Wow… such incompetence.

Also, wow some people’s hobbies… checking memory allocations and kernel behavior.

You forgot to set the language buddy.

The idea is to get people into your walled garden and then milk them for everything it’s worth. Roblox does a good job gaming wise… kids spend hours playing many different games but never leave Roblox. So the hunt for the solution that can improve on this, is on. If you can get people to order their groceries from within your walled garden and take a cut… you’re golden.

@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

For sure… but this is like chasing the dream. And in china they have an everything app… so … they keep pooring billions into these bottemless pits.

Edit: I also think most people don’t trust corporations to get them the best deal. So if you ask Amazon to get you product X … they will fuck you on price.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Who is these people that want this? And even if they do. Creating a good game does not need 500 people. And if you want to provide content after setup several small parallel teams to make cosmetics and stuff.

But the whole live service is something the companies want. So they can keep monetizing it and turn if off once a new iteration is done.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

It’s like they exist in an alternate reality. But then I’m fine with that too. If there is a market for that… just a shame that the hunt for this audience eats up everything else.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

I’m sure this will do wonders for morale. Are they paying people overtime for these extra days or is it free labor demanded based on unrealistic deadlines? Nope… just time off.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Should be time and a half or double… even if pto…

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, agreed. When the game was in its initial round of getting money I spent some money on it, knowing it was a bet. Since then the drama has unfolded and I’m just very interested in how it will unfold.

Since then I have not stopped spending money on some select early access, but simply from the perspective that I’ll sponsor development and hope it goes somewhere. I’ll even sometimes try and give feedback, although nowadays a lot is in discord… and I refuse to yell into that void.

Back to the topic… It’s silly that a company like this still ends up in time crunch before an annual event they plan themselves… and the shadiness of giving pto only after launch and if you are with the company. Hell then they should give pto then and equity now… they are requiring their staff to invest in the company and offering 1:1 pto in compensation… that’s not compensation… that’s theft… as time in the future is less valuable than time now.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Because actually optimizing games is hard, but hiring many graphic artists to make it look pretty not so much.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

In the EU we use SEPA and transfers are instantaneous. Used it when buying something of our local ebay when at the person’s house. Also most banks even have Venmo style payment systems… scan qr of your bank, click on my banks icon, authorize, done.

Companies sit on cash simply for cashflow reasons. Keeping the money in your account for an additional x days means it can be used for other stuff.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

But you don’t really need a 4070 for gaming. Just like you don’t need a F150 to drive to work (most people don’t at least). Plenty of lower end hardware does the job well. Over the course of the systems lifetime a PC can be very competitive in terms of prices for games. And it can be used for more than just gaming.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Sont forget that pc games have faster, more frequent and longer updates, cross storefront multiplayer and quickly cost a lot less than at launch.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

In terms of touch screen control. The phone will just be the processing unit. It will wirelessly Stream the video to your tv while accepting controllers and other ik devices via bluetooth. Maybe with a switch like cradle. And I can’t play a lot of games with a controller… but my kids play fine with one… also on the touch screen. It’s what you are used to I guess.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

And games are gimped on gamepass. When palworld released I had to purchase it on steam anyway to be able to play with my buddies. Also patches are late. Very late. I will not be renewing.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Great, now do total war:Warhammer 40k. I want to throw space marines with lightnighclaws into hordes of Tyranids and March a necron army across eldar plains.

Devs should not be "forced to run on a treadmill until their mental or physical health breaks", says publisher of Manor Lords, citing how gamers seem to be trained to expect endless content work now (www.eurogamer.net) angielski

This really does not sound healthy. The game is released, for a certain amount of money. If people don’t like what they get for their money, they simply should not buy it....

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Excellent write up by the publisher and good that they warned Greg of the shit storm ahead.

I bought it, played it. It was already fun. The patches fixed some of the issues that made playing it not fun… so good choices there. I left him some small feedback on the game and some words of encouragement in the hopes that helps.

I hope he can continue his development to deliver his vision for the game. I feel like I got my moneys worth already and I’ll spin it up when the next series of updates are done.

Till that time I just saw Timberborn (another one of these jewels) had a cool update so I’ll go and try that or one of the mysiad of other cool Early Access games that still receive a lot of love.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think it is targeted at you or me. Ofc there are some gamers out there that would be whipping the dev given the chance.

But the main issue seems to be unrealistic and poorly managed expectations. From management, devs themselves and gamers.

I think the silent majority knows what they are getting into and understand sometimes you buy a melon, but mostly devs just take longer than people want.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think we are idiots for buying certain early access games. I personally judge games based on the state they are in at the moment they are offered and take some of the promises into account. But also so far I have had relatively little issues beyond game balancing etc with many games. And usually crash issues get fixed quick.

The satisfactory devs have a good interaction with their community and manage expectations properly.

