’d consider so:
Supergiant games, most Lego games, Telltale games, Klei games, most of the open world survival craft genre, Chorus, Alan Wake, Darkest Dungeon 1/2, Doom and other boomer shooters, most platformers (a hat in time, Celeste, ori, mirror’s edge etc.), risk of rain 2, disco elysium, most metroidvanias (hallow knight, hyper light drifter), older titles in some AAA game series / older AAA games in general…
I’ll never understand people jumping to play unfinished games. There’s no way most of those 100k people are actually going to participate in the ea feedback / qa process, so all they’re achieving by playing early is spoiling the game for themselves with an inferior version. It’s not like this is made by an inexperienced studio that might keep it in ea indefinitely neither, you literally just need to wait a year to play it when it’s released. /r
What made you think I want people to quit having fun? If anything it would be more fun to play once it’s finished, and it’s not like there’s a shortage of games to play in the meanwhile.
Edit: I just want people to give more thought into the games they play than “whatever’s on top of steam today”. Just because it became available now doesn’t mean you have to play it right away.

I have an urge to buy some of them on steam before they get delisted but don’t want to give any money to wb in the process. The way that apparently devs could just leave or sell/give away the game on other platforms made me think maybe wb doesn’t get a cut of every sale. Does anyone know that for certain?
which is why there are no browsers other than Safari
Wasn’t that explicitly forbidden? Browsers don’t need jit to be fast enough
Edit: was jit explicitly forbidden? Or is it that running dynamically loaded code was forbidden in general and jit falls under that category? If they’re letting emulators and other browser engines in that ban seems to be at least partially lifted
Ign or strategy wiki are my first go when I’m stuck at a game. I can’t skim videos and game wikis usually have more information than what I want at that moment (spoilers and such).
are they actually independent, or do they depend on someone else for that monetary/technical/marketing support.
People don’t look at that because that’s not a useful metric. All the big publishers have their own studios so most things they publish are ‘independent’ by that definition, but they are the very thing people try to exclude when they say indie. In the indie definitions of both music and films, it is stated that they are independent from the established distributors, not that they are entirely self-distributed. It’s unreasonable to expect that from indie games.
And conversely for ‘independent’ to have any meaning it mustn’t include those who are in a position where others could depend on them whether through money, name recognition or some other thing. CDPR for instance, by the merit of being very well known and owning one of the most popular online stores is absolutely not an independent studio.
Edit: furthermore even when a large distributor is involved for marketing etc, this doesn’t mean the production of the art can’t still be largely independent.
I wanna get into 2d games a bit more. Mainly things like RPGs or metroidvanias (or just single palywr games in general) For devices I can emulate older systems and I also have a switch. Any recommendations?

Searching for that the only thing that comes up is a repo with half life / doom / quake branches. There’s no documentation on how to use the library for other games and most github issues seem to be about those games instead of the library. Am I looking at the right thing?
State of decay 2 lethal difficulty. You pretty much can’t fast search. You can’t have a follower because they start brawls needlessly by attacking zombies and they don’t disengage, making running away from brawls impossible. And without a follower a feral spotting you is pretty much a death sentence. Add the insane food usage, overly eager plague hearts / sieges and the undying hostile npcs and I have no idea how people play that
Edit: 2.5-3.5x faster cpu and 2x faster gpu at slightly higher tdp (23W vs 19W). Even if the arm x86 emulation has 40% overhead it’d still be faster and more efficient especially at lower power limits where arm shines.
This is not based on benchmarks from qualcomm, it’s based on benchmarks revievers ran on demo units.
You don’t need to shift the software to work on arm. Most essential things already work and the ones that don’t can be emulated. All valve needs to do is to make it seamless. And unless they also switch to arm its a long shot for amd to achieve a 2x uplift in a single generation.
