Hello, in the recent years I find myself willing to spend much less time and energy on games, but I do still enjoy them. Oftentimes I end up quitting a new game I tried out relatively early on, because I’m encountering some block, grind, non-optional boring side quest, empty open world, uninteresting clutter or details that I...
i don’t think it’s a spoiler to say this because you learn very early in the game - physically everything in the worlds goes back to square one after 22 minutes (or if you die).
you do get to keep a log of everything you learn about the worlds and story but that’s all that persists. the log is actually helpful, so follow that if you get lost.
slight spoiler:
Tap for spoileralso the 22 minute reset is not an arbitrary design choice, it’s part of the story and puzzle.
same. the trick is to float by doing literally nothing as slow as possible. it takes some trial and error to figure out when you can maneuver again but you do have to be a little patient.
i think you are misunderstanding the point of the no preorder movement. There never should have been an expectation for it to improve the Day 1 quality of game releases.
The main benefit of not preordering is consumer protection, so we can judge a game’s quality after people who we trust have played and review it. That protection is worth more than whatever paltry nonsense publishers bundle with preorders.
I get that Steam is where everything and everyone is at. And that the user experience and functionality is best there BUT having another player to try an compete with Steam is a good thing, right?...
you can’t use straight 1:1 inflation to infer what the contemporary cost should be of digital products like video games, movies, tv shows, music etc. There is no physical asset to tie the individual product value to. There are of course production costs, but those are the same whether you make 50 copies or 50 million.
The reason inflation hasn’t hit video game prices is because the video game market has grown exponentially since the 90s. They make more money by selling low margin at higher volume, compared to high margin and low volume. It’s all about maximizing that total profit, not individual sales.
Publishers can try to charge more, but it’ll be up to consumers if that actually gets them any more money overall. only time will tell.
I got back to Oblivion’s Remaster today and did the entire Dark Brotherhood quest. Or at least i thought i did. I know there’s great love for Oblivion (I never played it when it was new), and of course Skyrim is the gold standard for new fans (I played the shit out of that and it was my first entry into the elder scrolls back when it came out 14 years ago…) but I really feel like this shadow drop of a half assed remake is just priming...
which is exactly why they called it a remaster. it was never their intention to remake the game.
Personally I think most of the stuff that went wrong with Starfield were design choices related to space travel and many many planets, which won’t be an issue with TES of Fallout going forward. So if they stay in their lane I don’t see any reason why they can’t keep churning out decent titles in those series, even if they maybe don’t reach the same heights.

i generally agree with the point you are making because Oblivion is my favorite TES game, but I just got done playing Avowed which is pretty good. defintiely not as deep as oblivion in many areas though.
I’m skeptical that there’s a filter like this over the whole game. If you look at the all of the leaked screenshots together none of the others are anywhere close to this dreary to my eye. Although some of the other images have different issues like extreme darkness/low gamma which makes me think some of them were never intended for the public. They have also since been pulled from the site (supposedly this was the original location). Maybe it was a look they were testing at some point and then scrapped, who knows.
