Suggestions? Games that won't make me feel alone? angielski

I need some suggestions on what to play. Single Player games only. Most of the games make me feel lonely and alone. In most of the games, the protagonist has to deal with the problems on their own, like Control, Crysis, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War (I liked the original 6 more than the new ones, even though the new ones had...

Since OP likes open world games, in the later Bethesda RPGs like Skyrim and Fallout 4 you can have companions. not the same level of interaction as Bioware-like parties, but it’s something.

also not really an open world game, but in Midnight Suns you’re a mystical hero in a party with some of the avengers, other marvel heroes, and even some villains. there’s a lot of personal interactions with all the members between missions.

hey now, war is supposed to be fun, not disturbing.

Currently downloading The Witcher 3 for the first time. Got any advice for me? (lemmy.world) angielski

So I just read this book on history of games called “Blood, Sweat and Pixels” and was fascinated by the chapter on The Witcher 3 and mostly how the team put in so much thought and care in every single side quest. And seems that there are a lot of moral decision to be made on each adventure. So I finally decided to give it a...

Starfield's first DLC is one of the worst Bethesda DLCs of all time angielski

Starfield steam page for the DLC currently shows eight user review score of 41%, making this one of the worst Bethesda DLC’s released of all time. This is so horribly, shockingly bad for Bethesda, because it shows as a gaming company, they are no longer capable of delivering a really good gaming experience as they had in the...

Cyberpunk was buggy, unoptimized, and kind of unfinished, but the fundamental game design was sound.

Starfield on the other hand is broken at its core. The Bethesda RPG experience just does not translate to the open worlds space map they built the game on. So they can’t take the cyberpunk approach because they’d have to build an entirely different game from scratch.

acosmichippo,
@acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

even without the loading screens it would still be terrible. get a quest, go to your ship, take off, travel to other system, land, exit your ship, walk to destination, reverse all that to turn the quest in, rinse and repeat. it’s just a tedious experience.

the best part of Bethesda games is just being able to wander around aimlessly in a pretty environment, likely stumbling upon little easter eggs or side quests along the way. none of that exists in Starfield.

PS5 Homescreen Now Replaces Unique Video Game Art With Annoying Ads You Can’t Turn Off (www.ign.com) angielski

Wow, this is awful. Some people reported that these ads are also very petty and not necessarily related to the game, like apparently Elden Ring shows an ad for a licensed mousepad when you hover over the game now…...

Sony’s Concord reportedly cost $400M to develop | VGC (www.videogameschronicle.com) angielski

$200M before the Sony acquisition and $200M after. It’s a little hard to believe. The story seems to only be coming from Colin Moriarty right now, but I trust Jordan Middler to consider it at least reasonably plausible if he wrote it up for VGC....

acosmichippo,
@acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

might as well release it and see what happens.

acosmichippo,
@acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

I wouldn’t even say it’s half finished, it’s just a fundamentally flawed game design. I too am a huge Bethesda fan but their implementation of an open “worlds” space RPG is just awful and there’s nothing that can be done to fix it without making a whole new game.

    Epic is anti-consumer and also anti-Linux, they don’t make any effort to support other platforms, the app is shit.

    Also to add context, Tencent (Chinese tech conglomerate) owns 35% of Epic and helped them pivot to GaaS and aggressively push into the game store market.

    exactly, and also saying our houses use more energy than crypto as a justification is just relative privation. yes our houses use energy because we need to survive. that doesn’t mean we should just give a blank energy check to whatever inefficient new technology comes along.

    acosmichippo, (edited )
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    The whole point of cryptocurrency is decentralized ownership. That’s the big breakthrough in technology, it’s the whole point of it, I can try to ELI5 how that works if you want to, but for the moment I’m just going to assume you accept that cryptocurrency can demonstrate ownership.

    How does ownership of those tokens transfers to ownership of something else? Well, that’s an excellent question, and the answer is that it happens in the same way that a piece of paper grants ownership of a house. There’s no innovative technology behind that piece of paper, but still everyone would agree that it grants ownership, and the reason is that the authority that enforces that chose to respect that piece of paper.

    So NFTs are not inherently proof of ownership as the person above said. The general concept of owning crypto (which no one is questioning here) is a very different topic than using NFTs as proof of ownership of literally anything else.

