Some racing games, and in particular the third-party app Crew Chief, allow the player to either set a name or choose an addressing like ‘dude’. I don’t like using a personal name, so my racing engineer says stuff like “an incident in turn five, mate”.
Sweet! My closed headphones isolate even the sound of the doorbell, so people kind of need to text me if they plan to visit while I’m gaming xD
Which model/maker of the 3080 do you have? I have the Asus TUF Gaming OC version and while it sounds like an inspired fan, it’s not quite a jet engine… But then again, I only game at 1080p (but with ultra settings) because with my 24 inch monitor I kind of have a good pixel density anyway ^^
It’s an unlikely scenario, but if you have a doorbell that can be “connected” to, like ring or aqara you could set a light (hue, inner, generic ZigBee etc) to flash when the doorbell rings. I had a rube Goldberg setup for the time before I discovered open back monitors 😀
I’ll be real, I don’t know the manufacturer because it was a second hand pre built. An old hp omen that I replaced mobo and CPU (and somehow I didn’t take note… getting lazy on my old age)
I do roll 1440p and whatever settings get me 120 FPS. Nothing competitive
I would love to play this game, but the lack of a FOV option makes it entirely unplayable. I tried several times and within minutes I’m at the point of almost throwing up. I’ve never encountered another game with a FOV this bad, it’s pathetic!
I got the OLED Deck this year to replace my Switch, and the first thing I noticed was that my hands are not quite big enough. I can’t reach the Y button with my thumb quickly, and I cannot comfortably put my index and middle fingers on the bumper and trigger buttons. I ended up mapping the bumpers to the back buttons and got used to pressing trigger with my index finger, but it took a while to get over my muscle memory.
I’ll tell you, the original game is just okay. It’s kind of fun, but it never really drew me in… The big wildcard here is the mod scene. Mods like Frackin’ Universe (which we are running) turn a game that holds most people’s attention for a few hours into a game that’s highly addictive, which tends to span for months on end.
Our last season was expected to run for a few weeks (that’s how long we lasted with the non-modded server). Instead, it ran something like 4-5 months. And most of us put hundreds of hours into it.
So, if you check it out, be sure to check out mods like Frackin’ Universe along with the core game. I don’t think it’s inaccurate to say that Frackin alone adds many times more content than the original game serves up.
It’s the perfect game for Lemmy in that respect. It’s all about free contributions (mods) from the community. They basically saw potential in a base game, and decided to create hundreds of hours of content for the entire community to enjoy. Very inspiring stuff in a somewhat darkening time in human history.
Oh, and the game is only $5-6 if you get a cd key! Be careful when using these services, but I’ve yet to be ripped off after buying dozens of games this way.
Fair enough! I put the cdkey information out there for those that can’t afford the full $15 price tag. It’s been a hard year for a lot of people, so I always try to be sensitive to that. I think I paid $10 back in the beta myself.
weren’t chucklefish the ones that strangled this game in the first place?
now take thus with a big chunk of salt, I do not remember at all if this is any true but feel like I read it somewhere
Any game with a free cam should have the option to turn off 3d fly. Trying to perfectly position a camera while having to constantly turn in order to not go up or down while trying to slightly reposition has got to be one of the most annoying things.
in general: settings which have multiple levels, display it as a slider so I can visually see which ones are actually maxed out and which arent. It’s insanity when most settings have off/low/med/high/higher and randomly some of them have additional levels like epic/ultra/psycho/gigaultrapseudobullshit. You have to go each and everyone through to figure out which have higher settings. Now, this is not a flex, my system can’t run new games on gigaultrapseudobullshitultra++, but older ones? sure.
for fps & tps games: FOV.
otherwise, in no particular order, option to toggle off entirely:
motion blur
chromatic aberration
otherwise, must haves:
subtitles on/off
master volume/music/sfx/dialogue as separate sliders.
don’t default volume to max, this is instant ear explosion if you happen to use different audio devices