So in this case the dev could take an hour every other week and write a blog post or something. That was also a good way the dev of banished used to do it.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

How is the quality of life now? When we played we had stuck palls the entire time in our base. And base building more interesting now?

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Sorry… I was more asking in general. I watched the trailer… some cool looking stuff in there.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Enshrouded, under a rock… I have some hopes for some good new stuff… but nothing from the VC game studios.

Tiny glade looks lovely

Badeendje, (edited )
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Jeez, I wish I could downvote you twice.

Conflating Pokemon and genocide really reduces the value of genocide. That it might be a tongue in cheek accusation towards our livestock and animal treatments … but genocide.

Like calling everyone Hitler and a nazi. Or groomer or…

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

These triple a stile developments are managed into the ground.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

That looks pretty slick. Now let’s hope the gameplay is fun and they manage to foster a proper community.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

So then why not relist them and sell your game on a bigger market? The answer is probably because they will try again.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t buy that… I would have when this just started… just a stupid decision made by an MBA that only thinks of his MAU and DAU (Monthly /Daily Active Users) metrics for the playstation network.

But once shit hit the fan, some big shot corpo started making central decisions from the comfort of his volcano base while petting his white cat.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

If they would have put up a banner in the game or a popup every log in stating …

“Sony account requirement temporarily suspended.

Please note that in a future update this will be a hard requirement and you will not be able to play Helldivers without a PSN account”.

Then this would not have been an issue. The question is if their game would have gotten as big as it did. I’ll bet ‘no’.

Also how fucking lame is the playstation network that they still cannot handle proper game launches… ffs this should be a non issue by now. The servers that handle this should be setup to spin up and down clones when needed… But nooooo that costs extra money.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Absolutely. The region not being limited is a big indicator on intent. Or it’s the dev that “forgot” and got more sales.

I’m curious how many copies are sold in regions no longer supported.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

If the strategy is looking at “what most people use” and “what is overrepresented in the win stats” you will always end up nerfing what is fun and popular.

So I’d suggest smaller changes… off course fix bugs and stuff that does not work as intended… but balance a weapon … and go on to the next. Also decide what a weapon is supposed to do… sniper shotguns should not exist… neither CQB dmr’s.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

The team reloads should not require the teammate to wear the backpack. I’ll bet it would be used more then.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Illegal and out of their jurisdiction

Illegal means against the law… so no.
Out of their jurisdiction, Steam is Valve’s platform, so no again.

Valve is the seller in this case, who will be liable for the agreement they have with their customers. If one of their sold product is going to end up massively refunded, who do you think will be processing these? Then Valve has to turn around and get the money from Sony… guess how Valve estimates that will go.

So step 1 for Valve is limit exposure by stopping sales where you expect issues.
Step 2 is analyzing the potential for refunds in other countries and limiting there as well if deemed to big a risk.

I can only imagine that feedback from Valve to Sony played a role in the decision to not push forward. As large corporations only speak money… the cost benefit made at Sony must have missed some things to have it now skew the other way.

I’ll believe the account requirement will be totally in the past IF the sales to the non PSN countries are reinstated. Cause why limit your customers to countries if that is not necessary.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

They should manage the organization and stay the fuck away from the product.

Only really mature product owners that understand what they are doing and LOVE the product they are making should be allowed near your product… and they will work with devs to make something wonderful.

Satisfactory, Valheim, manor lords, enshrouded… just a few examples of product that is loved. And it shows.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Nope, most of their Custer base are like heroin addicts. Even if its stepped on and cut with ground up to light, they will still buy it. So why bother.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

store.steampowered.com/app/…/Road_to_Vostok/.

Wow, Looks impressive. I’m not for this type of early testing, but I hope he gets enough feedback to make the gameplay fun and interesting.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Its fun! Running, explosions, bugs to squash…

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Agreed. The swamp is a steep cliff but it works once geared. But mystland is just vile. I do not understand how they thought that would be a fun addition.

The must, okay… but combined with the vertical terrain is stupid. For us it also killed the desire to keep playing.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

The game played fun and I liked it. But once at end game it’s: premade teams, yelling on comms and people that take the game very serious, combined with many features and challenges being time limited. Pushing a “must play” mentality, playing on FOMO.

At one point we where in a game, people yelling cause it was the last day to unlock some weapon. And I realized… why the fuck am I doing this… this ain’t fun. Finished the round with the guys, got the unlock. Uninstalled the game and have not missed it since.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Sure… but the combat is an issue too. When on uneven terrain, it’s a gamble if your attacks hit, and if you get hit. I actually do like the infested mines and the other locations.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Tried enshrouded yet? Might be a good option for the next round with your mates. I also enjoyed smalland with my friends.

Badeendje,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Yep, I get that. The poorly functioning building, pathfinding issues for pals in base and the lack of endgame makes it that we parked it for now and will circle back when the devs had time to figure out their next moves, and if they don’t end up escaping to some tropical island with their earnings it will be fun in a year.