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    but, why? is there some problem with the way we prove ownership of things now? as far as i know there isn’t an epidemic of car titles or house deeds getting hacked.

    acosmichippo,

    100% agreed with everything you’ve said here.

    game consoles won’t be “smartphones” until there’s way better backwards/forwards game compatibility.

    acosmichippo, (edited )
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    better practical compatibility for sure. Of course not literally the entire back catalog of old legacy smartphone apps are still supported but probably like 99.999% of apps people still use are supported on 99.999% of phones people use. 32-bit app devs have had 10 years to update to 64 bit, and most managed it within the first couple. Also the kind of major compatibility jump as with 32bit>64bit should be fairly infrequent, not like every console hardware generation.

    compare that to game consoles where the last gen could be cut off from new games at any given time, and next gen is a crapshoot whether the manufacturer will support backwards compatibility.

    Is Elder Scrolls 6 doomed to fail? I can't see how it will work angielski

    After the massive blunder of Starfield, I cannot see how Elder scrolls 6 could possibly be successful. Everything points to the fact that they knew that the game was not even half finished, in my opinion, with major glaring issues, and they decided to just send it off anyway. The difference between this game and Oblivion is that...

    the thing with Starfield and F76 is that all of their major problems won’t exist in ES6 simply due to the format differences. I’m confident they’ll churn out another ES game roughly on par with the last few.

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    exactly, I’m a huge ES fan who hated Starfield, but it is not causing me any grief over ES6. Almost all of the Starfield issues I had were due to the vastly different world(s) structure.

    i miss the black and white buttons from the mini xbox controller days. still feel like 4 buttons is not enough on the right pad, especially considering how often games use L3/R3 joystick click which i fucking loathe.

    isn’t the steam deck much closer to a console than a PC?

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    I think it’s a bit shortsighted to assume gaming will have no use for significantly more powerful hardware in the future. even if not for graphics or VR, it could be greater use of AI, or something else we could never foresee.

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    sure, it’s a spectrum. but to me the biggest defining feature of a console is being a self-contained wad of hardware, unable to be upgraded or repaired piece by piece.

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    It’s okay but you’re going a little far comparing it to RDR2.

    acosmichippo,

    I liked Andromeda the game more than most but I really didn’t like Andromeda the galaxy as a setting. I’d prefer to go back to the milky way with the species from the original games. Maybe set in the future after a major political upheaval or something.

    the only issue I have with that is it would be a step backwards in alien varieties, especially in your party. For me one of the best parts of ME was the feeling of being part of a galactic community, walking around the citadel with a bunch of different aliens, etc.

    It genuinely upsets me that Valve spent their time and resources on another Dota variation angielski

    Like for many other people, Valve single player experiences were one of my favorite of all time growing up. I considered both Half-Life and Portal to be masterpieces. It’s true they’ve always been distracted with multiplayer games as well, things like Counter-Strike or Team Fortress and I did play them for sure, because I...

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    but they do have all the money in the world, no external pressure, no publisher to shit on them, it’s just their developers and artists and a vision.

    I think that’s part of the issue. Supposedly they do have multiple games in development and a large percentage of their employees are working on them. But they are content to let the creative and technical processes play out, without announcing too-ambitious release dates which inevitably get pushed back and still have a buggy game released. And sometimes they even cut their losses if a long term project just isn’t working out.

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    PS5 certainly has better exclusives than xbox.

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    I generally agree, but it should still be trivially easy to ship the game with at least two options, as most ps5 games do. one high fidelity at 30fps and one high performance at ~60fps.

    funny how no one even mentioned World of Warcraft for MMOs because it’s too obvious.

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    the question was “popularized” not “invented”.

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    sure, we can quibble on the threshold of “popular” here. but you can’t question that WOW caused an absolute explosion in MMOs after it. not like anything before.

    combat is changing to real time, so it’s going to be more like god of war.

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    they should just have a sorting option as on Lemmy/reddit. let people choose to sort by helpful, humorous, controversial, etc. at set a default of their own preference.

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    well the difference with steam is they don’t have upvotes and downvotes, they have “helpful” and “funny”. sure some people don’t use them properly, but it’s something. Maybe it would help Lemmy and reddit to bring in a funny vote too if you’re just looking for some laughs.

    acosmichippo,
    @acosmichippo@lemmy.world avatar

    yeah I don’t really see either of those options as problematic. quite common to explain away powers in RPG sequels, and CDPR might very well want to go in a different gampleay direction than Witcher combat.
