They’re not really for me, as I find it difficult to relax while playing them, but I’m glad they exist.
Gaming had a real identity crisis around the 2000s, when every other game was a brown military shooter.
Now we’ve got cute games and cozy games and artsy games, and I feel like that opens up the genre to more people and enriches the whole medium.
Cozy games are more difficult to make, though, because the gameplay is not anymore just “point cursor at screen and click in the right moment”. So, yeah, you will get some worse examples, especially as the genre is still figuring itself out.
Ultimately, these cozy games are so often Indies with a limited scope and budget. The fact that this sort of genre has found the following is a good thing for gaming and Indie devs.
Of course once we reach market saturation and people are fed up with them, they won’t sell as well and new twists on the genre will have to be developed in order to stand out. This is a good thing for gaming and indie devs again.
There is a steam group called “Wholesome Games” that lists cozy games. They also do nintendo direct style twitch streams. There is a ton of amazing cozy games. Of course there are some not so great ones. But the video seemed to focus only on stardew valley clones. Even though there are so many unique ones out there.
These trailers have started to blend together for me, and I think that’s the issue. They might have a “nice vibe”, but that alone isn’t enough. What makes your game unique and fun to play? Sell me on that!
Hmm I guess “cozy” games are a genre, but I kinda felt like they are games that make you feel cozy, fun without the stress. If a game sucks then I don’t know I’d consider it “cozy”.
It’s an excellent game, was a lot of peoples first From Software game, and unlike the majority of big titles from that time period, hasn’t been ported, updated or remastered.
Additionally, out of all the “Souls” games, Bloodborne is still the only one that can’t be played at over 30fps.
I think it was my first FS game too, and I played a decent amount of hours on it on the PS4, but I just thought there were newer an better FS games since then that would fill that desire. It didn’t seem to me that Bloodborne was that special. And it’s not like FS had just been sitting still doing nothing since then.
I think bloodborne holds a lot of reverence because of the themes it portrays. Besides Sekiro, which also has a cult following, all the other Souls games are based in and around medieval fantasy of some sort.
Bloodborne starts in Victorian England with a Van Helsing story and the descends into Lovecraft really fast. For a lot of people, myself included, that’s inherently a more interesting setting than medieval fantasy. People who are into victorian England are really passionate about it, and people who are into Lovecraft are really into Lovecraft.
Quick non spoiler: Faster paced than souls and the theme style as perfectly executed. Horror elements blended really well as the game progesses over places you’ve been before. A key nonspoiler difference is the addittude toward boss fights. Souls end with victory achieved and Bloodbourne ends with prey slaughtered with major bossed getting and a spoiler text.
Do I think it’s unnecessary for this to get a remaster? Yes. However I’m still looking forward to it. It looks good; the fixed mocap and haptic controls alone will make it worth the £10 upgrade for me.
Oh and they fixed the weird looking kid Aloy. I’d have paid £15 for that, so £10 is a deal.
Yeah this looked dope. I legit thought this was death stranding 2 at first. Until they started swinging a weapon lol. Definitely keeping my eye on this one
The subtitles indicate the object at the end of the hallway is a painting. Maybe related to Rudolf Lane? The jumpscare images appear to be new characters. Just happy we’re getting more of Estevez and our friends at the FBC
